I understand that. I can't help but join in challenges.

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5684 comments You have some good Fantasy picks there Faith.

I loved The Martian by Andy Weir , great humour along with the science.

I also loved Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) by Robin Hobb . Must get back to finishing that series and other books by Hobb.

I have Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas but haven't gotten around to it yet.

message 54: by Leana (new)

Leana (Flickering Fandom) (flickeringfandom) | 264 comments Thanks Danielle :) That's exactly how I felt about The Martian, loved that there was some actual science not just "Mars is far away" etc.

I'm a huge Hobb fangirl so possibly a little biased in saying you should definitely finish them ;) My other half didn't get on with them at all though, even though we have other shared loves (Game of Thrones, The Martian, Harry Potter etc) so they're definitely not for everyone.

Throne of Glass is definitely a lighter read, but Maas has great world building and some truly kickass female characters, so it's well worth a go - so far I've loved each new book more than the last!

This will be my first Tower Teams and my very first team challenge. I was worried about joining in case I didn't read enough etc. but i just loved the idea (goals, teams etc.) and i'm really impatient to start !

message 56: by Leana (new)

Leana (Flickering Fandom) (flickeringfandom) | 264 comments I know exactly what you mean about being impatient to start Sarah-Jane - I'm close to finishing my current read and in the back of my head I'm thinking about what to read next and thinking "mustn't start anything so long it won't be finished before November 7th"!

I wouldn't worry too much about not reading enough, the teams are supposed to be roughly balanced out to make sure everyone gets to enjoy it!

message 57: by Sarah-jane (new)

Sarah-jane | 144 comments When I am on goodreads or simply reading, all i can think about is the 7th of november :) ! Can't wait for it to start and then I guess we'll all be pretty disappointed when it's over ... :/

Are you guys planning on reading anything in particular ?

message 58: by Leana (new)

Leana (Flickering Fandom) (flickeringfandom) | 264 comments I haven't really decided yet!

Armada by Ernest Cline Snow Like Ashes (Snow Like Ashes, #1) by Sara Raasch & Personal Demon (Women of the Otherworld, #8) by Kelley Armstrong are all possibles, but I'm a huge mood reader so I'm not very good at planning!

I do know I'll probably want to read Chimera (Parasitology, #3) by Mira Grant and that's not out until the end of November so that'll probably count towards the challenge.

You?

Good to know about Throne of Glass and I will definitely get back finished the Hobb series.

My first team challenge was the first Wheel-A-Thon a couple of years ago and it was tons of fun. They definitely become addicting.

7 November will soon be here now.

I'm not much of a planner of what I decide to read, I'm always changing my mind. How about you?

message 62: by Sarah-jane (new)

Sarah-jane | 144 comments I won't be planning anything. I have my "To read" shelf but i guess it just depends on what i land on really :). I tend to say "Ooooh i'll be reading that next" and then read something completely different !

I like reading books that are out of my normal reading genre from time to time. To mix things up a little. But, recently i have only been disappointed by my choices ... Don't know whether i am just really bad at choosing or if i am just a difficult reader.

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Hi Donna and Faith! Nice to meet both of you.

I love planning what to read. In fact sometimes I spend too much time planning and not enough time actually reading. ;) However I'm not so good at actually following the plans and I generally just read what I want to anyway. I'm currently doing the Seasonal Reading Challenge - so I have a bunch of books to finish for that and I'm doing another individual challenge where I have to read books in order, so I will probably just be fitting those books into our challenges here.

November 7th is so far away, who knows what I'll be at by then. :D

The book I read today was by a new author who seems to suffer from Stephen King disease. I'm zipping along, enjoying the book and it seems like suddenly she was tired of writing and just stopped, without an actual ending. So annoying!

message 64: by Tara (new)

Tara | 225 comments I'm not a planner ..,every time I plan out my reading I fail miserably. I do much better just picking things as I go.

message 65: by Leana (new)

Leana (Flickering Fandom) (flickeringfandom) | 264 comments Allison I'm so guilty of the over-planning not time for reading thing too! I've been trying out monthly reading lists this year which has sort of worked - it's short term enough that I usually still fancy whatever I've planned out by the time I get to it! (Usually, this month I've been a bit hopeless at it though)

message 66: by Ariane (new)

Ariane I have done the 2015 Popsugar reading challenge, I have been planning the whole year, so now that it is over (well... I still have one to read...) I feel... free but oddly a bit lost :)
So I don't think I will be planning anything from now on.
At the same time, I participate in other challenges so we'll see...
Also, I have borrowed these La Mort en tête by Sire Cédric City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare from the Library and I don't think I will finish them by November 7th.

message 67: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I think that is the beauty of this challenge, no planning necessary - just read. Of course the new goals will change things a bit, but still - just read. :D

Our clocks haven't moved here yet, not until this upcoming weekend. But I always hate the time change. Especially now with children it's even tougher...

We didn't do much this weekend, just hung out with the kids at the house. Seems to be the story of my life these days :)

We're all so challenge crazy ... adding goals is just one more challenge, right?! Ha!

message 71: by Sarah-jane (new)

Sarah-jane | 144 comments I have a question about these very intriguing goals. Say I have read 10 books, how will I know if one of them corresponds to a goal, say a goal concerning Listopia ? Do we have to look them up ourselves then inform the team captain ?

message 72: by Tara (new)

Tara | 225 comments Sarah-jane wrote: "I have a question about these very intriguing goals. Say I have read 10 books, how will I know if one of them corresponds to a goal, say a goal concerning Listopia ? Do we have to look them up ours..."

Obviously I can't answer this officially but I would assume we would need to "declare" something would fit a certain goal and then it would be up to the captain/co-captain to verify before it was placed on the spreadsheet.

message 73: by Sarah-jane (new)

Sarah-jane | 144 comments And do you know if we have to tell the captain everytime we finish a book ? Or is putting it on the right shelf enough ? :)

message 74: by Tara (new)

Tara | 225 comments That one I can't answer. I figured I would just pop in here and post that I had finished and added a book to my shelf, but I don't know if that's a requirement.

message 75: by Sarah-jane (new)

Sarah-jane | 144 comments Suppose we'll be doing that anyway :)

Post the book you've finished here, as well adding to shelf.

It's helpful to post here when finished with a book -
book title
Date finished
No. Of pages

That's correct. And expect by the end of TT to have added a ton of books to your TBR.

If you have a book that you have already read during TT or are going to read that fits a goal, then you can comment claiming that goal. A book can only be used once and only one person will claim a particular goal.

Ariane So from November 7th, you will add every book you read to your TT shelf, just in case it fits a goal?

message 83: by Sarah-jane (new)

Sarah-jane | 144 comments No, i think you need to add them anyway so the team captain knows what you've read :)

You will need to add every book you read for TT onto the shelf you created for this challenge. The books on your shelf will be added to our team spreadsheet for easy tracking.

LaLine | 411 comments Hi all,

I'm LaLine. I live in the cold, northern reaches of Utah in the USofA. I only recently stumbled across this group and thought it looked like fun, but all the challenges! So intriguing! Could not figure out which one to try, so I asked if I could join this one to start. Looked relatively tame and less brain-cell intensive than some of the others for my first go. Very much looking forward to it.

1) FAVOURITE GENRES: I'll read just about anything except for...

2) LEAST FAVOURITE GENRES: horror. Not hugely fond of romance unless there is a great plot. Not really into non-fiction unless there is something in particular I'm trying to learn. But I'm open to anything if you can make a case for it.

3) TOP 5 FAVOURITE BOOKS: The Little Prince, Anne of Green Gables, and Bridge to Terabithia have all carried over from my childhood. Mrs. Mike was my favorite when I was in college. Nowadays, I'd have to say, oh geez...this 5 book limit is painful. I'll go with The Icarus Hunt.

4) FAVOURITE AUTHOR: Timothy Zahn, Brandon Sanderson, Michael J. Sullivan, Robin McKinley, Elizabeth Peters...if you say them really fast it counts as one, right?

5) ANY PETS: Nope. Had a betta fish but he died a couple weeks ago. I'm not good with animals. And if you dare move into the tiny little house next door with 2 goats, a dozen chickens, a rooster, 3 dogs, 6 rabbits, and 7 incredibly loud and disrespectful children - we will not be friends. Just sayin'.

6) FAVOURITE COLOUR: Depends on the day, but I mostly lean towards blues. Or greens, purples...sometimes oranges.

7) FAVOURITE ICE CREAM FLAVOUR: I don't like ice cream. But give me a cookie and we'll be friends for life. Homemade ones. Pineapple coconut like my grandma used to make, or anything else crispy and milk-dunking worthy.

For TOWER TEAMS we're making The Child Thief by Brom (November's Adult Sci-Fi/Fantasy BOM) an exception.

Meaning, we are granting the page points, participating in discussion points, and DQ's points, as long as you finish the book after the starting date
