Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion

Hey All! Wanting to check in. Ready to start entering books for this challenge! I just finished one book (fangirl) and deciding what to start next. How's everyone else?

I've been a reader my whole entire life too, I always had a book near me. My mum always said I would be a librarian. Guess what? I'm a librarian :)

I have a few books to finish before we start; I'm not sure I'll be able to finish them by Saturday but I'll be close.

I have a few chunky books that could be of use, like the All Souls trilogy, but I don't know what I'll read first.

Yeah... same for me.It's an interesting story really, because my parents wouldn't let me to learn to read at young age (I had known the alphabet since age 2 so...). They hadn't wanted it, because I would have been bored in school, so they had been reading for me. I learned reading at school, but 2 or 3 months earlier than the others. :) We has in our language double letters like "ny" or "ty" and I ran back and forth between my grandma and my room asking: 'Granny, what is this letter?'. XD I needed more than an hour to read one page. I must have been annoying, 'cause when I didn't read I demanded to somebody read something for me. My poor granny at the end of the day couldn't even speak, so when my father arrived home he would took over her, and at night my mother read a little bit of Harry Potter for me...

I don't know what I am going to read but I have several ideas.

Your parents must have been so proud rather than finding you annoying ! And it's better that than being glued to a screen all day long if you ask me ...

I do have some long fantasy books I've been meaning to read for a while, so maybe during TT I'll get them read, but I've nothing planned as I don't know what I'll read until I open my kindle and pick.

Kenéz - just out of curiosity, what languages do you speak/read? I lived in Hungary for about 16 months ages ago. I have a few books in Hungarian, but they are hard to come by here. And I am a slow reader in Hungarian - I have to read it out loud in order to comprehend it. I should practice more.

Cute story Kenéz (just remembered copy/paste exists, no need to learn accents, hooray). Apparently I knew how to read when I started kindergarten at age 4. I have no memories from that time but my mum says that I was reading Little Golden Books to my little brothers at bedtime. Still reading at bedtime. :)

I have two big fat books that I'm saving for the points, but otherwise I'll just keep reading my SRC books until I run out of those. Don't know if I'll do winter SRC too or just read what I want in December.

Looking forward to getting started. The competition starts at 1 p.m. Saturday, local time, so I'll be at work - have to remember to take a new book and not start early. :)

LaLine I'm hungarian, but I live in Romania so I've been learning English and Romanian since 1st grade. And I started to learn German in 9th grade… but I am not very good.

It's so close! I was hoping to get A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms finished before we start but haven't quite managed it :( I'm away at a wedding for the weekend so probably won't get much reading in until Sunday night but I'm still excited for things to start!

I asked her for it a few days ago, she isn't around.

I read a bunch of short books today to make sure I could finish them. I have one left for bedtime and morning and then I'll be starting fresh at 1 p.m. The beginning of a new challenge is always so exciting.

I won't be home from work to report until almost 8 p.m. my time (exactly 24 hours from now) but I should have a book or two to count by then. I'm going to save my first long book for Sunday.

It seems like our captain may have disappeared. Danielle is online a lot and willing to take over as captain. I'm online barely at all but able to check on books, shelves and goals. We will be awesome! So team Raven, are we ready to read?

I'll be ready tomorrow afternoon. Yay! Glad it's finally time to start. Waiting was getting a little old. ;)

It' already Saturday here, and I still have to wait don't know how many hours. :/

Conveniently, the book i was planning to read first fits right into a goal too (read a book first published in May).

Four hours to go. I've put our list of goals on the first page of the thread. I'll update it morning and evening and the spreadsheet updates automatically. If you "call" a goal I'll mark it there too, but if we can fill a goal more quickly with someone else's book, I hope no one gets offended. We will go through many many goals, so everyone will be able to participate.

The books I am planning on reading today don't fit any of the open goals, but I've been reading a lot of romance and chick lit lately to finish up SRC and I need some straight up adventure to cleanse my palate. So if we need a plane crash any time soon, I'm our girl. :) I'm pretty sure I have something with a cemetary on the cover too, I'll try and find that tonight.

I think I found one where a character goes to a casino. Vegas Moon by John Locke. I've downloaded the audio version from my library and will start it tonight.

How often do we get goals? I'm just trying to line up a couple books at a time, but I don't want to get too far ahead if we have to meet goals often.

Posted my first finished book and actually made the spreadsheet update. Yay!

There are 5 open goals at a time, so when one is completed we'll get a new one.

I have this book with a cemetary on the front . I'm finishing another book tonight but I can probably get to it tomorrow.

I'm heading to bed, 5 a.m. comes early. :D Hope everyone had a successful first day of reading. I'll be finishing up Zero Separation tonight for my second book. What is everyone else reading?

Totally!

I wouldn't worry to much trying to always read goal books. Read what you want, if you happen to be reading a book to fit a goal, okay. But it's not a problem not to.

Remember that any book you read over TT is open to cover a goal. So say we have a goal next month and a book you read this month works for it. Just say what book it is.

I read about 160 pages in my book yesterday. But now I'm getting ready to go to st louis today for a zoo trip and tomorrow my son has a GI doctor appt, so my reading time today and tomorrow will be a little limited. What I'm reading now doesn't fit a current open goal. Hopefully everyone is having fun reading! I'll check back in sometime tomorrow.
