Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion

Had a good reading day, the only good thing about not much internet - no distractions. I've also started reading Bound, the Back Room BOM.

Just FYI: I'm still reading the book with the ship on the cover, but it might take me a while. Life turned upside down and I won't get much reading done this week. Next week I'll have forced downtime, so hopefully I'll be able to make up for it then.

Good afternoon! What is everyone reading? Anything good?

I'm reading and

Every two week each team get a boon which can be use to remove a goal. They don't accumulate so as the end of the second week is coming up, we either use it soon or loose it.

I am currently reading . It's out of my usual genre but I am really bad at choosing my next books at the moment ... so, I went on a book hunt around the house and found this lying about ha ha ! Must be mum's !

We might as well use the boon then. On a goal we've had for a while maybe.

I've started (borrowed from my little sister) and , enjoying both so far. Couldn't decide what I fancied so I decided I'd pick up something light and fun!

I agree about the boon, it seems sense to use it. Maybe on the "book shelved as 2001" - it seems like the hardest of the goals we've got at the moment? (Although I'm a little confused about the X on the cover one - would a book with an X in the title count?)

Finished and recorded my second book. The Alpine Advocate by Mary Daheim. I'm not generally into cozy mysteries, but this one really caught my eye for some reason, plus it fit a few other challenges that I am participating in as well. I'd recommend it and I'll probably be on the lookout to continue this series.

My reading has been hit or miss because work has been crazy. I work at a concrete plant and this is the time when everyone is in a mad dash trying to get their work completed before the weather turns too cold to pour concrete. It's been unseasonably warm here so far. This time last year we had our first snow - yesterday it was 70 degrees! You never know what you're going to get in Southern Illinois weather-wise - I always say if you don't like today's weather, just wait until tomorrow because there's likely to be a 40 degree difference, it's nuts!

I don't think a X in the title counts, it's needs to be on the cover

It's beginning to get colder here now (South Wales), but until now its been a pretty mild autumn.

I suppose the covers of other editions don't count ?

No, it's the edition you read.

I guess what I'm saying is that something like or clearly have an x on the cover, but so too do , and : the first two are clearly cover art and the others are (part of) the title, but all five technically have an X on the cover, if you see what I mean.

I have this one that I think would work, but I really have to read a few other books first.

I found a 2001 book also but unless I decide to give up on SRC then it has to wait about a week too.

Interconnecting families - I got nothing.

What sort of situation would it have to be for "interconnecting families" ?

Interconnecting Families: to become mutually connected. So it's more towards when two people marry and the families interconnect. So I'd lean towards in-law situations.

Chick lit or romance probably, maybe blended family situations?

I *just* finished . I will be off to add to the books read post momentarily. This book fulfills an open challenge, except you have Ariane's name at the beginning of the challenge, yet it isn't crossed off. This challenge:

Read a book that your co-captain or captain has read which is on your "to read" shelf (go to the person's profile -->compare books)

This book is found on Co-captain Elayna's read shelf. Should I mark it as a done challenge or leave it open?

Although Elayna hasn't participated at all thus far, her name is still marked as co-captain so I think it should count as you read it in good faith. What do you think Danielle?

I didn't know Elayna wasn't participating. Sorry. I went to the captain/co-captain list and did compare books and found it on her shelf.

We always go with whoever has finished a book to fit a goal first. So I think it's fine to go with this book.

That's fine, she said she was but hasn't checked in at all, so no worries you didn't know.

I see what you mean Sarah-jane. I'm not sure if they are far enough in the book yet to see all the connections, but I can certainly ask.

Pretty Girls was approved for interconnected families.

Our new goal -- Read a book shelved (listed on the first page of the "top shelves" of the book) as women - plurals and minor spelling variations are acceptable.

I checked all the goalless books that I thought might work. They didn't. :) Any ideas?

It's been snowing sideways for about 21 hours - absolutely miserable but I got a lot of reading in. My day of housework was shot to hell though. ;)

I finished yesterday, just about to add it to the books read thread :) Sorry (not really!) about the lack of housework Allison ;)

So we have until Saturday to decide if we want to boon a goal. Any thoughts? LaLine is reading a ship. Sarah-jane is reading from the "women" shelf. Are you still going to read a horror novel too Sarah-jane? Or does anyone else have one that will work? I have a "2001' shelf and an X on the cover that I will get to on Sunday or Monday, but if somoene else beats me that is great. Or we can boon one of them to try and get some more goals accomplished before the new week starts.

I think we should boon one of the away. I have no books for the current goals, so just tell me which one you want to remove.


Edit: although I have no problem not using it this time as all go have a person able to read a book for them.

I think use a boon on one too - if Allison & Sarah-Jane are working on two each maybe it makes sense to get rid of one of those? Hopefully then one of us not currently working on a goal can work towards the new goal at the same time? (Or possibly we'll be able to tick it off straight away with books already read)
