~Australia Day Mini Challenge~![]()
This is an OPTIONAL mini-challenge for our Tower Teams which will run from Jan 1 to Jan 31, 2016
Australia Day is the official National Day of Australia. Celebrated annually on 26 January, it marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Port Jackson, New South Wales
How to Play
◈ Your team will be given a crossword puzzle with 6 facts about Australia.
◈ We have created three different puzzles with varying levels of letter difficulty for the teams at the top of the overall leader board, (puzzle A) middle (puzzle B)and lowest (puzzle C)
◈ Once you have the 6 answers, these become the words your team needs to “spell-it-out”
◈ For each word completed, you can choose a book read by your team in December to claim DOUBLE POINTS for (page points only, not goal points)
◈ A book can only be claimed for double points once. (i.e. you can't use the same book of 130 points to keep doubling)
◈ Each spell-it-out word can only be completed once for double points
◈ Books read AT ANY TIME during the challenge can count for the spell-it-out , but DO need to be separate books from those you claimed for goals.
◈ The usual book length rules apply, Books must be more than 100 pages in length and Children's books and Graphic Novels can not be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 25,000 words using arbookfind.com
◈ Spreadsheets will be updated for the Captains to update and track the teams points
Spell-it-out rules
Using the first letter in the book’s title, the first letter in the author’s first or last name, or the first letter of a character’s first, last, or nick-name, or the first letter in the audiobook narrators first or last name.. As always, if the first letter of a title starts with ‘A’, ‘An’, ‘The’, etc., you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word.

Do we want to assign all our goalless books we can to the appropriate letters or wait until later in the month and see where we are. We have no really awful letters although in the past I have had trouble getting O although here we can use character names which makes it easier.
A quick look at our unused books shows we can complete at least two of the words just from those.

Also, do we need to find the shared letters only once, or once for each word?

Sorry just woken up, lets do the as one, its a little harder to get that or so it seems. When is our deadline? I'm not at a computer yet.

I have a book where more than one character is a socialite, I'll get it started."
Awesome Ellie,
I've read the goal "Read a book with a computer on the cover" I read World of Shawn it has a laptop on the cover so that should count.
Sadly there is some sort of technical issue going on with the sheets, it hasn't updated for 4 hours and some other captains are complaining about it being down so hopefully its just google messing about with their sheet coding and it'l fix itself soon...

New goal
Read a book with a String instrument on the cover or in the title

One letter we really need for the spell it is Y
Megan and Abbie be careful when using unused books, I put some into the Spell out but they are not reading as used yet, it should be fixed tomorrow sometime.

are they not showing up because we haven't put a book read in December to claim for double points?

We can have another look at how many more letters we can fill in once that is working. Need to look what books to claim for, I know I read a few long ones last month.
Does anyone want to read the longest book on their TBR ? I will be reading mine but I have one more in the series to read first.

Stacey sorry you haven't got the book yet. I am debating catching up to Winter for the BOM. I am trying A Darker Shade of Magic again. I have got further than I did the last time. I need to get back to The Paper Swan
I will get to mine, I just try to fit my longer reads in with another challenge.

I am almost done with a book with a guitar on the cover.

New Goal
Read a book where someone tames/befriends an animal

We need 2 O books, title, author, character names or audio narrator
1 Y book
Not sure what else we are missing .

I'm going to start In Jack's Arms. There is a recurring character in this series named Yuri--hopefully he makes an appearance and speaks. :)

Trying to think of what books I have that fit the letters needed. I've got two I should finish tonight so hopefully that will help us.
Ahh I just thought She Smells the Dead has a main character called Yuki. The book is literally about her so that would work for the Y I guess I finished it this morning/last night
