Thanks Stacey unfortunately they both have been used . I have removed them from the list. I hope to get a chance to do a proper update tomorrow. Please point out anything we have missed it is a big help. Finding books on the listopias can be daunting.

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments New goal

Read a book shelved (listed on the first page of the "top shelves" of the book) as need - plurals and minor spelling variations are acceptable

message 1003: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments Uprooted has a need-to-buy to shelf. Does that work for the need goal?

message 1004: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments I was wondering that one myself and I have asked the mods. A few of the goalless books have need to buy but nothing has need on 1st page.

I looked at the books shelved Need the obvious one is Need a lot are shelved need but not many have it in first page.

Still looking for something starting As, never thought it would be so hard, so many books start with a person's name.

message 1005: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Need to buy was approved so I updated

New goal

Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Lovers" in the text or title

TheBookishFairy (Lauren) Apologies that I haven't been active recently, before Christmas things were manic at work and I have been away from home for the last couple of days and have only just been able to make it to a laptop to update everything.

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas (if they celebrate) and no one has been effected by the horrible weather either side of the pond. Luckily I don't live in a part of England that has been flooded.

I have finished A Christmas Carol and Other Christmas Writings for the Day Twenty two Read a book where someone ruins or saves Christmas for 10 points for the 25 days of Christmas goals and have also finished The Elite .

I will head over and add them to the Books Read page now. Hope everyone is enjoying what they are reading. : )

~Australia Day Mini Challenge~

This is an OPTIONAL mini-challenge for our Tower Teams which will run from Jan 1 to Jan 31, 2016

Australia Day is the official National Day of Australia. Celebrated annually on 26 January, it marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Port Jackson, New South Wales

How to Play
◈ Your team will be given a crossword puzzle with 6 facts about Australia.
◈ We have created three different puzzles with varying levels of letter difficulty for the teams at the top of the overall leader board, (puzzle A) middle (puzzle B)and lowest (puzzle C)
◈ Once you have the 6 answers, these become the words your team needs to “spell-it-out”
◈ For each word completed, you can choose a book read by your team in December to claim DOUBLE POINTS for (page points only, not goal points)
◈ A book can only be claimed for double points once. (i.e. you can't use the same book of 130 points to keep doubling)
◈ Each spell-it-out word can only be completed once for double points
◈ Books read AT ANY TIME during the challenge can count for the spell-it-out , but DO need to be separate books from those you claimed for goals.
◈ The usual book length rules apply, Books must be more than 100 pages in length and Children's books and Graphic Novels can not be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 25,000 words using arbookfind.com
◈ Spreadsheets will be updated for the Captains to update and track the teams points

Spell-it-out rules

Using the first letter in the book’s title, the first letter in the author’s first or last name, or the first letter of a character’s first, last, or nick-name, or the first letter in the audiobook narrators first or last name.. As always, if the first letter of a title starts with ‘A’, ‘An’, ‘The’, etc., you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word.

message 1018: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments We can use our goalless book and any book we use as a letter can't be used for a goal.

Do we want to assign all our goalless books we can to the appropriate letters or wait until later in the month and see where we are. We have no really awful letters although in the past I have had trouble getting O although here we can use character names which makes it easier.

A quick look at our unused books shows we can complete at least two of the words just from those.

message 1019: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I always struggle with the vowels in the spell it out challenges. Maybe if we have some of those in the goalless books we fill in a few of those and then see how we look at the end of the month before we use all of them?

Also, do we need to find the shared letters only once, or once for each word?

message 1020: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments I agree Stacey vowels can be hard, especially O for me. I have only counted the shared letters once in my count but I will double check.

message 1021: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Ok We do need to do every letter so we have to repeat the shared letters I have fixed my list to show this.

message 1022: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments We have completed the 25 Days of Christmas goals. Well done everyone. We have until the end of the month to use our mega boon.

message 1023: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments I say we throw goalless books in there for now.

message 1024: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Our current Goals are:

°Read a book where the first word of the text is As
°Read a book that is on your "to read" shelf that has the highest number of pages
°Read a book where a character is a socialite
°Read a book with a white cover
°Read a book with a computer on the cover

message 1025: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Ok I used some of the goalless books to spell out the first two answers.

message 1026: by Grace (new)

°Read a book where the first word of the text is As
°Read a book that is on your "to read" shelf that has the highest number of pages

°Sort your "to read" shelf by 'date added' and read a book that is number 251 or higher on your list (the first column before the book cover image)

message 1027: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Do you have a preference on which goal to use our boon on ?

message 1028: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments I have to go out so hopefully Abbie or Megan can use boon before deadline.

I am not sure which one is worse, the starts with As or computer on cover.

message 1029: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments Grace wrote: "I have to go out so hopefully Abbie or Megan can use boon before deadline.

Sorry just woken up, lets do the as one, its a little harder to get that or so it seems. When is our deadline? I'm not at a computer yet.

message 1030: by Ghost in the Stacks (new)

Ghost in the Stacks I think computer on cover is worse...just my thoughts.

message 1031: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments Ok I've used the boon. Used it on Read a book where the first word of the text is As.

message 1032: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments I'm reading a book that I just added to my TBR shelf that would have made it 350ish. So that goal will be taken care of ASAP

message 1033: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments Ellie wrote: "Happy New Year, team. Checking in to see where we are doing :)

I have a book where more than one character is a socialite, I'll get it started."

Awesome Ellie,

I've read the goal "Read a book with a computer on the cover" I read World of Shawn it has a laptop on the cover so that should count.

Sadly there is some sort of technical issue going on with the sheets, it hasn't updated for 4 hours and some other captains are complaining about it being down so hopefully its just google messing about with their sheet coding and it'l fix itself soon...

message 1034: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments Sheets are working again :-)

New goal
Read a book with a String instrument on the cover or in the title

Our Current Goals

message 1036: by Grace (last edited Jan 02, 2016 05:49PM) (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Sorry I had missed posts and then the sheets were down. I read The Great Gatsby for the socialite goal. I had also read a short computer on cover one too so we have that if we get a repeat.

One letter we really need for the spell it is Y

Megan and Abbie be careful when using unused books, I put some into the Spell out but they are not reading as used yet, it should be fixed tomorrow sometime.

message 1037: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments Ah no worries,

are they not showing up because we haven't put a book read in December to claim for double points?

message 1038: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments No it doesn't work for anyone at the minute, the sheets need a update to make it show.

We can have another look at how many more letters we can fill in once that is working. Need to look what books to claim for, I know I read a few long ones last month.

Does anyone want to read the longest book on their TBR ? I will be reading mine but I have one more in the series to read first.

message 1039: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments My longest book is War and Peace. It will take me months.

message 1040: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments Winter is my longest book. I'm planning on reading it this month anyway, but it will take me a while--I'm pretty slow--and I still have to wait for my turn from the library.

message 1041: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments LOL Meg you get a pass on that one, I really want to watch the new BBC adaptation of it but not sure I want to read it.

Stacey sorry you haven't got the book yet. I am debating catching up to Winter for the BOM. I am trying A Darker Shade of Magic again. I have got further than I did the last time. I need to get back to The Paper Swan

I will get to mine, I just try to fit my longer reads in with another challenge.

message 1042: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments Brisingr is mine, I could possibly purchase on amazon, as it is my next on the series but it is 763 and I'm on night shift until Wednesday morning so I may not get it started until then or Thursday depending on when it arrives, amazon has been abit spotty lately with deliveries.

message 1043: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Megan I wouldn't bother getting a book especially for a goal. I have my one already and I do plan on reading it,

I am almost done with a book with a guitar on the cover.

message 1044: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Our current Goals are:

°Read a book that is on your "to read" shelf that has the highest number of pages
°Sort your "to read" shelf by 'date added' and read a book that is number 251 or higher on your list (the first column before the book cover image)
°Read a book that appeals to your mind ; where you learn something new
°Read a book whose author died 2-5 years ago
°Read a book set in the time period "Middle Ages"

message 1045: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments I just finished Fairest which works for the 251 or higher shelf sorted by 'date added'

message 1046: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Thanks Meg you are all set for reading Winter

New Goal

Read a book where someone tames/befriends an animal

message 1047: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments I don't know how we are doing the January challenge thing, but I read Supreme Justice in December that should work for that first S in the next section.

message 1048: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Thanks Meg I will fit it in when the spreadsheet is updated.

We need 2 O books, title, author, character names or audio narrator

1 Y book

Not sure what else we are missing .

message 1049: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments Whew, I finally finished Uprooted. I'll update the books read thread with my BOM link.

I'm going to start In Jack's Arms. There is a recurring character in this series named Yuri--hopefully he makes an appearance and speaks. :)

message 1050: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments I was going to continue the series anyway so even if it goes towards the goal or not I'll read it. I may be doing one of the BOMs but I'll have to see how I go for the moment.

Trying to think of what books I have that fit the letters needed. I've got two I should finish tonight so hopefully that will help us.
Ahh I just thought She Smells the Dead has a main character called Yuki. The book is literally about her so that would work for the Y I guess I finished it this morning/last night
