Meg did you like Fairest? I decided to skip it as I had no desire to read about Levana, but would you recommend it?

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Our current Goals are:

°Read a book that is on your "to read" shelf that has the highest number of pages
°Read a book that appeals to your mind ; where you learn something new
°Read a book set in the time period "Middle Ages"
°Read a book where someone tames/befriends an animal
°Read a book where a character gets a makeover

message 1053: by Ghost in the Stacks (new)

Ghost in the Stacks I just finished The Arsonist, which was based on real events, so it should count fot learn something new.

My kindle hates the spreedshhet, I cant even get it to load all the way before it shuts down and knocks me off.

I am headed into work, so if noone gets it in, I can do it when I get to a physical computer.

message 1054: by Ghost in the Stacks (new)

Ghost in the Stacks I tried...no luck.

Also No Place Like Oz , Dorothy gets a major makeover

message 1055: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Thanks Abbie I will update those now.

message 1056: by Ghost in the Stacks (new)

Ghost in the Stacks How are we doing the mini Challenge?
Should we just start filling in letters?

It wasn't bad. Gives a lot of backstory. Not required reading before Winter at all. Still no sympathy for Levana.

I say fill in what we got.
It seems like it is worth alot of points.
If we wait, then we have the opportunity to miss letters.

Just my 2¢

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Our current Goals are:

°Read a book that is on your "to read" shelf that has the highest number of pages
°Read a book set in the time period "Middle Ages"
°Read a book where someone tames/befriends an animal
°Read a book shelved (listed on the first page of the "top shelves" of the book) as need - plurals and minor spelling variations are acceptable
°Read a book with the word magic, sorcery, enchant or divine (plurals are acceptable) in the title

message 1060: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments I have a quesion in to the mods about the Need goal, we have books shelved Need to read soon and variants of that if it is approved I will update.

I know a few of us are reading A Darker Shade of Magic for BOM so that will work for latest goal if no one hits anything sooner.

I will work on the Australia day words in a bit.

message 1061: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments OK the need to read was approved so

New Goal

Read a book with minions (Like a vampire who has a seethe, or a person who uses zombies to do their evil bidding)

message 1062: by Ghost in the Stacks (new)

Ghost in the Stacks I went through and I finished updating the January Mini.

message 1063: by Grace (last edited Jan 04, 2016 08:09AM) (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Thanks Abbie. You were working on it at the same time I was. I am going through looking for our longest December books. We can claim for 5 at 130 points and 1 at 100.

message 1064: by Ghost in the Stacks (new)

Ghost in the Stacks Oh, I did see some updating.Sorry about that, I just had some free time this morning, work is pretty slow, so I thought I would try to get us some things updated.
I did get with the mods, as the sheet wasnt updating.

message 1065: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Thanks for doing it. Glad you have some time. Yes it has been a bit temperamental lately. I keep hoping it isn't me. I am deleting the books we used off the goalless books list.

message 1066: by Ghost in the Stacks (new)

Ghost in the Stacks No Problem. Its starting to get busy, so I probably wont be able to get on today during work, so Just let me know if they get it all fixed, or if we need to fix anything

message 1067: by Ghost in the Stacks (new)

Ghost in the Stacks Grace, I think I see it, we need to add page cts to the bonus ones, all the others are filled in except those...
Totally missed that.

message 1068: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments I'm a little confused.

Concerning the books we use for January mini game when we do the books read in december claimed as double points do these books have to be unclaimed from previous goals? OR can we use books that are claimed?? I assumed we couldn't but I can see the books you've picked have been claimed previously...

message 1069: by Megan (last edited Jan 04, 2016 11:29AM) (new)

Megan | 1607 comments Nevermind, I went searching I'll add our page numbers in. Hopefully we've picked the books that have the highest amount of pages just so we get the most points :-)

Well done guys, our points are 1500 for January mini challenge!

message 1070: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Sorry I entered the books but left the page numbers while I double checked I had picked the best books then I had computer issues so I didn't get back to add them.

I have completed the middle ages goal but the spreadsheet is playing up again.

message 1071: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments Its ok, I did a quick scan, you were on fire for long books in december lol!

Ahh shocker, it seems to be the same time every night now... Wonder what is going on. probably google updating at the same time each night and its causing issues with the sheets.

message 1072: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments I hadn't noticed it was at the same time. I have been reading at least one longer book a week for another challenge. I have a couple started at the minute, I break up the longer books unless they suck me in.

Ellie well done. I wonder if that would count as a book with minions. The death eaters do Voldemort's bidding.

message 1073: by TheBookishFairy (new)

TheBookishFairy (Lauren) I've just finished 'the One' by Kiera Cass so if we still need it, that might work for 'O' for the January mini challenge?

message 1074: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Thanks Lauren. We have completed it for 1500 points :)

I am sure The one will get used soon enough, it fits lots of the possible goals. The covers for that series are beautiful.

message 1075: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments New Goal

Read a book that contains the word parsley

message 1076: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments Grace wrote: " New Goal

Oh my god. Really? That is a goal. Laughing right now. That'l be fun to find a book that fits that.

And Well done Ellie, Is this the first time reading the HP series or are you re-reading?
Every book counts. If I can I'll try to add books to the goalless book tab but we'll see.

message 1077: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments I know. I searched my Kindle and a few I have read in the challenge had it but they have all been used for goals. There is one I might read.

Do you think we should use the Potter book for the minions goal ?

I did start adding some of the goalless books but with the spreadsheet playing up I stopped. If you can add some that would be great. I wlil put more on tomorrow.

message 1078: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Megan you should look at the possible goals list some of the words in the text are really silly, mint, strawberry, watermelon and then things like twitterpated ( we have an used book for this at the minute, the unidentified redhead. ) aggregate and annex.

message 1079: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments I vote HP works for minion goal.

message 1080: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments Oh god, I don't want to look, to be honest we'd probably be shocked at how many of the books we read have these words in... I doubt we notice because they're not exactly shocking words.

How would HP work for Minions? By House elves is that what you mean? Or by having pets like the cat, owl and rat?

message 1081: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments No I meant the death eaters being Voldemort's minions. They do his bidding.

message 1082: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments I need to go to bed. Goodnight everyone.

message 1083: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments Grace wrote: "No I meant the death eaters being Voldemort's minions. They do his bidding."

Ahh I see, ok that would work then.

Night Grace :)

message 1084: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments New goal
Read a book in a series that you've been putting off

message 1085: by TheBookishFairy (new)

TheBookishFairy (Lauren) Ah pffft, glad we've finished the January challenge but trust me to miss that! I can't believe some of those words we'd have to find, I'll never remember if I've read some of them or not!

I will see if I can start a book for the put off series goal as I own a few if no one else has one in mind? :)

message 1086: by TheBookishFairy (new)

TheBookishFairy (Lauren) Actually, I was planning on starting Vampire Academy as I've borrowed it from the library and that is a series I've been putting off for years, I can start it today :)

message 1087: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments That is great Lauren. I hope you like it.

message 1089: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments The book I finished last night: The Deal, has the phrase 'head start' in it's text.

message 1090: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Thanks Meg.

I have updated the goalless books.

New Goal

Read a book with the phrase "all ears" in a book

message 1092: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments Did we finish the Australia challenge?

message 1093: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Yes Meg for 1500 points :)

message 1094: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments Even though we got the Mega-boon, do we still get our normal one? I have a feeling no one will be reading the longest book on their TBR list.

message 1095: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments We have a normal boon that expires on the 16th Jan. I should have my longest book read before then, I am reading the one before it now.

The "all ears" one is annoying.

The goalless book list is up to date.

message 1096: by Grace (new)

°Read a book with the phrase "all ears" in a book
°Read a book where a character is a socialite

message 1097: by TheBookishFairy (new)

TheBookishFairy (Lauren) If the elite or the one by Kiera Cass have not already been used for goals, could they count for the socialite goal? The 'twos' have a few different socialites and both have events mentioned in them where socialites attend events with the royal family? Not currently on a computer so can't easily see our goalless books!

message 1098: by megan (last edited Jan 06, 2016 09:35AM) (new)

megan | 1492 comments I just finished A Darker Shade of Magic for BOM and the Read a book with the word magic, sorcery, enchant or divine (plurals are acceptable) in the title goal.

message 1099: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Thanks Meg. Did you like it ? I haven't read past today's section.

The spreadsheet has it's knickers in a twist again so I will update when I can.

Lauren neither have been used yet. Are the socialites named characters that are part of the plot ? Can you give me the name of one for the spreadsheet so I can put X is a socialite.
