Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I will check! :) I must have been typing at the same time as you. Is there an easy way to check for a word in a non-kindle book?

That was a quite lovely run of goals filled!

I was the same I read them in a couple of days. I was going to Dublin and started the first one on the train and almost forgot to get off. I am not a Mac fan, or Dani but I love Barrons and Ryodan.

Yes, Barrons has a special place in my heart... I did dislike him pretty much most of the way through and I was team V'lan but I did change my mind eventually.

Just going through my previous reviews of the series and 'Mac annoyed me a lot' has featured in every one of them...

message 406: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments LOL she definitely has a place on my annoying heroines list. Another of Moning's heroines really bugs me Adrienne from Beyond the Highland Mist I never liked V'lane, too pretty boy.

I think that was why I liked him, I need a pretty boy sometimes...

I do hate it when a story has such a good story line and the author then lets it down by having a weak character, especially the main character. I haven't read anymore of her books yet. I'm not sure I will.

message 408: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I've heard that Mac gets better, so I've been trying to just deal with the endless outfit descriptions and her blonde cheerleader hair and I think I can deal with her. I'm hoping I will get to like Barrons more- right now he's just a pompous ass.

That is exactly how I felt about them both.

Ghost in the Stacks Just finished Fair Game (Alpha & Omega, #3) by Patricia Briggs , headed to bed, so i will update spreadsheet in the Morning.

message 411: by TheBookishFairy (new)

TheBookishFairy (Lauren) I've just sorted my 'to read' shelf to see if I have any of the books for that goal. I've come to the horrifying realisation that I need to have a major sort out of my shelves!
I was just wondering how we are defining a character who is extremely lucky as that can be interpreted in a variety of ways... ?
Hope everyone is enjoying what they are reading at the moment :)

message 412: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Lauren I know I need to sort my TBR too. We have already completed the Lucky goal although knowing our luck we will see it again :) I used a book with a character who has unbelievable Luck, almost like a super power.

These our are current goals

°Read a book that has a number in the title with a series number one higher than that number
°Sort your "to read" shelf by 'date added' and read a book that is within Numbers 51-100 on your list (the first column before the book cover image)
°Read a book with the name of the tarot card "Temperance" in the text or title
°Read a book whose author died last year
°Read a book with 1-10 chapters

message 413: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments I am reading John Adams and it have the word Temperance in the text. Twice. It's going to take me a while to read, but technically it fills that goal.

message 414: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments That is good Megan. I am reading Death Comes to Pemberley which will cover author who died last year. I have been meaning to read it for ages so this a good reason to.

message 415: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I found a novella with enough pages and only 10 chapters that I will try to fit in around my BOMs.

message 416: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments It's actually the second time we had that goal thrown at us.

message 417: by [deleted user] (new)

I can do A Thousand Nights for °Sort your "to read" shelf by 'date added' and read a book that is within Numbers 51-100 on your list (the first column before the book cover image)

message 418: by [deleted user] (new)

What BOMs are you doing? I'll be doing DQs for Uprooted and *maybe* (If my library has it) DQs for American Gods.

message 419: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Ellie wrote: "The title with a series number goal has been there for a while. Does any have suggestions? I'll be more than happy to read something that fits and get it crossed out of our list."

If you have something that works that would be great I read one the last time and I do have another that works but it is a reread of a book I liked not loved.

That is great I hope you enjoy it. I am not sure on BOM I need to a take a look. I hope you get to do the DQs.

message 421: by [deleted user] (new)

The BOMs are
American Gods (American Gods, #1) by Neil Gaiman
Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng
Uprooted by Naomi Novik

Rebecca, I'm doing Six of Crows this month--I've put my name in for DQs, but so have 30 other people so waiting to see if I get it. I'll probably do Uprooted as well. And then I'm doing the November and December Back Room BOMs.

Ghost in the Stacks Sorry ladies, I feel like I have been letting you down this week, life has been pretty hetic.
Between me getting home late every night, and the challenge I am running in my group, I havent had the time to stop by much.

However I am almost done with MaddAddam (MaddAddam, #3) by Margaret Atwood & Medicus (Gaius Petreius Ruso, #1) by Ruth Downie

message 424: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished Legacy of Kings.

message 425: by megan (last edited Nov 19, 2015 04:45AM) (new)

megan | 1492 comments I'm starting Six of Crowsthis weekend and plan on at least reading Uprooted. I didn't request DQs though because I have no idea how my work schedule will pan out.

I have a MOBI copy of the BOM Everything I Never Told You. I purchased the ePub earlier this year and my husband unlocked and converted it so I could read it on my Kindle app. If anyone wants to read it, I can email it to you.

message 427: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments I completed the Author who died last year with a PD James novel. Our next goal was read a book published in July , we had one in our unused books so

Our current Open Goals

°Read a book that has a number in the title with a series number one higher than that number

You have been busy, I am just happy we didn't hit a speed bump this week :)

I haven't read any Margaret Atwood Book in years I really should, I have a few I have been meaning to get to.

message 430: by [deleted user] (new)

I could do The Thirteenth Tale or The Shadow of the Wind for Read a book that is in the "Best Crime & Mystery Books" Listopia List (https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...). (Maybe The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America because I own a copy)

message 431: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments I realised I still hadn't read Written in My Own Heart's Blood (Outlander, #8) by Diana Gabaldon so I am going back and rereading the series. Last time I flew threw them all in a couple of days, this time I need to fit in a few other books for challenges. I started Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon last night just stopped to finish Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James which was really disappointing. I should be done later today and onto the next one.

The US edition of A Thousand Nights has stars under the dustjacket! SO PRETTY!!!!!!!! (I saw the Amazon diagram of the UK hardcover. PRETTIER!! If I like it I might buy it, or sell mine at Half Price Books and replace it. I am so weird.) Also yay! We are in 6th place!

Sometimes we get much nicer covers here, sometimes you do. They can vary so much. I read mostly on my Kindle these days but I still get swayed by a great cover.

Anything you want to read from the Crime Mystery list would be great. I own a few but I won't be able to fit them in until after the weekend.

message 434: by TheBookishFairy (new)

TheBookishFairy (Lauren) Does anyone know of a way of searching a book for a particular word online I.e to search for 'temperance' in the text of a book to see if it actually has that word in before we read it? It may be a ridiculous thing to ask but I was just wondering if anyone knew of a way! : )

message 435: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments DO you have a kindle ? I can search mine and it will tell me ever book on my kindle the word appears in. The problem I found with Temperance was it also flagged Temper , Tempered etc What book is it ? If I have it I can check.

message 436: by TheBookishFairy (new)

TheBookishFairy (Lauren) I was going to check assassins apprentice by Robin Hobb? :)

message 437: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments If you're using an ebook app, like the kindle app on your phone you can def check on there. Its on the menu part. Like grace said, if we have the book we shall search it, that goes for everyone wanting to search for a word. :-)

Sorry I've been quiet today. Been sleeping off my night shift... and it'l be a blissfully early night for me. :)

message 438: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Lauren My DH has Assassin's Apprentice I checked and it does contain the word temperance. Meg said she was reading a book with Temperance in it so you don't need to read it specifically for the goal. It has been a very long time since I read that book, it was a great series.

message 439: by TheBookishFairy (new)

TheBookishFairy (Lauren) Thank you Grace - I was planning on reading it anyway. Meg will probably be finished first as I need to finish Winter but thank you for checking for me! Hopefully we can use it for a later goal. I'm looking forward to starting thee series, my manager at work has been desperate to get me to read it :)

message 440: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments I'm reading John Adams and it's almost ~750 pages. It's for another teams challenge so I'm not reading it just for the word temperance. But, since it's a nonfiction, it is likely going to take me a while to read.

message 441: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments I am sure it will fit something. I hope you like it. It has been a long time since I read any Robin Hobb books but I loved that series. One of my favourites along with Daggerspell It is funny that is how my DH and I got talking he was reading Ship of Magic
