Jack | 23 comments I am considering writing a series of books set in a fantasy version of Japan, during the middle ages for about 200 years Japan was embroiled in a civil war called the Sengoku Period. Basically the Shogun, instead of the emperor was in charge and everybody fought everybody. I would have a country resembling China and the Mongols as well does this sound interesting? Does anybody have any suggestions, tips ideas for the series? I am open to critics and suggustions

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) Hello Jack, I'm certainly interested in such an endeavour. Go for it. Asian-themed fantasy is even a little bit in fashion, I think. My own study area is Mongols, so I urge you to represent them well, while I have the chance. After deep disappointment with Guy Gavriel Kay's steppe peoples as also with the Mongol lookalikes in the aforementioned Game of Thrones.
