E.E. Giorgi (eegiorgi) | 20 comments Hi All,

can anyone recommend books in the style of Raymond Chandler? I read a couple by Ross Macdonald, which I liked, and I also read Red Harvest by Dashiell Hammett, which I didn't enjoy as much ... Any other hard-boiled/noir/witty/sarcastic writers out there?

thanks !!

Jan C (woeisme) | 39180 comments Robert Crais' Elvis Cole is kind of a smart aleck.

Why don't you give Hammett another try. He's pretty good and writes from his Pinkerton experience. Maybe try his short stories - the Continental Op.

Have you tried Ross Macdonald? I'm in Chandler withdrawal and someone suggested this author.

That's the time when you read Chandler all over again, I think.

Ross Macdonald is good, too. Ran through him years ago.

No, I just finished all the novels a couple of weeks ago.

Daniel (diaze) | 1018 comments Might I suggest the Parker novels by Richard Stark, alias of Donald Westlake? He is not so much hero as antihero, not PI, but definitely worthy of your consideration.

I have the first novel in the series -- looking forward to giving it a go.
