Brandon | 74 comments Has anyone here checked this book out yet? I want to see what others think. It is fairly typical YA sci-fi, but I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of a futuristic Lord of the flies toward the end. I would have to guess it will be the next big YA series.

Ions my friend just finished this book and highly recommended it. the description seems pretty bland but my friend says it really picks up

Michael Lavin | 71 comments is it a sees or a Stand alone book. To be honest between PR and GRRM I'm about feed up with there lackadaisical approach to real easing the next book in BOTH there series. I feel both authors have gotten away from there true responsibilities to there Fans. Side projects of games and other distractions have sidetracked them from focusing and completing what they started in a respectable time. The 6 year waits and 4 years lapses between books is unacceptable as a consumer. I just want them to not forget what got them to where they are…. their stories and worlds they have built. I enjoy the other produce they produced but just ask for them to progress in their publications…. Fans understand what I'm saying cause I'm vested in these worlds…..So I'm not starting another series by either Author just to be strung along like i have been. Ill read if its a stand alone……

As someone who started reading King's Dark Tower series before it was complete, I can totally understand wanting your series done quickly, but also based on the end of the Dark Tower series, I'm also going to vote for not rushing artistic work.

yeah, it sucks. we've all complained about it, each and every one. Hasn't gotten the book done any faster and I think if it did, we'd all be highly unhappy with the workmanship that went into it.

An artist probably shouldn't focus completely on their art. That might just make their art stale, boring, and not worth it.

Nora (newnoz) | 3 comments Well it was waiting for GRRM that got me to find PR so i find it is a mixed curse, so to speak.

Robert Stalker (robertstalker) | 1 comments Red Rising is a great read. Very different in style from KKC. I wouldn't say it starts slow, but after the first hundred or so pages it picks up and the last half you'll probably do in one sitting it's so captivating.

I would agree that the description is a bit bland, and almost makes me not want to read it. The comparison to the Hunger Games works in that is uses similar mechanisms like a tiered/caste society, districts or houses, etc. but it reads very differently. The Ender's Game comparison works as well as it's a bit introspective on what's acceptable in society concerning topics like justice, killing, etc. but it also approaches it a bit differently. The main character is definitely not Ender Wiggin either.

The book is full of solid quotes. Lots of memorable bits. I would also agree that it's going to be the next big YA craze, but I'd day it's aimed at the older YA group.
