D.J. Minshall (djminshall) | 13 comments My daughter just asked me If I ever heard of Grammarly. Never heard of it so we searched it.

It is a Website that is a proofreader and plagiarism checker. It also has a contextual spelling checker as well it helps with vocabulary enhancement.

Seems pretty interesting, and it has 3 different payment options.

Was wondering if anyone has ever used this? Or do you think it would be a good thing to use?

D.J. Minshall (djminshall) | 13 comments Although for fun I just pasted that into it to check and it said significant plagiarism was detected.. yet I just typed that out so hmmm not sure how correct that part of it is lol

Mary Criswell-Carpenter | 44 comments I use copyscape for plagiarism. It is only $10 at a time. I want to make sure I don't inadvertently copy. I also ghostwrite blog articles and ebooks, so I have to check them.

I've used grammarly and found it expensive. There is another program available, ginger. I use it when I edit.

Martin Wilsey | 447 comments I love Grammarly. I purchased the MS Word plugin version and love it. I think it is worth the money.

It's tax deductible!

W. Boutwell | 157 comments I use Grammarly but I am hardly a dyed-in-the-wool, trench-warrior writer. My first novel I (self-published) this week. My take away is that it is useful but a trial. It is helpful in picking up redundancies and prepositional malaprops but the plagarism utility is a trial.
I have to spend hours reviewing ordinary word sequences that some high school student posted, each time admonishing me that "In Summary" must be appropriately references and permission granted before use. Most of the real plagarism references my own postings of the same work.
That notwithstanding, it is a good discipline and I renewed my subscription just last month.

I use it as a very useful editing tool. It is not perfect, so some human judgement and experience is needed, but it will red-flag things in a hurry and tell you what it thinks is wrong.

P.D. Workman (pdworkman) I use it.

Andres Mann | 15 comments I use Grammarly embedded in Word. It's useful for basic editing and very useful for checking potential plagiarism.

Careful, though. When you pay for a month, automatic renewal is on by default. They automatically hit your card again when the subscription runs out. My advice is when you subscribe, turn automatic renewals off.
