We have a lot of libraries within our county. One of my particular rants is that the library in our city, which was recently remodeled, is actually the worst looking of them all. Almost all of the other libraries that I've been to have lovely seating areas and gas fireplaces. One has views the Bay Trail (San Francisco) along the back. Ours looks more like a school library. Oh well!

do we still get extra points for reading the BOM after the discussion.
I just checked and all copies of 6 of crows are out at my library and there is a waiting list of 10 (of 13 copies). Most are due back after the start date. If I can't get the copy until after the discussion is finished (by the date of last questions), but I still answer the questions can it count?

If you haven't been reading, have you been doing anything else exciting?? If you don't want to be social that is fine too --- just reply with a "checking in"!

My excitement has been nursing my dog who had surgery on her ligaments (knee) last Thursday. I also started a new job on Monday. I do have 3 books in process though :-D

So I'm back. I have one short announcement to make: from now on, I will post some questions or mini-activity every week on this thread on Tuesday (my time), which I think is Monday afternoon for people who are living in North America.
Everyone, please visit this thread and check-in once every week. Like JoLene said, if you don't want to be social, that is totally fine, but you need to check-in so we know you're still with us.
Great! Now, the question for today is:
Name a hobby of yours that you or people think is bizarre
I'll start first: I really enjoy remembering dates, especially birthdays or anniversaries. Also, I am really good at memorizing schedule. So I remember the birthdays of most people in my grade, and schedules of most of them too.
People think it's creepy, but well...
Happy reading!!!

Literally? OMG that's so cool. A bit creepy though :D

In order for your books to 'count' for the challenge, you must do a couple of simple steps.
When you start a book
1) Change the status to 'currently reading'. This will set the start date in GR.
Make sure you find the edition of the book that you are reading.
2) You also need to chose the shelf name that you indicated when you started the challenge. This will help us track the challenge books easily. "Shelf names"
When you finish the book
1) Mark it as read, which will set the date read on GR
2) Post a thread in the Khnum books read thread

I actually asked one of the mod to check it but I don't know why nothing has been updated...

Actually, the book isn't shelved as angsty on the first page of Top Shelves.

Sigh, and I was so hoping to get rid of that one ;)
Thanks Sonia, for letting us know!"
No problem. I'm going to correct it. Btw.. goal points are automatic.. so.. if they don't appear is because something is not right.

Read a book that has the birthstone Topaz in the text or title
Read a book shelved (listed on the first page on GR) as angsty - plurals and spelling acceptable
Read a book with a picture frame on the cover
Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Hanged Man" in the text or title
Read a book where the ISBN10 number has exactly 6 odd numbers
Since I'm in a good mood I'm going to check ISBN numbers

And now I need to check if "Read a book with 3 U's in the title" means exactly 3. I think so. But better check.

Q. we have a goal read a book with 3 U's in title we have a book with 4 U's is that acceptable or does it have to be just the 3 of that letter
A. It is just 3 (otherwise it may say "at least 3" or "3 or more")
Okay, so Khnum's open goals are:
Read a book that has the birthstone Topaz in the text or title
Read a book shelved (listed on the first page on GR) as angsty - plurals and spelling acceptable
Read a book with a picture frame on the cover
Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Hanged Man" in the text or title
Read a book with 3 U's in the title

Every two weeks we get a 'boon' which means we can throw out one of our goals. We need to do this by end of day today (I think) or we lose the opportunity.
Here is our list of current goals:
1) Read a book that has the birthstone Topaz in the text or title
2) Read a book shelved (listed on the first page on GR) as angsty - plurals and spelling acceptable
3) Read a book with a picture frame on the cover
4) Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Hanged Man" in the text or title
5) Read a book with 3 U's in the title
Since I'm not one of the power readers on the team, I thought I would ask you guys. If I don't hear from you, I will get rid of the tarot card one since it seems the hardest.
(Sam indicated that she is reading one with topaz in the cover)

I was able to get some goals covered for you. It generated some more. Here's your current list. Let us know if you wanna get rid of one.
~ Read a book that has the birthstone Topaz in the text or title
~ Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Emperor" in the text or title
~ Sort your "to read" shelf by 'date added' and read a book that is number 251 or higher on your list (the first column before the book cover image)
~ Read a book that is on your "to read" shelf that has the lowest number of pages (but meets the challenge page requirements)
~ Read a book where an uninportant character dies
=====
Removed with boon ~
~ Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Hanged Man" in the text or title

So, can I use my "own-tbr" shelf for the purposes of the goals since I think that is the shelf that was the original meaning in GR.

~ Read a book where an uninportant character dies
------
No, sorry, I was informed that it has to be the main "to-read" shelf. Sorry for the wrong info I gave initially! :(

~ Read a book where an uninportant character dies
------
Yes, whatever you use as your main "TBR" even if you have named it something else will work."
The book I just posted, Alanna: The First Adventure, would work for that one. One of her friends dies of a fever and it spurs her to realize she needs to use her powers of healing. He's so minor I don't remember his name, so it should count :)

Actually, yesterday was posted that in that kind of goal it has to be to-read shelf
post is here

Absolutely it'll work. I'll get back there in just a bit and add it on for y'all.

Anyway, my day was long and full of dumb irritations. Nothing horrible, at least, but it kept things from running smoothly. I'm off to bed now, but I'll check in again tomorrow. Hope you all are doing well and enjoying your books!
