CassieV | 1196 comments Heehee, I take shameless advantage of it, too! My husband swears the delivery guy must hate us because between me and my kids, we always get a huge stack dropped off.

Anyway, my day was long and full of dumb irritations. Nothing horrible, at least, but it kept things from running smoothly. I'm off to bed now, but I'll check in again tomorrow. Hope you all are doing well and enjoying your books!

message 102: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Wow -- I also didn't hear of a library that delivers. We can get books delivered to whatever library we want within the county. I can find most things except some graphic novels (I'm in a graphic novel bookclub).

We have a lot of libraries within our county. One of my particular rants is that the library in our city, which was recently remodeled, is actually the worst looking of them all. Almost all of the other libraries that I've been to have lovely seating areas and gas fireplaces. One has views the Bay Trail (San Francisco) along the back. Ours looks more like a school library. Oh well!

message 103: by CassieV (new)

CassieV | 1196 comments Well, our libraries are hideous, so I guess that's the trade off!

message 104: by CassieV (new)

CassieV | 1196 comments Oh, and I have Six of Crows coming, and hopefully it will be here in time for me to join the BR. Anyone else thinking of joining?

message 105: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Hum....I might do that one....let me check to see if it's possible to get a copy of the book from library. When does it start again??

message 106: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Question for the mods.....
do we still get extra points for reading the BOM after the discussion.

I just checked and all copies of 6 of crows are out at my library and there is a waiting list of 10 (of 13 copies). Most are due back after the start date. If I can't get the copy until after the discussion is finished (by the date of last questions), but I still answer the questions can it count?

message 107: by CassieV (new)

CassieV | 1196 comments I believe the start date is the 22nd. I'll have to get on the computer to know for sure.

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Hello everyone --- we are a week into the challenge and it seems our team is having a slow ramp up. If you did NOT post a book this week, please check-in here. We need to hear from you every week or so to make sure that you are still playing (it is fine that you don't read a book in a week).

If you haven't been reading, have you been doing anything else exciting?? If you don't want to be social that is fine too --- just reply with a "checking in"!

message 109: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments I can start since I didn't finish any books this week. I was finishing up some lingering reads and didn't have much time or brain power for reading.

My excitement has been nursing my dog who had surgery on her ligaments (knee) last Thursday. I also started a new job on Monday. I do have 3 books in process though :-D

Sam Lien (sam_nguyen) | 124 comments Hello everyone,

So I'm back. I have one short announcement to make: from now on, I will post some questions or mini-activity every week on this thread on Tuesday (my time), which I think is Monday afternoon for people who are living in North America.
Everyone, please visit this thread and check-in once every week. Like JoLene said, if you don't want to be social, that is totally fine, but you need to check-in so we know you're still with us.
Great! Now, the question for today is:
Name a hobby of yours that you or people think is bizarre

I'll start first: I really enjoy remembering dates, especially birthdays or anniversaries. Also, I am really good at memorizing schedule. So I remember the birthdays of most people in my grade, and schedules of most of them too.
People think it's creepy, but well...

Happy reading!!!

message 111: by CassieV (new)

CassieV | 1196 comments Umm, most people seem to think my obsession with book challenges is bizarre, does that count?? Lol, my husband DEFINITELY thinks I'm crazy ;)

Literally? OMG that's so cool. A bit creepy though :D

message 114: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Most of my hobbies are run-of-the-mill, but I am always doing some type of challenge, but especially reading challenges. My husband also things it's crazy because I stress myself out doing it :-D

message 115: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments IMPORTANT!!!

In order for your books to 'count' for the challenge, you must do a couple of simple steps.

When you start a book
1) Change the status to 'currently reading'. This will set the start date in GR.
Make sure you find the edition of the book that you are reading.
2) You also need to chose the shelf name that you indicated when you started the challenge. This will help us track the challenge books easily. "Shelf names"

When you finish the book
1) Mark it as read, which will set the date read on GR
2) Post a thread in the Khnum books read thread

CassieV | 1196 comments Hi captains! I know you're busy, but if you get a chance can we update our books and goals? :) Sorry, I'm just a bit antsy to see what the new goal will be since we got a book to cover that angsty one!

I actually asked one of the mod to check it but I don't know why nothing has been updated...

message 118: by CassieV (new)

CassieV | 1196 comments Okay, thanks for looking into it, Sam!

Actually, the book isn't shelved as angsty on the first page of Top Shelves.

message 120: by CassieV (new)

CassieV | 1196 comments Nooooo!

Sigh, and I was so hoping to get rid of that one ;)

Thanks Sonia, for letting us know!

No problem. I'm going to correct it. Btw.. goal points are automatic.. so.. if they don't appear is because something is not right.

message 122: by CassieV (new)

CassieV | 1196 comments Good to know!

message 123: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments But... you have a book from a Robyn Carr... and Robin is on the German list.

On my way to add it :D

message 124: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments OKay, goals update:

Read a book that has the birthstone Topaz in the text or title
Read a book shelved (listed on the first page on GR) as angsty - plurals and spelling acceptable
Read a book with a picture frame on the cover
Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Hanged Man" in the text or title
Read a book where the ISBN10 number has exactly 6 odd numbers

Since I'm in a good mood I'm going to check ISBN numbers

message 125: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments And used Last Olympian fro Jordan for that :P

Aren't you happy I'm checking teams? :D

message 126: by CassieV (new)

CassieV | 1196 comments So happy! Thank you very much :D

message 127: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments CassieV wrote: "So happy! Thank you very much :D"

And now I need to check if "Read a book with 3 U's in the title" means exactly 3. I think so. But better check.

message 128: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Checked:

Q. we have a goal read a book with 3 U's in title we have a book with 4 U's is that acceptable or does it have to be just the 3 of that letter
A. It is just 3 (otherwise it may say "at least 3" or "3 or more")

Okay, so Khnum's open goals are:

Read a book that has the birthstone Topaz in the text or title
Read a book shelved (listed on the first page on GR) as angsty - plurals and spelling acceptable
Read a book with a picture frame on the cover
Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Hanged Man" in the text or title
Read a book with 3 U's in the title

message 131: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Hello all,
Every two weeks we get a 'boon' which means we can throw out one of our goals. We need to do this by end of day today (I think) or we lose the opportunity.

Here is our list of current goals:
1) Read a book that has the birthstone Topaz in the text or title
2) Read a book shelved (listed on the first page on GR) as angsty - plurals and spelling acceptable
3) Read a book with a picture frame on the cover
4) Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Hanged Man" in the text or title
5) Read a book with 3 U's in the title

Since I'm not one of the power readers on the team, I thought I would ask you guys. If I don't hear from you, I will get rid of the tarot card one since it seems the hardest.
(Sam indicated that she is reading one with topaz in the cover)

message 132: by CassieV (new)

CassieV | 1196 comments I don't know if I count as a "power reader", but I vote for the tarot card or the "angsty" one

message 133: by Karsyn (last edited Nov 21, 2015 03:10PM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Hey y'all ~

I was able to get some goals covered for you. It generated some more. Here's your current list. Let us know if you wanna get rid of one.

~ Read a book that has the birthstone Topaz in the text or title
~ Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Emperor" in the text or title
~ Sort your "to read" shelf by 'date added' and read a book that is number 251 or higher on your list (the first column before the book cover image)
~ Read a book that is on your "to read" shelf that has the lowest number of pages (but meets the challenge page requirements)
~ Read a book where an uninportant character dies

=====

Removed with boon ~
~ Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Hanged Man" in the text or title

message 134: by CassieV (new)

CassieV | 1196 comments Okay, then I vote for "the Hanged Man" :)

Thanks for looking it over, Karsyn!

message 135: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Thanks Karsyn -- I will request The Hanged Man as the boon fulfillment in the other thread. Thanks for looking out for this.

message 136: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments I have a question regarding the goals. For the "to read" shelf, does it specifically have to be "to read" as the name. I re-named my "to-read" to be "own-tbr" --- these are the books that I own and haven't read. My shelf that is "to-read" is for books that "want to read" but don't own.

So, can I use my "own-tbr" shelf for the purposes of the goals since I think that is the shelf that was the original meaning in GR.

message 137: by Karsyn (last edited Nov 21, 2015 03:19PM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) New Goal

~ Read a book where an uninportant character dies

------

No, sorry, I was informed that it has to be the main "to-read" shelf. Sorry for the wrong info I gave initially! :(

CassieV | 1196 comments Karsyn wrote: "New Goal

Yes, whatever you use as your main "TBR" even if you have named it something else will work."

The book I just posted, Alanna: The First Adventure, would work for that one. One of her friends dies of a fever and it spurs her to realize she needs to use her powers of healing. He's so minor I don't remember his name, so it should count :)

Actually, yesterday was posted that in that kind of goal it has to be to-read shelf

Absolutely it'll work. I'll get back there in just a bit and add it on for y'all.

message 141: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Also, I was worried about this, y'all had Invisible Library as a "picture frame" on cover, I guess since the cover itself is a frame? That's not going to be accepted, so you'll still have to do that goal as well. So sorry.

message 142: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Rats --- that makes it more difficult since my to-read are books that I don't have

message 143: by CassieV (new)

CassieV | 1196 comments Don't worry JoLene, I'm sure someone else can cover that one. I read from mine a lot :)
