B J Burton (bjburton) | 2680 comments I really didn't know where to put this, but it seems important enough to mention somewhere. I don't know how much coverage the Dorset e coli outbreak has received nationally. It's both worrying and strange.
The outbreak began in the middle of 2014. Since then some 30 people have been infected, including 10 children who had to be taken into intensive care and who have suffered permanent damage. Some are awaiting transplants and one has developed epilepsy.
The outbreak has occurred sporadically in small clusters scattered about Dorset.
The only three people infected who don't live in Dorset all have strong personal links to the county.
The strange things are that this particular strain has never previously infected anyone anywhere in the UK, and the authorities have been unable to discover anything that links the groups of people infected - other than that they live in Dorset.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I hope Geoff doesn't catch it! And bring it back to Cheshire.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Thanks, B.J., I've not heard about this and I'm wondering why not. Seems like it's being kept quiet.

Jim | 21812 comments Actually if you put e coli 055 into google you come up with the BBC reports long before you get to the wiki, so if it's being covered up, it's a pretty poor attempt at doing it.

Frankly I suspect it's just that it's not happening in London and the national media already have enough stories to keep them going

B J Burton (bjburton) | 2680 comments It's certainly being extensively reported here in the Southwest, both in newspapers and on tv/radio. I wondered whether the story was being reported more widely.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments There's a Twitter feed (look up E. coli & Dorset). But we haven't heard anything and we read a lot news items.
I'd be looking at an undeclared worker /carrier in the food industry.
