Sue Lay | 1 comments Hi,

My 8 year old girl loves her Enid Blyton "Naughtiest Girl" and "Famous Five" collections - a single book made up of three or four books.

She particularly likes this format of multiple books in one. Anyone have any other suggestions for this age group?

Thanks in advance!
Sue

You might want to keyword search 'omnibus' at your favorite bookseller or publisher.

Would a box set satisfy her?

The series' pages here will reveal if there are omnibus editions of some of the books in the series; if you know the name of one of the books you can find that information.

Sometimes old favorites that are simply by the same author are bundled together, even if they're not series. You just have to guess & check, though, as far as I know. For example, I did search Nesbit and found The Enchanted Castle and Five Children and It.

Michael Fitzgerald The Betsy-Tacy Treasury - this includes the first four books of the series, the ones that are suitable for an 8-year-old.

Seconded! These are great stories.

Barbara Gilbert | 2 comments It is an old series but my third grade students loved The Boxcar Children. There are many titles in the series. I have seen them as singles and a boxed set (earlier titles).

Jenny | 722 comments What about the American girl stories...I think (but may be wrong) that you can sometimes get all 5 stories about a particular girl in one book. (At least I know the books on CD come that way...but I think I've seen the books that way as well?) Not in the same book...but my 2nd and 3rd graders have enjoyed when I have read them the stories about Pippi Longstocking and Mrs. Piggle Wiggle Box Set.

Lalitha, the only place we allow self-promotion is in the authors' folder. I have deleted both of your posts. I'm sure you have good intentions, but we have to apply the rules consistently.

Booky: A trilogy is an omnibus of the three Booky books (great reads), but I do not know how currently available it is. By the same author, the The Margaret Trilogy is equally enchanting, especially for a girl who likes reading about horses (both series are historical fiction, take place in Canada, in Depression era Ontario and are based on the author's own childhood experiences).

Carolien (carolien_s) I know you can get Dick King-Smith 's Sophie series in omnibus editions. My girls who are a similar age love them.

I have an omnibus edition which contains the first two books in the Green Knowe series - The Children of Green Knowe and The River at Green Knowe.

And you can also get the Mary Poppins books in an omnibus edition, as well as Mary Norton's "Borrowers"
