Hanging on to Max
question
Was anyone else pissed at the ending?

I almost threw my book across the room in rage due to the ending. The fact that Sam just gave up and gave Max up for adoption made me so angry. Especially after everything he has been through. Sam was doing a perfectly fine job, and it just seemed like he never even wanted the kid. Am I saying he didn't love him? No, I knew he did. But I felt so must frustration toward him when he just gave up and gave Max away like that. I wish I could have been Claire at this point and just walked away from him and never turned back. I felt so much rage that I'm surpirsed I did not throw this book.

I enjoyed the book and thought that the ending WAS reasonable.
Sam had struggled a LOT to see that Max got the best parenting that he could have, but he realized that he wasn't in any position to raise a kid well.
Remember in the story of Solomon that it's the mother that cares enough to give up the child because it's what best for the kid that is really the best mother.
