Fear. Books like this...movies like The Strangers. Pointless violence. Torture. Nut jobs.

- What's the scariest book that you've ever read? I don't really read books that scare me but Perfect Days creeped me out pretty good.
- What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about? What creatures of the night do you find most frightening? Well this is about Hannibal Lector who is a serial killer and eats his victims so that's pretty creepy.
- What else gives you the chills? I think just creepy people in general. The guy from Perfect Days was pretty creepy and I would never want to run into someone like that ever.

What's the scariest book that you've ever read? Hard to say.
What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about? What creatures of the night do you find most frightening?

I'm a bit of a wuss about scary books, but probably the scariest I've read is Red Dragon.
This book was horrifically scary (The Misremembered Man) in a completely different way. It put me in tortuous places, with the protagonist. There were times I had to walk away from the book.
What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about? What creatures of the night do you find most frightening?
I thought that this would be a typical twisty-turny novel, like Gone Girl. But it was more frightening than anything I've read in a long time.

- What's the scariest book that you've ever read?
Stella: One Woman's True Tale of Evil, Betrayal and Survival in Hitler's Germany, which is about a woman who worked for the Gestapo and gave them info about friends/neighbors to save her own skin. And it's TRUE, which makes it wayyyy more scary than any dystopian novel.
- What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about?
Zombies

Ehhhh, I'm not scared of things I know will never happen. I'm more afraid of wasps, snakes, bears, etc.

Graveyards, being home alone at night for too long, the possibility of getting raped/kidnapped when I'm out alone at night

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
- What's the scariest book that you've ever read?
The Trial has that distinction, though if we are talking actual marketed as horror novels books, more likely Misery.
- What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about? What creatures of the night do you find most frightening?
Ghosts. I would say that I am not particularly frightened by anything which does not actually exist. Humans are really the only thing that frighten me (and maybe taxes/bills).

Spiders

What's the scariest book that you've ever read? I do not read many scary books, to be honest. I'm using a children's book for my "bump in the night" book so ... what does that tell you? ;) I usually find dystopian books chilling because they have a more realistic quality to me. Like, wow, that could actually happen.
What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about? What creatures of the night do you find most frightening? Ghosts, mostly. But I certainly wouldn't want to find a Sleer under my bed or in my closet. :x

This Savage Song by Victoria Shwab
- What's the scariest book that you've ever read?
World War Z
- What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about?
Monsters that are born from human violence
What creatures of the night do you find most frightening?
not a fan of zombies, or paranormal/ghosts
- What else gives you the chills?
parasites, being on the ocean in a fog, swimming in water I can't see the bottom to.

I am cheating myself a little. I wanted to read "Dracula", but since I am already behind schedule and read - by chance - a book about someone, who is a horse by day and a man by night, I thought, it fits, too. (If the guy doesn't leave the house in time, the horse even goes bump in the doorframe.): My Lady Jane
- What's the scariest book that you've ever read?
Ghost Girl. I read it, when I was 16 and was so scared I begged my mother to let me sleep with her. I think it was so scary, because there was no supernatural about that story. Just human beings being outrageously inhuman in treating their kids. Plots that deal with history or weave stories around people who suffered / existed in real life affect me the most.
- What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about? What creatures of the night do you find most frightening?
The book is about shapeshifters in Elizabethian times. Most of them can control their change, but some change with the setting / rising of the sun. Not creepy at all. The book is rather funny/silly/sysuppy. The creatures that bother me most are deal-demanding demons and djinn, I think. Those you cannot predict.
- What else gives you the chills?
Psychological thrillers. Basically the scary human being.

Elite
- What's the scariest book that you've ever read?
I've read several by Stephen King, and I can't say which was the most scary because they all were very creepy.
- What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about? What creatures of the night do you find most frightening?
The book I read for this week had many different creatures that the hero of the book had to fight against. It's not a horror-type book, but the descriptions make them sound pretty creepy. One was a super-giant spider, and there were others that had snake bodies and 4-6 arms.
- What else gives you the chills?
I find a lot of different things scary, but the things that are the most scary to me are the things that could really happen (like Silence of the Lambs).

- What's the scariest book that you've ever read? It
- What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about? What creatures of the night do you find most frightening? "Erik", the opera ghost, who looks like a corpse without his mask. I'm more scared of real people (criminals, I mean) than any fantasy creatures. The crime rate in my hometown has skyrocketed...I'm glad I moved!!
- What else gives you the chills? Spiders, definitely spiders, lol

It - Stephen King (Actually more like the past 2 & a half weeks... it's a damn long book!)
- What's the scariest book that you've ever read?
Almost certainly this one -I don't read much horror though
- What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about? What creatures of the night do you find most frightening?
Erm... it's hard to describe IT, but it often takes the form of a killer/canabalistic clown... so yeah, definitely what you would classify *it* as.
- What else gives you the chills?
I hate those movies with things that jump out at you. They always get me!
And things like Saw which are just really gruesome and gross...

The Halloween Tree. I wasn't planning on reading this, but I couldn't resist a book of the month that fits into a prompt that I still had open/flexible.
What's the scariest book that you've ever read?
By far, Little Girls.
What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about? What creatures of the night do you find most frightening?
At the time that I'm posting this, I'm only about halfway through the book. So far, the characters have encountered a mummy, a whole bunch of bugs, and a creepy skeletal person coming out of a leaf pile.
As for which creature I find most frightening, definitely ghosts.
What else gives you the chills?
Psychological horror/thrillers, bugs, child psychopaths, basically any really scary movie, deep water (thanks to former co-workers who threw me into the water repeatedly at the beach when I couldn't swim!)

- What's the scariest book that you've ever read?
"The Monkey", short story by King with alive toy. Creeeepy!
- What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about? What creatures of the night do you find most frightening?
It's about a undead girl (like in "rising from the grave") that can see supernatural stuff (ghosts, killers, etc). I think I'd be very disturbed if I could see ghosts.
- What else gives you the chills?
Usually, people. Also, dolls (Chucky trauma survivor here).

I read Sharp Objects
What's the scariest book that you've ever read?
Ooooh I have no idea. I read a lot of scary books. I think Michael Grant's Gone series as a whole has been pretty terrifying. I actually had a nightmare after I binge-read the first 4 novels.
What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about?
Serial killers. I read a lot about ghosts and vampires and zombies regularly, so I thought I'd try something a little different. Plus I'm more scared of serial killers than I am of the former because serial killers actually exist.
What creatures of the night do you find most frightening?
People. People are the scariest fucking things in the world.
What else gives you the chills?
And trees. All plants, really. I always have these weird dreams of them being alive and grabbing me with their branches and vines and shit o_O

- What's the scariest book that you've ever read?
Hmm not sure, something Stephen King, maybe The Shining

Humans after nuclear war, people themselves are turning out to be the scariest thing after the initial destruction.
- What else gives you the chills?
Creepy Crawlers like spiders and bugs

What's the scariest book that you've ever read? 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King
What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about? Demons from Hell
What creatures of the night do you find most frightening? Dead children
What else gives you the chills? Spiders

This week I will be reading Carrie by Stephen King.
- What's the scariest book that you've ever read?
The Woman in Black was fairly creepy. The Comfort of Strangers is also creepy but in a "WTF????" way.
- What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about? What creatures of the night do you find most frightening?
I have seen the film Carrie so I believe it is about a teenage girl with telekinesis who is bullied at school and emotionally abused by her Christian Fundamentalist fire-and-brimstone mother. Eventually she snaps and wreaks havoc on all those who have been plaguing her.
I am not particularly bothered by creatures of the night now but as a child I used to have a recurring nightmare based on the scene in the film ET when Elliot and ET first encounter each other in the long grass.
- What else gives you the chills?
Clowns. Old-fashioned porcelain dolls. Poor spelling and grammar.

I read The Halloween Tree
- What's the scariest book that you've ever read?
I don't read many scary horror type books, so I will say The Handmaid's Tale, as that scenario can really happen one day.
- What "thing that goes bump in the night" are you reading about?
There is a mysterioius figure that takes 8 boys on a scary journey through time.
What creatures of the night do you find most frightening?
Clowns! They are so scary.
- What else gives you the chills?
Lizards, they really freak me out.

The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey

I honestly don't know. I guess It by Stephen King? I did not like it at all and didn't feel particularly scared by it, though... just grossed out.

Zombies. I haven't gotten to where they reveal that yet, but I have read enough reviews of this to guess...
What creatures of the night do you find most frightening?
Zombies.
What else gives you the chills?
Evil tyrants/government bureaucracies. Possibly aliens? Yes, definitely aliens. And ghosts, maybe.
