Sam (aramsamsam) | 224 comments Heidi has been nominated for the past couple months but never won a poll. If you're still into reading this children's classic, leave a comment. The month I'm aiming at is January, just in case Heidi wins the January poll. If it does, this buddy read will blend in with the regular read and this thread will be laid to rest. If Heidi does not make it, we'll have plenty of time to get our copies and set up a reading plan, if you so wish.
That's it for the moment, leave me a comment if you want to join, if you voted for Heidi, or if you have any advice since I'm doing this for the first time :)

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1685 comments I'm game to read Heidi in January.

Sure. I read this as a little girl, I will be interested to see how my perspective has changed.

Pink | 5491 comments Glad you've set this up Sam...perhaps January will finally be it's month, but it has just missed out several times now. I'll be setting up January polls this morning, so we'll have a couple of weeks to find out!

As for advice doing a buddy read...you've done the hard bit, creating the thread, now just look forward to having fun reading and discussing :)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) I'd love to read Heidi! I used to read it over and over as a child.

Which adaption do you mean, Rachid? I must admit, I've never seen one, I grew up with the anime series. It was very popular when I was 4 :)

Philina | 1085 comments The cartoon one? I grew up with that one as well!

But I also remember two films with real actors. One of those was a wee bit strange, though. They flipped the "antagonist"; Fräulein Rottenmeier was the friendly one to Heidi and Klara very mean.

I think the normal Heidi movie I watched was this one:

Niles (professorx2) | 35 comments I wouldn't mind reading this. I saw the television movie, but I was very young then and don't remember much. That TV movie became famous (or infamous) among American Football fans:

Lol! Great cast by the way. It's hilarious how many Heidi adaptation exist.

I know! How awesome is that? I feel like a book activist :D
- I checked back and it is now tied with Dostoyevsky. WHO did this?! Just kidding.

If everyone here comes for the buddy read it will almost be as if it had been chosen. :)

Sam (aramsamsam) | 224 comments Someone changed their vote and thereby made us very happy - Heidi is now first with 27 votes, Borthers Karamasov comes second with 25.
Thank you, unknown reader!

message 26: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Still first with 29 votes.....Brothers K has 27...

message 27: by Loretta (last edited Nov 30, 2015 06:11AM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Loretta | 2200 comments Well I figured since there was so much campaigning going on for Heidi I would start campaigning for my nominated book, The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky! LOL! Come on members! We need your votes for The Brothers Karamazov!!

Sarah | 468 comments Heidi is on my 2016 challenge list, so even if it should miss out on the win I am in!

Sam (aramsamsam) | 224 comments Loretta wrote: "Well I figured since there was so much campaigning going on for Heidi I would start campaigning for my nominated book, The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky! LOL..."

I doubt you're on the right thread for this, Loretta. We root for Heidi ;)

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1685 comments I think we rooted for Heidi, but not campaigned for Heidi I don't think, unless I'm mistaken.

Loretta | 2200 comments Come on people, it's a joke! I didn't mean to ruffle anyone's Heidi's feathers! :)

Loretta | 2200 comments Sam wrote: "Loretta wrote: "Well I figured since there was so much campaigning going on for Heidi I would start campaigning for my nominated book, The Brothers Karamazov by [author:Fyodor Dostoyevs..."

Oh, and Sam, I can be on whatever thread I want to be because the last time I checked, I'm a member of this group. :)

Try not to lose your sense of humor, Loretta. I believe you started out all in good fun? Both books can be read by anyone who wishes at any time, with or without a vote.

Loretta | 2200 comments Sara wrote: "Loretta wrote: "Sam wrote: "Loretta wrote: "Well I figured since there was so much campaigning going on for Heidi I would start campaigning for my nominated book, The Brothers Karamazov..."

Right you are Sara! And it was all in good fun. Sorry if I offended you. Peace out!

message 35: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments I like the passionate feelings, I think we all mean things in a friendly way! I agree that both books are worthy winners. I have very diplomatically refrained from voting for Old School this time, as I really don't plan on reading any of the nominated books.

I'll be glad to see Heidi win, as it's been second or third place so many times. We've seen this happen with lots of books this past year, eventually they seem to win in the end.

Either way, Heidi will happen in January now!

Loretta, if Brothers K does miss out again, how about considering a buddy read for that one, as I suspect it will also get some interest. Or else, give it another nomination for Feb and see what happens....mind you, still a few hours for it to sneak back into first place yet!

Loretta | 2200 comments Pink wrote: "I like the passionate feelings, I think we all mean things in a friendly way! I agree that both books are worthy winners. I have very diplomatically refrained from voting for Old School this time, ..."

Thanks for your suggestions Pink. Since I don't do buddy reads maybe I'll nominate The Brothers Karamazov again or maybe I'll just refrain from nominating anything for a while. I'm sorry you had to get involved in something so trivial. I was joking. Plain and simple. Thanks again.

message 37: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments No problem Loretta, I think we all mean things in a lighthearted and friendly way here, just sometimes things get lost in translation. I know all the comments above were in a jokey, tongue in cheek way, by everyone. Forums can be the worst for not conveying the fun tone intended, as it depends on how everyone reads the comment! I see it all the time, but I think we all want to be friends here :)

As for Brothers K, definitely, definitely re-nominate! I have spent multiple months nominating and seconding books in the past, sometimes after several tries I will admit defeat and just read alone, or see if anyone else wants to read with me. I think in this case Brothers K has been coming a close second a few times, so there is definitely enough interest for a group read.

And as for Heidi.......it WON!!!!!! (Bet it would't have if you hadn't planned the buddy read Sam!)

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1685 comments Loretta, I don't mean to give any harm or offense, but I just wondered/ why you don't do buddy-reads?

The reason why I ask, is that since joining GR I'm seriously addicted to group reads AND buddy reads.

I'm just curious about a different perspective on buddy reads since i think you do feel differently.

I was absolutely not offended. I took your comment and others as meant light-heartedly. I just got the sense the conversation wasn't going that way in the end. Pink's comments are an exact reflection of my feelings. I have tackled and given up on Bros K in the past, I would love to do it with a group. Maybe February will be the time.

message 40: by Sam (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sam (aramsamsam) | 224 comments Looks like I missed all the aciton :) I certainly didn't mean any offense. This is a group of bookish friends, right?

So, Heidi made the poll. This means it will be an official read and this thread is obsolete. You were great, I really didn't expect this to turn out as it did!
I wish you all a great time reading or rereading Heidi in January! I'm so looking frward to it.
