Tara Bates | 1008 comments Has anyone seen any? Might be nice to get a thread of them. Personally I won't do another book a week challenge next year because I have way too many on my tbr list! But I'd love to do a 12-15 prompt challenge of some sort.

message 2: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (kiik) | 158 comments I feel the same. I may keep the 52-book goal for myself, but one prompt per week has been pretty rough.

message 3: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments I did it (almost, 2.5 books left) and enjoyed it for the most part. It definitely got me to read books I never would have and some I've always wanted to but never got around to. But with a toddler a book a week is very challenging and so I wasn't able to read anything that I couldn't fit into a prompt. I would even do somewhat more challenging prompts but much fewer of them!

Miki Mackennedy | 20 comments I am keeping my eye open for one as well. While I didn't love every category, I did like that I read things that I would not have typically chosen. If you hear of any, please loop me in.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I've collected a ton of books (over 100) this year to read for 2016 and 2017 (I'm a bit of a slow reader). I heard that a lot of authors of colour, particularly women, don't often get read, so I made it my goal to get a variety of books from women of colour authors. I don't know if that's a challenge, but it certain sounds like one.

message 6: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 736 comments I'm betting we'll see one in mid to late december, once we get a little closer to the near year. I'm not sure I'd do another 52-book challenge, but I did really like the challenge. I might do it again but allow myself to use books for 2 or 3 prompts.

message 7: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments I guess I could do that Jackie lol but I definitely want different prompts!!

message 8: by Amy (new)

Amy B | 7 comments I was just browsing groups and there is a 2016 Reading Challenge group that has created their own prompts. I guess, there was another group doing the same Popsugar challenge, and they voted for a new set of 52 prompts for 2016. Looks interesting...

message 9: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Thanks I'll take a look!!

message 10: by Angela (new)

Angela | 27 comments Hi Amy - what is the group called? I've had a look and I can't seem to find it. Thanks!

message 11: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments I looked too and couldn't find it

message 12: by Angela (new)

Angela | 27 comments By the way - this challenge ROCKS!

message 13: by Amy (new)

Amy B | 7 comments It's called "Around the Year in 52 Books". https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

message 14: by Sara (new)

Sara I wasn't planning to do another 52 book challenge, but I do like the list of prompts for that group! Many of them seem a bit more flexible to me than this challenge was (there are always exceptions of course!).

message 15: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (kiik) | 158 comments Yeah, that challenge does actually look pretty good. Hmm, we shall see.

message 16: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) We could always make up our own...

message 17: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I checked the challenge and I wasn't sure. (What on earth is the Rory Gilmore challenge and who is Rory Gilmore?)

I've been thinking about this and I was just going to take last year's challenge and change it somewhat. Just thinking out loud...

message 18: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Gilmore girls lol Rory is seen or said to be reading a load of books and someone listed them, the Rory Gilmore challenge is to read as many of them as you can.

message 19: by Tara (new)

message 20: by Sarah (new)

Sarah That challenge looks good... I'm tempted!

message 21: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) And how on earth would you get a list of the books she's reading? And why would anyone care?

message 22: by Megan (new)

Megan (megabou) | 64 comments I guess fans of the show care. Personally, I never watched the show; however, I have seen the list of books that was mentioned in the series. It's easy to find by googling it , and there are over 300 books to choose from.

message 23: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments It has some pretty intense fan girls :) I liked and watched the show but I know some people who probably could tell you what episode she was seen carrying the shadow of the wind ;)

message 24: by Meghan (new)

Meghan (molacher) | 15 comments I just saw Pop Sugar posted their 2016 list!

Thanks for posting this! I was wondering if they were going to do another one.

message 26: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Thanks for posting! I'm not sure what to do, I might just let myself use books for up to like 3 prompts or something but not sure if I want to do that one, the one on that group is good :)

message 27: by Angela (new)

Angela | 27 comments Hmmm... What to do? I might keep the pop sugar list for 2017, in case they don't do one that year. Love the choices I have to make!

message 28: by Angela (new)

Angela | 27 comments Or maybe do the pop sugar one in 2016 and the other one on 2017?

message 29: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments I think I'm going to make my own list of 20 that I think are interesting from both lists, my goal will be probably around 30-35 (just in case I get stuck and I don't really want to stress about reading in case I get pregnant, I get veeeeery sick and have no attention span for reading) but I'll give myself fewer prompts so I don't feel like I "can't" read a book I really want to like I did this year.

message 30: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (kiik) | 158 comments Ahh, it's so hard to decide! Knowing myself, though, I'm sure I'll end up doing the Popsugar challenge again.

message 31: by Meghan (new)

Meghan (molacher) | 15 comments Katherine wrote: "Ahh, it's so hard to decide! Knowing myself, though, I'm sure I'll end up doing the Popsugar challenge again."

I am waffling too. I really enjoyed this challenge and definitely went outside my comfort zone but my unread pile got huge. I want the option to read what I want to read. There are couple prompts on this one that matched the 2015 one so I might start by eliminating those.

message 32: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Ok I created a new group, I can't copy and paste the url on my phone but I'll do that a bit later, it is linked in the discussion thread "anyone interested?"
I've posted a list of prompts and the challenge is to choose your own prompts and you decide the number. It creates a group setting for people to discuss prompts etc but gives a bit more flexibility for people who don't want to do as many or who like most of the prompts but want to swap some out. Check it out if you're interested!

message 33: by Ray (new)

Ray Jordan (rjordan1041) As much as I enjoyed this challenge, I don't think I could do it again. I'll be lucky if I finish this challenge (I have 3 books left). However, this challenge showed my what I could accomplish and it gave me a chance to read books I normally wouldn't pick for myself.

message 34: by Juanita (new)

Juanita (juanitav) | 744 comments Either I can't count or the 2016 PopSugar challenge is only 40 books.

message 35: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Oh yeah, 41 because of the "a book and it's prequel"

message 36: by Neptunalia (new)

Neptunalia (wxguesser1800) Juanita wrote: "Either I can't count or the 2016 PopSugar challenge is only 40 books."

I just noticed that, too. I think fewer books will enable more people to complete the challenge.

Juanita, since you're a mod, do you know if this group/page will continue on with the 2016 Challenge?

message 37: by Juanita (new)

Juanita (juanitav) | 744 comments I was thinking I could open a new group if there was interest.

message 38: by Kaci (new)

Kaci | 67 comments I actually really like that it's 40 books. I'm still going to set a reading goal of 50 but I'll have 10 that I can read anything I want and still enjoy the checklist aspect of the pop sugar challenge.

Yippee!!

Kirsten (kmcripn) Juanita wrote: "I was thinking I could open a new group if there was interest."

Can't you just rename this one? You could archive all the threads that deal with 2015 and move on to 2016. Or is it less work to have another group?

Whatever you decide I'm in!

message 41: by Krista (new)

Krista I belong to a facebook group that did the PopSugar challenge last year. This year we have a few challenges to choose from, including the new popSugar list and/or our own list: https://www.facebook.com/groups/37550...

message 42: by Juanita (new)

Juanita (juanitav) | 744 comments I've never actually had any training but I can sure try renaming it. I at least do know how to archive. Hmmm...

message 43: by Megan (new)

Megan (mghrt06) | 546 comments Prior to seeing the prompts I would have said that I wasn't going to do a 2016 challenge. However, quickly looking at the popsugar list I think I can fit in some of the books I was already going to read in 2016 in there anyways. Might as well sprinkle in some different books. Plus, I've loved being able to talk to you guys and doing weekly check-ins.

But, first thing first - gotta finish up the 2015 one! hehe!

You are a genius! Turns out, like He-Man, I do have the power! Woo hoo!

Elizabeth hey just thought you might want to check this web site out , those different reading challenges list, here the link: http://jlshall.blogspot.com/2015/11/r...
the web site is called A Little Reading: Reading Challenges for 2016, she even has a list on her blog.

message 46: by Megan (new)

Megan (megabou) | 64 comments I decided to go for it and do two separate group challenges this year. The Popsugar one and the one made up by the group mentioned above. I will not count books twice within the same challenge, but will overlap books between the two. My goal is to read as many books as possible, so I will only overlap when I get towards to end. I decided to do it after some of the prompts complimented each other with the books I have picked. I have already planned out my reading list for the other challenge, and plan to read Dawn and Day by Elie Weisel from the Night trilogy. I haven't read Night since high school, so it will be the perfect book for the high school prompt.

message 47: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I am planning on several challenges this year. I don't know how well I'll do. But we'll see.

I plan on participating in the 2016 Ultimate Challenge. (Maybe I'll have better luck doing 40 books than 52.)

I also plan on reading 75,000 pages this year as well as total book count of 225 books.

I also want to read at least 30 classics (over 50 years old) and 30 books found on the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die list.

I have put down a goal of 25 books for the GCAC-2016 challenge, since I think I can better my achievement of only 14 last year.

I also have a goal of reading at least 12 NEW RELEASES this year. It seems every year I haven't read hardly any of the nominees for the Goodreads Choice Awards.

In addition to the standard A-Z Challenge and Color Challenge, I will also do a US States Challenge and a UN Member States (I made that one up) Challenge.

Good Luck!

I'm only doing the popsugar one and when I complete that I'll finish the year with Around The Year. I am allowing over lap for prompts between the two - some of the prompts are the same (if not very similar).

What is GCAC, if I may ask?

message 49: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 6 comments I'm doing the bookriot read harder challenge as I love it, their sister site panels has one for graphic novels and comics too. Bit of a junkie here and putting books on as many different challenges as possible here. The bustle challenge looks quite good and is only 20 items and the group 500 great books by women has a challenge for reading books by women of colour this year. I saw someone mention it above.

message 50: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Lol I'm doing the same thing almost, I started my own challenge group on goodreads (the 2016 choose your own challenge challenge) where we took a bunch of challenges' prompts and chose as many as we wanted for ourselves. But I can't help but still check off as many from here as I can lol
