Millie Bicknelle | 10 comments I was just wondering what your top 5 books are off the top of your head, along with a word to inspire each of them? Don't take too long, just the first books that come to mind! I'd love some amazing recommendations and you can look at what everyone else posts as ideas for your Christmas lists! :)

Here are mine:
1) Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling - my everything
2) The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern - magical
3) The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - inspiring
4) Gypsy Boy by Mikey Walsh - eye-opening
5) The Outcast by Sadie Jones - heartbreaking

p.s. Sorry for any incorrect spellings of the authors names - I'm just writing this off the top of my head! :)

Love Millie

Ash (ashiew) This is a fun idea :)

1) Sugar Queen by Sarah Adison Allen - sweet
2) Brave Story by Miyuki Miyabi - fun adventure
3) Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane - suspenseful
4) The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern -magical
5) Alabama Moon by Watt Key - childhood fav

That was kind of hard to do off the top of my head xD But I like the choices I made. It was hard to choice which ones to put. I can't wait to see other people's lists :)

*edit* looking back at this now in 2016 I feel like this list has changed for me xD*

Sarah (littlerah) | 37 comments So difficult oh my goodness.

1. The Book Thief - Markus Zusak -insightful
2. 13 Reasons Why - Jay Asher - emotional
3. Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend - Matthew Green/Dicks -innocent
4. The Rest of Us Just Live Here - Patrick Ness -hopeful
5. All The Bright Places - Jennifer Niven - raw.

I decided one off books are the easiest to go with in regards to favourites for myself. I read a lot of series' but sometimes a single book is a good place to start!

message 4: by Sophia (new)

Sophia Monteiro | 13 comments 1)The help by kathryn Stocett light hearted/inspired
2) Water for Elephants by Sarah Gruen twisted
3) The Secret life of bees by sue monk Kidd uplifting
4) Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens thrilling
5) Les Miserables by Victor Hugo thought provoking

Ok so for my first favorite book I used two words to describe it cause I felt like one didn't quite get at what I wanted to say so sorry I broke the rules but yeah all of my favorite books, this was a lot harder than I though it was going to be.

message 8: by Ramona (new)

Ramona (monakersch) | 9 comments My top 5 [so far]:

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - thought provoking
We Were Liars by E.Lockhart - cryptic
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion - hilarious
Gut gegen Nordwind (Love Virtually) by Daniel Glattauer - brilliantly witty
Life Without Limits by Nick Vujicic - encouraging

by the way, great idea Millie ;)

message 9: by Freya (new)

Freya Tewnion | 42 comments 1) Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige - magical/suspenseful
2) Heist Society novels by Ally Carter - genius/mysterious
3) I'd tell you I Love you but then I'd have to Kill You (and the rest in the series) by Ally Carter - brilliant
4) Matched series by Ally Condie - insightful/beautiful
5) Dead Girls Walking by Suzy Cox - funny/cliff-hanger

I did two opinions for each because I couldn't sum any of them up in one word and I chose a few series because they were all amazing. The last book is actually the second book in the series but I preferred that one more than the first because I think it was better written and there was more suspense at the end.

3) Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
4) Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

message 27: by Proxima (new)

Proxima Centauri I don't have a top 5, but I think Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a MUST READ. It's chilling.

And Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo is also worth a read but that's only if you're patient with long, tedious, complex books with way too much background information about French history.

Georgie Davey | 11 comments (I don't think I've responded to this yet... Haha Hard to keep up)

4) The Tortall stories by Tamora Pierce (yet another great YA writer)
5 TIED) Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
5 TIED) One Day by David Nicholls

message 29: by Georgie (new)

Georgie Davey | 11 comments Chloe - it's definitely for a slightly older audience than pre-teen. I'd say the youngest you should be reading One Day to properly appreciate it is 16. It's just one of those books which can be a little slow but the plot is amazing once you get hooked!
