Madeleine Myers | 751 comments I've had two recent experiences of Gregorian chant being used in Church. A good lifelong friend of mine--we went through 12 grades of Catholic schools together--recently passed away, and her services were held in the chapel of the Catholic retirement community where she had lived. The priest who officiated brought up the fact that many of us had grown up with Gregorian chant and the Latin Mass, and incorporated parts of both in his service. Very well received by those of us who remembered.

Then I attended my parish's Lenten reconciliation service, which, our being a rather large parish, always involves a long wait, even with nine priests hearing confessions. Throughout the session, Gregorian chant played in the background. Very comforting and calming. I, too, miss it.
