Renee Let's chat in here so we don't scare newbies when they introduce themselves. :D

message 2: by Ellie (new)

Ellie | 34 comments So I have a question that may or may not be easy to answer. I tutor a fifth grade boy who hates to read and on top of that he has ADHD, so does anybody have any book recommendations that he would possibly like or not hate?

message 3: by Renee (new)

Renee Hmm,probably something with action and that's funny. In fact, have you tried making him read Percy Jackson? It's got that easy language and has scenes about action and stuff which would be kinda good.

message 4: by Ellie (new)

Ellie | 34 comments I did try Percy Jackson and to my amazement he wasn't entertained with it. I figured that he also might be able to relate to it a little bit since demigods have ADHD, but apparently not.

Why don't you try asking him what he would like to know more about?

You can also watch him and see what he is into.

Start with little books and after a while give him books with more pages.

You can try reading at loud, or you can read him one chapter and then he'll read you the next chapter. (Usually when someone doesn't want to read tends to read in order to let the other person read so he/she can stop reading for a while)

Also, during the book or after or both ways you can comment the book and let him talk about it, if he wants you can even try to go and play outside because he accomplished something.

Or you can even try making a book report with him, like cutting pictures from a magazine and telling him which character the picture represents, make a song, dance a long, etc.

Good luck, but most of all have fun :)

lol, YA books are growing on me, I can stop reading them :P

message 7: by Renee (new)

Renee Me either! I think I will read them forever because I connect with them so much. :D

Bookloverhugger aka:Rebecca | 936 comments It fascinates me how Authors can write such brill books!

message 9: by Renee (new)

Renee IKR??? BUT OMG EDITING!?!?!? Editing must be so hard, getting rid of favourite parts, cutting it down, re-writing what you've written and thought was your baby.

*experiencing*

message 10: by Renee (new)

Renee (renspill) | 22 comments It would be amazing to be an editor because you get to read the original versions of books and help the authors make big decisions.

message 11: by Renee (new)

Renee :D yes it would be. But it also would be kinda pressure-able because the world is relying on you to make this story better and still keep the original plot line etc. etc. and basically telling the author if they did good or bad.

Oh my goodness, you are so right! Editing is REALLY hard! I've been editing for over a year, and I'm still not done! And being an editor would be hard, especially if you care about people's feelings.

Ellie | 34 comments Ok, so young adult bookworms is the group we are currently in right now and it doesn't have buddy reading yet. If you join another group they may have buddy reading.

Bookloverhugger aka:Rebecca | 936 comments Where do u find it?

message 33: by Renee (new)

Renee here I'll just post the link:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 34: by Sikhandi, Founder (new)

Sikhandi Thiagarajah | 494 comments Mod
People would it be illegal to create a topic with free online movie links to the corresponding books?

message 35: by Ellie (new)

Ellie | 34 comments Technically, watching movies that you should pay for are illegal. I don't see how putting the links would be exactly harmful or against theaw, but I'm pretty sure most of us watch free movies anyways

message 40: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiejh) | 45 comments Hey!
Hope everyone's having a good weekend!!
Any good books turning into movies this year or next?
(I've read Fault in Our Stars and Divergent)

message 41: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiejh) | 45 comments Thanks :) I'll add it to my list :)

Bookloverhugger aka:Rebecca | 936 comments ohhh, the maze runner yeh... when is that coming out again, coz im so gonna see it. the trailers look quite good too...

Bookloverhugger aka:Rebecca | 936 comments no idea. i haven't read it yet. But i probably will go see the film-whenever that comes out-but i know you can read it online for free

message 44: by Renee (new)

Renee I have to read that book too. *sigh* so many books....

message 45: by Renee (new)

Renee *shrug* I'd say keep it up until about chapter 5 or 6 and then decide, sometimes the opening chapters can get to you, but just go a bit further before you decide.
But that's just my opinion. If you feel like you really aren't enjoying it now, put it down by all means. :)

message 46: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiejh) | 45 comments Let me know if it picks up, if it doesn't I won't bother with it.

Bookloverhugger aka:Rebecca | 936 comments Same over here let mwa know. I think there are lots of characters, judging from the trailers anyways

message 48: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiejh) | 45 comments Sounds good, I'll have to read them!

Bookloverhugger aka:Rebecca | 936 comments i might just read it nearer the film release date

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)
