Charles Hash | 1054 comments “Publishing today is a complete mess. I know brilliant authors who can’t get their books published,” Moore says, explaining that many publishing houses are afraid of taking risks on fiction. Moore’s solution? “Publish yourself. Don’t rely upon other people.”

Sweet. I'm going for it, then.

And I'm not relyin' on nobody. Doin' my own editing and covers and everything. BANZAI!

Charles Hash | 1054 comments I'm guessing you guys don't know who Alan Moore is.

#hipsterglasses

I think it's pretty cool of him to come out and say this. Makes me want to have a beer with him.

Charles Hash | 1054 comments Alan Moore (born 18 November 1953) is an English writer primarily known for his work in comic books including Watchmen, V for Vendetta, and From Hell. Frequently described as the best graphic novel writer in history, he has been called "one of the most important British writers of the last fifty years". He has occasionally used such pseudonyms as Curt Vile, Jill de Ray, Translucia Baboon and The Original Writer.

You guys are so sillies.

Charles Hash | 1054 comments I have a lot of respect for him, but you can have him. ;)

Charles Hash | 1054 comments Isn't he pretty much the guy that paved the way for writers like Neil Gaiman to break in? Carrying the Lovecraft torch a little.

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) I don't think it's so much that Ann and Dwayne don't know who he is as much as they were saying what I was thinking when I saw the article: "Been there, done that, and literally have the tshirt."

Same here. I know exactly what I'm looking for and how to achieve it. It has nothing to do with the fact that I can't afford any service more expensive than free. Nope, nothing at all...

'Course I know. I've read Watchmen a time or two. And it is nice to see a famous author encouraging the Indie route.

Mary Criswell-Carpenter | 44 comments I didn't have a clue but was happy for the endorsement of indie publishing.

April Wilson (aprilwilson) The article says it all: "It’s rare and refreshing for an established writer to promote the potential boons of self-publishing and be honest about their perception of what lies behind the industry curtain."

This is big. This is acknowledgement from an influential source that a sea change in publishing is well underway. I'm thrilled to be part of that sea change. :)
