Davina D. | 796 comments Yeah, I'm loads interested in people's personal style too. It's like I was telling Danielle the other day about married couples with that glow of happiness. Most people I've come across in life are composed and savvy, with an air of self-confidence. But some others? They're naturally insecure and cowardly, and it somehow shows in their personal style. Sometimes their low self-esteem is so blatant, it affects the way they dress and make them stick out like a sore thumb amongst people who're more confident in themselves and their abilities. It really makes me feel so bad for these poor things.

Davina D. | 796 comments Oh sorry, I forgot to add my personal style. I forgot in the process of recalling how those poor inconfident people leave a lasting impression with how they dress. I recently met a woman who just blew my mind in that regard. This might sound a little harsh of me, but seriously if you'd met her too, I'm sure you'd feel the same way.

Anyway ... my personal style. Well, my hubby would tell yah I like deep earthy tones (burgundies, dark green, rouge etc) which compliment my skin and my deep scorpio side (sorry can't help it! For those of you who don't believe feel free to laugh at my nonsense) and for my firey Sag side I like to show a little skin a la the pic posted! :) But not too much of course ... I'm suppose to be a respectable married, professional woman with two grow kids afterall ... no Madonna complex for me. No ma'am.

My personal style is natural. I like the gypsy blouse look with capri pants, jeans, or cargo pants. I love bright, jewel tones, but I love pastels equally. I tend to wear a lot of earrings. My hair is natural, and I'll wear it in pigtail braids or a long braid, or a chignon. Sometimes I wear it down with a hairband. Since I work in an environment where I cannot wear nice clothes, I try to wear nicer clothes on the weekend.
Shoe-wise, I like sneakers for casual, and baby doll shoes when I want to dress up a little more. I also love loafers for the business casual look.
It's hot as hades here, so I'm wearing a lot of shorts lately. Trying to back down on my trademark t-shirts and do the girly thing.

I wear silver rimmed oval glasses, and very little (most of the time no) makeup.

When I was in practice and teaching, my aunt called me the Khaki Queen. I love Khaki pants and a tailored shirt for the professional look. I am not a suit person at all. My look is business casual unless I really have to dress up.

I try to avoid buying any clothing that is trendy, for numerous reasons. First of all, I don't want to have buy new clothes before I want to. Also I don't like fads and trends.

Sometimes I think I have an inner goth girl that hasn't come out yet. I get the bizzare urge to die my hair purple or bright blue.

Sharon Huxford (blackpanthershay) | 970 comments I completely forgot about purses and shoes.
I know what you are saying Maya..I like silver and white gold jewellry..my mother is convinced they gave her the wrong daughter at the hospital because she loves gold lol
I have studs and hoops..the ones that look like hula hoops are ridiculous lol
I love big handbags..so much that it takes me 5 mins to find my lip gloss, gum etc etc
I like heels, in the last year though I have started to like loafers and mary janes

I wear my hair in twists or afros, or twists outs, this week I am wearing a natural mowhawk :)
I wear make up to church, or a wedding and that is a little powder or something just for the shine
I like mascara and eyeshadow..I have one eyeshadow colour..blue(my fave colour)..I bought a bronze but there it sits lol
I do not like showing my arms and stuff..I feel naked..i wish more dresses would be made with cap sleeves so then I don't have to worry about my arms and my breasts

It will take my mother an hour and half- two hours to do her hair and make up just to go grocery shopping because " A woman should always look her best when in public." Which is why she hates my style of dress. I'm 42 yrs old I can dress anyway I want.

Well, back in high school I never left the house without makeup. Now I only wear it occasionally. My hair has always been short for practical purposes but I try to keep up with current short styles.

Traci | 6 comments Personal style...hmm. Well, my personal style is simple. I love sweat shorts/pants...love them but I also love skirts, dresses and fitted pants. I wear heals...alll types but also love my Birkenstocks...funky colors like lime green and bright red. I also love my new ones with beading and embroidery. I love shoes and will spent a few dollars on them...but strangely I don't on purses. My hair is recently cut super short so I wear big ear rings....love hoops and large stones. Not big on necklaces...but they are growing on me.
When I dress up...I am usually in a fitted dress...or fitted pair of pants....work hard to keep the butt in shape.

I shop in Target, Talbots, Anne Taylor, Coldwater Creek, J. Jill and Eddie Bauer.

Hey, Debbie I shop at Wal-Mart too. You can find some nice clothes there for a very good price. Target has the worst plus-size section in my opinion. Lane Bryant has gotten too trendy. I used to shop there when they had sales, now I don't find much that I want to buy there.

It shows that you're a writer. You describe things very well. Now I have a very clear mental picture of you in my mind. You're a cute one aren't you? No wonder you like those cutie pies ... lol. Just teasin'. :)

I tend to swim against the current when it comes to fashion as well. I like being casually elegant. I work extremely well with colours, earthy ones more so than very bright ones. Burgundies, blackberry purple, maroon blue, blood red and I love green. Deep earthy green. I like yellow too, but its a tricky colour. It works well on very few people imo. I also make it my business not to wear too much black. In my profession, it's easy to see an overabundance of black and deep dark blues. As a result all my work clothes are infused in part or fully with colour. Always. Sometimes I'll pop into a little black dress to humour my husband, but otherwise I try to avoid plain black anything.

I don't wear pants a lot. Mostly skirts publicly and privately, but when I do I prefer linen trousers to jeans because they're so airy and light. I'll do the dresses in the spring and summer times, but I have fairly broad shoulders so only halter dresses seem to work for me. I'd love to wear more shorts, but I just don't have the body to flatter a good pair. I think shorts can look great on women who have a neat, well-portioned hourglass figure (especially if they have a nice butt), but to me they look better on those lean atlethic type of women with longer limbs. I guess I could do the shorts because I'm not fat (just over 140lbs), but having children widens the hips, pushing it out of line with the shoulders. Tja ... I'll wear shorts when I tend to my garden but not to go out. I'd rather do the capri pants or the linen.

Not very big on jewellry (except for my wedding ring and stubs) or too many accessories, but detail is important to me. The outfit can be plain, but there has to be some little detail to make it stand out. For eg, back in her hayday, my mother would wear a simple but elegant pair of pants and a nice blouse, but she loved jazzing up her outfits by wearing these unique, sometimes odd, broaches, belts, scarves and the like. To this day she still has a fur scarf with a racoon's head attached to it. Still sports it around too lol. I definitely got my fashion sense from her (but please all you animal lovers don't hate on me! :). But, and this is where it gets interesting (at least for hubby), I'm always changing my hair. I'm naturally a blonde, but I've never been a blonde for any extended period of time during my adulthood. I told y'all, I just don't like blondes! lol :)

As for shoes, mostly pumps for me and on a few formal occasions stilletos, but wearing stilletos is an art form. I was good at it and wore a lot when I was younger(which is a miracle because I can be a real klutz!) but now I leave it to you young'uns. :)

Purses, I love clutch purses. Though not always very practical, I think they're sexy, lends an air of confidence and very very elegant.

message 42: by Davina (last edited Jul 17, 2009 03:20AM) (new)

Davina D. | 796 comments Wow ... now you ladies have made me feel like I wear too much make up! lol

I wear make-up to work. I work with a bunch of dudes and if you're not always looking sharp, they start with their BS, albeit good-naturedly, thinking you're having a bad day or the claws are about to come out and what not.

Privately, I don't always have to be wearing a base, but mascara and gloss are a must at all times.

As for time it takes to dress. My husband gets annoyed at me when we're going out sometimes, but he's naturally an impatient oaf. By female standards, I'm really not on either extreme. An hour tops to do everything: hair, make-up, clothes. That's not so bad is it girls?

I think for an elegant look, an hour is a good amount of time.

Personally, I'm too impatient to spend more than 1/2 hour getting ready, plus I hate getting up early. I have to get up at 4am, so I have my routine down to a science: 1/2 to get ready, 1/4 hour to loll around before I have to leave for work.

I don't do a lot of jewelry, just earrings (when I'm not working) and my crucifix. If I'm dressing up, I'll put on a nice necklace to match my outfit. But I wear my crucifix pretty much every day since I was in high school. I have my school rings and I just can't wear them. I don't like wearing rings.
