Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy) by Deborah Harkness
"Picking up from A Discovery of Witches’ cliffhanger ending, Shadow of Night takes Diana and Matthew on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew’s old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782 deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew’s past tightens around them, and they embark on a very different—and vastly more dangerous—journey."

I loved this book. I went to the book store and bought the hard copy as soon as it was released. The book made London appear to me in a different light and to look at places differently when wandering the areas mentioned. I drove my poor husband mad constantly asking about places mentioned in the book. I will probably re-read book one and two just before book three is released but these books are still strongly in my mind.
I loved this book, but A Discovery of Witches is my favorite of the two. I'm excited for book three, and I am glad it will be set in present day with all the characters I missed from book one.
I was going to preorder a signed copy of the third book from B & N, but they sold out within an hour. Looks like a lot of people are excited for that one.
