Does anyone else watch this show on mtv??

All of the episodes are online. But anyways..it's definitely a guilty pleasure..but I love it! The last episode made me cry soo much. Anybody else see it?

message 2: by Janet (new)

Janet I've only seen one episode! It is pretty funny though!

Adriana | 188 comments I have only watched 2 episodes. The last one made me cry too. I can't imagine what the couple had to go through, it must have been heart breaking to do that.

They were honestly the most mature of all couples and had a good relationship..and they were the ones that ended up giving the baby up..which was very mature of them considering they new that they couldn't give the baby a good life as young as they were and with the family situation. I thought they were cute together and he was so sweet to her the whole time.

I'm so excited to see the finale. All the mothers will be back to talk about everything.

Did anyone else cry at the last episode? And did anyone watch the follow up with Dr. Drew? Amazing.

Spencer (spencerafreeman) I think this show perpetuates teenage pregnancy- a sort of "Juno" effect that glamourizes teen pregancy. While I give props to MTV for being ahead in the pop culture race and making a show out of this before anyone else, I think that the effects of the show will actually be opposite of what the intentions are. For example- this show is supposed to shed light on the difficulties for teen moms/dads, but I have a feeling that teens watching this will view it in awe and think that if they get knocked up then there is some sort of publicity in it.
I'm not knocking the show or bashing it in anyway, but I just personally feel that the intentions of the show will be skewed to what it was originally meant for.

Annie Hartman (anniebananie) | 242 comments Anastasia: I definitely see where your coming from and Im sure that there will be some people who may thing that- which is sad and rather disturbing because then you have a child in the middle of it.
I do like the show a lot though because it gives different scenerios. For instance, there are some where the family is supportive of the teens, or one family is, one isnt. There was also one girl who was raising the child on her own without a father. And, of course, the couple that gave Carly up for adoption. I know that it is a touchy subject but I think that they should include a story about abortion. I know, I know- very taboo still but it is an option and I think that if they are going to present options they should present them all including joys and sorrows of each decision.

All in all, I would have to support MTV on this one. Yes, the concept could be warped by some but I think that there's only so much high school health class can teach (clearly) and this is a more effective way to present the reality of teen pregnancy.

Spencer (spencerafreeman) I agree with both of you, Annie and Danielle, and I guess in the grand scheme of things I rather they have the show so people can be informed of different scenarios- what they do after seeing the show is up to them.
I also agree with you, Annie, about showing an abortion episode as another method. While it is extremely taboo (then again, so is teen pregnancy in general) I think they need to be realistic in all aspects because there are some teens who would opt for that in this situation.

Annie Hartman (anniebananie) | 242 comments Phew, thanks Anastasia- and Danielle! I wasn't sure how that post would go over- haha

message 13: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (okpurplebutterfly) I'm looking forward to watching Teen Mom. I couldn't have imagined having a child in high school and I'm glad I didn't.

But I knew at least 6 girls in my graduating class that became teen moms. It's kind of sad when the county clinic hands out free condoms...

You mean the health department??? I thought it was standard practice for them to provide free condoms...
