It actually took me about a month to read this book, making it a huge mistake to wait until mid October to start it. I have a lot of catching up to do to finish the challenge as a result. I have some trouble reading books from the 1800s because the writing style was so different back then. I love the authors and novels from this time, but I usually have to read another book in tandem with them so I don't get bogged down with the length and wordiness. That said, I gave Lorna Doone 4 stars. It is a well thought out story with original characters and great plot twists. I loved John Ridd's dry, subtle humor as the narrator of the story. I found some new favorite book quotes, including what I thought was the best one from this book: "The maid has chosen the glittering stars, instead of the plain daylight." Lorna Doone is not an "easy" read, but it is a classic and one I'm glad that I can say I've read.
