In high school our English teacher had given us 10 top studying tools. The one that stuck out was use the same pencil to study that you will to take the test and the pencil "remembers" the answers. The thought behind it was that if you write down notes on what you were studying, then you actually retain the information better than if you just read.
Another one was to break up the time. I think it was 20 minutes. Do not study longer than 20 minutes at a time. Studies show that you retain the info at the beginning and the end but lose the info in the middle. So study 20 minutes, take a 10 or 15 minute break, then repeat.
Not sure if this will help anyone, but those are the only 2 I remember.
