I have not read any of Amy Tan's but I have heard so much about them.

I also think people would love to read some Jane Austin if interested in this type of literature.

Michelle (pinklets) | 23 comments I wouldn't say that this book is similar, but when I read Atonement, I pictured the setting of the books to be the same... is that wierd? Atonement has a more adult and much more tragic subject matter, but they both deal with a young girls confusion about love.

Kathryn | 60 comments Well, the Emily books by LM Montgomery (starting with Emily of New Moon) feature a budding writer and it is part journal entries and part narrative. There are lots of observations about her family life, and later, some romance, etc. though it is generally a much happier story. This is by the author of "Anne of Green Gables" and takes place in about 1920 on up (there are three in the series) on Prince Edward Island. They are some of my favorite novels ever!

That's a great question and I'd be eager for more suggestions!

Me too! I enjoyed this book and really want to read some like it.

Jennifer (JenJen1221) I'll have to second the Jane Austen recommendation. And I want to read the Emily books by L.M. Montgomery...I loved the Anne series.
