Kassey (kclynne) | 18 comments Most of my thoughts are summed up here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
But 5 staaars!
The cotillion girls turned into Palladins was a shock, at first I liked it but when I learned they protected Blythe I was super pissed, and I couldn't believe when she took Bee with her. What a bitch.
Harper and Ryan's breakup we all saw it coming, but I like how it happened. How Ryan had just accepted that she liked David and the relationship had meet it's end, I liked that he was sad, it showed he cared.
I felt the punch had something, and was gonna play part of something but I didn't expect the mind control I expected it to only affect Harper idk.
I have no idea what will happen in the next book I just know I need it NOW!!!

message 52: by irish (new)

irish (rishnicole) I'm glad that they're over seriously Harper is trying too hard to fix it, I mean it stresses her out more. I'll definitely miss Saylor on thew next book. I love how she's so strict but loving at the same time. Just so weird that it was Ryan that she passed the Mage thing on. And Mary Beth's being a whiny little bitch. I really don't like her at all, I'm sorry. The punch thing was very unexpected. I was like, what the eff? Anyways I need the next book. :D

message 54: by Lucas (last edited Apr 19, 2014 08:18AM) (new)

Lucas Coghlan | 1 comments This is one of my favorite books this year. Harper and her crew are awesome and I love to hate Blythe... I kind of figured that Saylor was toast when she got stabbed but I was really looking forward to her transfering her power to Brandon when he was knocked out. I would have loved that. He cracks me up. I think those 3 would have been hilarious working together to get Bee back. Plus, I think I'm over Ryan and I dont really know how I feel about another love triangle situation... Anyway, awesome story.

message 55: by Kinga (new)

Kinga (xzellaz) | 1 comments It was a good read overall. I hated Harper for the first few pages then loved her for the rest. And I don't feel like there was such a big love triangle because Ryan and Harper's relationship wasn't that great and wasn't lovey-dovey at all(for me). I just can't picture Beth with Ryan, I'll seriously hate them both if they do end up together and if Beth doesn't change her 'I hate everything from heels to chimneys!' attitude.

message 56: by Diana (new)

Diana I finished the book and I forgot about this topic. I have to say the book was so good I forgot about everything else. I loved the pacing from the start to the end, except when Ryan became a mage. That just randomly happened, it was foreseeable but I still don't like it. I might be okay with it in the second book if there's no love triangle (please god, no love triangle).
I have to admit I had problems with David. I was bracing myself to hate on him a lot since he was portrayed like a douchy nerd (that doesn't even go together) from the beginning and then suddenly he became a very lovable character. And before he was being so literally evil, only because of the competing with Pres and that one dream?
The plot twists were strong with this one, I loved how unpredictable most of the book was.

message 57: by Yelz (new)

Yelz Galván (starkg) | 3 comments I'm so annoyed at Blythe, I hate her!

message 58: by Freya (new)

Freya Elliott (frazzleselliott) | 10 comments can't believe I'm the only one who loves Ryan. I'm happy that he's going to be a big part of the next book, and won't the other girls eventually realise they have superpowers. I was surprised that Leigh-Anne didn't have anything to so with all this but maybe she will in the next book.

message 59: by Juliet (new)

Juliet (julietflanagan) | 3 comments I don't usually read the acknowledgments at the end of books but something caught my eye that made me take a look at it: ". . . and to my agent, Holly Root, for not blinking an eye when I said the words 'it's like Legally Blonde meets The Terminator!'"

This sums it up exactly!

message 60: by M (last edited Apr 20, 2014 06:14PM) (new)

M (thelasthours) | 1 comments I loved this book!!! I'm not super happy Ryan and Harper broke up because I really liked him, but I guess it had to happen. Also, I really don't want Ryan to go out with Mary Beth. Am I the only one that doesn't like Mary Beth?

message 61: by Juliet (new)

Juliet (julietflanagan) | 3 comments Okay it just hit me! Are we going to have another Lissa (Vampire Academy Series) on our hands in the next book? Because it seems like we're heading in that direction with David being a super oracle now. The power is supposedly going to eat away at his brain and make him go insane (like Lissa's Spirit powers). So he needs to find a Rose (someone to take away a little of the craziness) soon. Could Harper be the one to help him with his powers so he doesn't go insane? #LotionProblems

message 62: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (happy9398) | 13 comments This was an amazing book! The punch part was very surprising to me! I think she should have spent a little more time being single but I'm really glad her and David got together. I hope there isn't going to be a big love triangle fiasco in the next book. But I can't wait for the next one!

message 63: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (thestarlightshelves) I don't think there will be a Ryan-Harper-David love triangle in the next book. That was kind of the romantic plot of this one; Harper figuring out her feelings about each of them. I think we'll have to be worried about David's new powers and finding Bee. I wonder where Blythe took her/what will happen? Since Bee won't let anyone hurt Blythe...

message 64: by R4Reader (new)

Mom2triplets04 | 40 comments Sad that the aunt died. Mad that she gave her power to Ryan. Upset her friend was strollen. Oh no not another sequel. Why can't ya books be stand alones? So annoyed!

message 66: by Crissie (new)

Crissie Wood (ctwood09) | 9 comments I really liked this book. A lot more than I thought I was going to when I first started it. Harper reminds me a bit of myself in high school, so I kind of love her. And I think adding Ryan to the Oracle team is brilliant and going to be such an interesting dynamic in the next book which I would like to have know thank you! I thought Harper and Ryan's break up was perfectly done, really. I felt that they still loved each other, but weren't right for each other and it was just perfectly bitter sweet.

More of my thoughts on my blog: http://ctwood09.blogspot.com/2014/04/...

message 67: by Alla (new)

Alla I loved this book so much!!! I was not expecting it to be this good. I really didn't want the Cotillion girls to be Paladins. That made Harper not that special. I am really happy that Ryan and Harper broke up. I did expect the punch, but I was surprised when Blythe ended up in the room with the Cotillion girls. I'm not sure what will happen in the next books but I'm sure that they will be as good as Rebel Belle and the Hex Hall trilogy. Does anybody know when the second book will come out?

Kaylin (cozynovelsoverload) | 12 comments Ariel wrote: "How did you feel about Mary Beth and the other Cotillion girls? How did you feel about Harper and Ryan's break up? Did you anticipate Blythe's attack? What do you hope will happen in the next book?..."

I feel like a love triangle will erupt in the second book. I would love if Rachel Hawkins left that stereotypical element out of her book, but I cant help but be cautious...
I kind of liked the peaceful breakup. I felt bad for Ryan. he is a good guy. Just not the right guy for Harper. It's almost like she grew out of him. He got along perfectly with old harper. but new, more developed, Paladin Harper needs a better relationship, one where their are deeper connections. Ryan just didn't understand Harper...

I totally agree! I mean I am not one of those girls who is like "GIRLS DONT NEED GUYS, THEY MUST BE THE BEST, THEY CANT GET ANY HELP, BLAH BLAH BLAH" but I really, really, really... liked that Harper was so kick butt :)

message 70: by Federica (new)

Federica Valentini | 6 comments I loved this book so much more than i expected! The only thing that made me upset was the fact that Ryan became the Mage after Saylor's death... But I also think that can be interesting, we'll se... :)

message 71: by Kaylin (new)

Kaylin (cozynovelsoverload) | 12 comments Saylor :(
She was a cool Professor X

message 72: by Michaela (new)

Michaela | 1 comments So for all of you who seemed to miss it, all of the girls got their powers taken away except for Harper and Bee. I just felt the need to point that out.

message 73: by Katie (new)

Katie | 3 comments I loved this book SO MUCH! I'm so glad I read it with all of you! The twists were so awesome! Especially at the end! DEFINITELY did not see that coming at all!

message 74: by Cassie (new)

Cassie (cassiethebooklion) | 1 comments I love Harper and David so much! I'm also excited to see the awkwardness between Harper, Ryan, and David in the next book. :)

message 75: by Katrín Rós (new)

Katrín Rós (katrinrosf) | 11 comments I loved this last part! I was glad that Harper and Ryan broke up, they just weren't working anymore. The Cotillion was awesome. When David kissed Harper I just fangirled out (#Harvid). Although, I was very sad about Saylor dying, and I felt the grieve. I'm very curious as to how things will play out with Ryan as part of their gang and the ending made me very excited for the future of that trio. What's going to happen to Bee? What's gonna happen to David now that the spell has been cast on him?
Awesome.

message 76: by Liv (new)

Liv (oliviareadstoomuch) Okay that was basically perfect. Loved the ending!!! I take it back, I'm not going to judge books by their covers (50% of the time). Okay but seriously this book had everything:romance, action, suspense, and plot twists. I loved every bit of it.
Did anyone notice the part when Ryan was telling Harper about someone killing off someone with a soup ladle and near the end the Sunday school teacher had a ladle?? That was perfect. I love this book. Full 5/5 stars. Great pick for the read-a-long!!!

message 77: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin (Next Page Please!) (kaitlinreadstomuch) | 1 comments Okay, I was a little sad because of Ryan and Harper's break-up only because they were such a sweet couple before the Paladin but I guess it wasn't meant to be... [Did anyone see the double love triangle?] I didn't expect Ryan to be a Mage or Saylor to die [I'm gullible as eff] I was so sad because now we will be dealing w/ the David, Harper, and Ryan love triangle.I kinda was expecting Bythe's attack because the whole half of the book Harper was like Blythe Blythe Blythe. I really hope in the next book we find out more about Oracle and stuff. I really hope we find Bee too! I really loved her.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book and I can't wait for number 2. [Got on the series before everyone bandwagoned hehehe]

message 78: by Tara (new)

Tara (spity368) | 6 comments I liked this book soooo much more than I thought I would. Harper and Bee are probably going to have an intense fight in the next book since Harper is trying to kill Blythe and Bee is Blythe's paladin. I'm really scared that David might go crazy like Alaric.

This book made me laugh so much and David and Harper's kiss so freaking great. I can't wait for the sequel!

message 79: by Josi (new)

Josi | 2 comments This book was absolutely fantastic.
I'm really looking forward to sequel, because we have a very interesting set up with our new trio.
Am I the only one hoping the next book will be full of a bunch of awkward moments?

message 80: by Aimee (new)

Aimee Jane (kaimeejane) | 1 comments I like the idea that Ryan is a mage now definitely adds something since usually old friends and boyfriend get left behind in stories and dont usually get into the story if the main character enters this secret thang but yeah I wouldn't wprry too much of a love triangle because Ryan and Harper were kinda clear that they are not meant for each other and I love their relationship that even tho they like are broken up you can still clearly see that they care for each other and I AM SOOOO EXCITED TO SEE WHERE THIS GOES HEHEHE!!

message 81: by Judy (new)

Judy Patrick | 10 comments Omg this book was so awesome! I posted my whole review on the book itself but overall just amazing! I can't wait to read more!!!!
P.S.: I am SOOO happy David and Harper finally got together. It was like the fastest get together in my OTP history. She (finally) broke up with Ryan and then 10 minutes later she with David. That's how it's done folks! You shouldn't have to wait a whole book to see it happen! lol ;D

message 82: by Austin (new)

Austin Webberly | 8 comments Ok. I loved this book. I literally started jumping when Ryan became the Mage. Also, I loved the part when Ryan said, "So what? Are we going to sit in a circle and sing Kumbaya?"

message 83: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 17 comments This book was awesome. 'Nuff said.

message 84: by [deleted user] (new)

I loved it so much! David/Harper forever! I really hope like everyone said, no love triangle please! And I was picturing the staircase to be like Cinderella :P I don't know why haha :)

message 85: by Abigail (last edited Apr 28, 2014 12:17PM) (new)

Abigail (pieces09) | 1 comments With the relationship component, I really wish Harper would have broken up with Ryan before. I feel that if she were to do that then her heroic personality would have really shown through!!

I hope in the next book they can work everything out and become some awesome, powerful team :)

Also, Bee!!! What, no!? They need to get her back soon; I feel like Bee will become something powerful in then next book....

BTW: there needs to be some fan art for this book (please.)

message 86: by Kaylin (new)

Kaylin (cozynovelsoverload) | 12 comments I was pretty frustrated when David and Harper greatly underestimated Blythe. I mean come on! she basically just told you what she is capable of, the foreshadowing was obvious to everyone reading the book, why didn't they see it? argh!
I was pretty Surprised about Saylor's death. :(
I liked her! she was a good Professor X. David was already pretty lonely before, now he has no parental figure.
I did think the ending was a bit quick. Harper walked in right when Blythe was finishing. Not much time for Harper to kick butt.

message 87: by Jules (new)

Jules (julesshaun) | 2 comments I can honestly say I did not anticipate it ending the way it did. I loved the interactions between David and Harper, and I was glad Ryan and Harper finally broke up. These last few chapters really made me hate Mary Beth with a passion. did anybody else feel that way? I'm upset about Bee, but every great series needs a cliff hanger of some sort. Can't wait to see the badassery from the new group with Ryan!

message 88: by Karina (new)

Karina Hernandez (mylifeinstories) Just finished the book and I LOVED it. This is the first book I've given 5 stars in a while and I love that.

THAT PLOT TWIST AT THE END KILLED ME. MAKING RYAN THE MAGE???? GENIUS. this will play out so awkwardly and I love it

though I am sad that Saylor died :(

This book was really really good.
Does anyone know if there will be a second book???
