message 510: by Sophie (new)

Sophie Hi everyone, I'm Sophie, a uni student from England but studying in Wales. I love reading in my spare time and have been a member of Goodreads for a while but been too shy to post anything so thought it was time to introduce myself! :)

message 514: by Sophie (new)

Sophie I'm training to be a midwife, so unfortunately don't get the long summer off that other students have, I love it though :) haha I can cope with mad!

message 515: by Echo (new)

Echo (echo_fox) | 16 comments Hi Sophie! Ah, so do you have to study all day long or do they give you breaks to sneak outside?

message 516: by Sophie (new)

Sophie It's mainly placement in the hospital, but we usually manage to squeeze in time for a few cups of tea and cake!

message 517: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Is it anything like Call the Midwife?

Loved that show.

message 518: by Sophie (new)

Sophie Haha I like to think i look as glam as they do on call the midwife when delivering babies, but unfortunately it's not the case! It's very different now than it used to be I think, I do love watching the show though!

message 522: by Sophie (new)

Sophie Haha yeah it's not the best job if you're squeamish :p after a busy 13 hour shift I now have 3 weeks off, plenty of time to chill and catch up with reading! :D

message 523: by Sophie (new)

Sophie And I'm interested to know how you managed to inadvertently watch your friend give birth? Did it scar you for life? :p

message 524: by Victoria (last edited Aug 09, 2014 02:45AM) (new)

Victoria Sadler | 37 comments I tried to read the group rules, do's and donts and I got lost.

I'm an a new kindle author, if your at all curious about my book just search for me here, Victoria Louise Sadler, Unconventional Desires, Romance/erotic category. I thought writing the book was hard enough, I think publicising it is going to be the hardest part.

I have always loved to read, eclectic tastes, though my recent taste in books might be considered questionable by some. For me, a book, a glass of wine and scented bath is my heaven. When I'm not reading, full time mom and wife.

message 525: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Sadler | 37 comments Hi C, I have enjoyed the writing, but making it perfect consumed me and how many times can you keep rewriting something before you accept its as good as its ever going to get. Perfection, I'm not sure if its a killer or a good driver, perhaps both.

Sales, certainly not my cup of tea either. I don't know what routes are available to self publishers on kindle, something I need to investigate.

I like your view of perfect, an approach I should take.

Lizzie Rose (LizzieRoseBooks) | 15 comments Hello, I'm Lizzie Rose and I'm new to Goodreads. I write YA fiction and my favourite genres are sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal and adventure. I read pretty much anything within those genres. My favourite drink is Yorkshire tea (being a Yorkshire lass!), my favourite food is pasta, I wear jeans most of the time and I don't grow anything because I'm a really terrible gardener. I have no patience with plants and get bored easily so things tend to die on me. Other than that I like music, animals, travel, learning about other cultures, beliefs and societies and life in general. I'm looking forward to getting to know some other authors on here and reading your posts :-)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I've been a bit lax saying Hi, so Hi, Lizzie, Victoria, C, Sophie and anyone else I've missed. Welcome to the group.

Yay for Yorkshire tea!

Victoria Sadler | 37 comments Lizzie wrote: "Hello, I'm Lizzie Rose and I'm new to Goodreads. I write YA fiction and my favourite genres are sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal and adventure. I read pretty much anything within those genres. My favour..."

Hi Lizzie, I love pasta too, as for favourite non alcoholic drink that would have to be hot chocolate, though its better with a twist of disaronno.

message 531: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie Rose (LizzieRoseBooks) | 15 comments What is disaronno? I'm intrigued! I love hot chocolate too but you can't beat a proper brew. I tried green tea because I'm trying (not very hard) to lose weight. I got a lemon flavoured variety and it tastes like washing up liquid smells. I'm thinking that sweetening it with honey and following it with a chocolate bar kind of defeats the object.

message 532: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Hi and welcome. Tea. Waz of the gods!

message 533: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie Rose (LizzieRoseBooks) | 15 comments It's supposed to, yes. I read somewhere it has fat burning properties. The only thing I found was that my usual sweet cravings went away but I can't prove it was the tea.

Fairy washing up flavoured tea doesn't sound very appealing. As for disaronno, according to wiki.

"Disaronno Originale (28% abv) is a brand of fruity amaretto, with a characteristic bittersweet almond taste. Disaronno claims its "originale" amaretto's "secret formula" is unchanged from the year 1525,[1] and claims the Luini tale as its own particular history. Its production remains in Saronno, but the product is sold worldwide"

Lizzie Rose (LizzieRoseBooks) | 15 comments Well, I've learnt something new today. I'd never heard of that before. I only ever drink plain hot chocolate but am wondering if I'm missing out now.

If you like praline chocolates then give it a go. Its addictive and good with freshly whipped cream.

message 539: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie Rose (LizzieRoseBooks) | 15 comments I might just do that, thanks. Sounds lovely.

They say you learn something new every day! I hope you enjoy it if you try a tipple, a friend of our gave me some and I was hooked.

message 541: by Sophie (new)

Sophie Hiya Lizzie, Victoria and C! :) I love disaronno and coke, but have to say I've never tried it with hot chocolate, may have to give it a go!!

message 542: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie Rose (LizzieRoseBooks) | 15 comments Hi Sophie. I've never heard of it with coke either. I obviously haven't lived! :-)

message 543: by Bianca (new)

Bianca Van (biancavandewater) | 1 comments Hi All,

My name is Bianca and I am a newbie to both Goodreads and Kindle Publishing. I am a photographer and journalist and recently self-published my book Sydney Graffiti on Amazon. It is a non-fiction photography book on graffiti and street art in Sydney, Australia. Have a look and feedback is welcome :) I find Goodreads rather confusing. Any hints as to its purpose would be helpful :) Kind regards, Bianca

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Hi Bianca, welcome to the group.

The purpose of Goodreads. For an author, initially, to sell books, but nobody really wants to hear about you selling books, so it then becomes a social thing that grabs you or doesn't, and as readers get to know you, they just might purchase and enjoy your books. Join in and find out is all I can say :~)

Victoria Sadler | 37 comments Sophie wrote: "Hiya Lizzie, Victoria and C! :) I love disaronno and coke, but have to say I've never tried it with hot chocolate, may have to give it a go!!"

Yes I like it in coke also! I think our online shop for Wednesday deserves a bottle! Where would be without online grocery shopping!

message 546: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie Rose (LizzieRoseBooks) | 15 comments I looked it up on the online shopping and I know what it is now. My day job is in a supermarket and I have a fairly good product knowledge so was surprised I hadn't heard of it. I'm going to have to give it a miss though as I don't drink alcohol. I'm wondering if you can get a non-alcoholic version though as it does sound nice.

Echo (echo_fox) | 16 comments Hi Lizzie! Pasta rocks, no question.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Hi Lizzie, Bianca and anyone else I may have missed!

I think an almond flavouring or essence (as used in baking) may give a taste similar to Disaronno. I'm sure Costa sell an almond syrup for flavouring their coffee.
