I would love for you to check out my book :)Rescue Me Gently

I am enjoying
books thoroughly. It's a series and each one is standalone, although the characters do appear in each book.

Sjana, I totally agree. The delay is ridiculous and makes me want to boycott rest of series now. :(

Stand alone, contemporary erotic romance novel ' Stranger at the Beach House'

The Education of Sebastian
The Education of Caroline
I just read this one that is a stand alone that was great too
True Love Story

I thought I was the only one that felt this way. I have read a couple of free eBooks for authors and they all have this cliffhanger and two more books to come. I find now when someone tells me about a book my first question, is it a stand alone novel? I'm slowly working my way through Shayla Black's Wicked Ties series and they are all stand alone, but the character cross books. I'm enjoying it but can't read the same author back to back. Thanks to your discussion I have added some new books to my To-Read list.

I've added your book to my to-read list. Look forward to reading it.

That is an awesome read!

That is an awesome read!"
One of my favorites of 2013! :)

A few stand alone's that I have enjoyed are Unbound by Cara McKenna, Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover and Left Drowning by Jessica Park.

that series should have ONLY been 3 books. I couldn't believe the bullshit she wrote just to ....stretch out a book. I definitely UNlisted and deleted the books. I dont care how it ends now.

Raw, Belle Aurora...... AVOID IT! seriously.
the writing might have been darkk but the bullshit ending RUINED the whole experience. You feel totally slapped in the face!
Soo many better authors out there.
Mia Sheridan for one... AMAZING!!!! Love everything she has written.

Stephen King
Also can check this website:

Search by author or title & can tell you if book is part of a series or not. Find some of my best series & standalones this way!

SO AGREE WITH YOU! By the time the next novel in the series is out, I'm kind of over the story line and have read so much in between that I've forgotton about the characters and plot etc etc.
Awesome thread!

I'm the same way. Either that or I'm not even interested anymore.

Yes Paula I read that and LOVED it so much. I agree I would love more from that book also. I'm always trying to get people to read it.

It's a tricky one, because as a writer, I want people to fall in love with my characters, and enjoy the snapshot of time I set the story in, but we don't want people to ask for more.
Would you be upset with an author who wrote a standalone, and at a later date added a sequel?

I think it's good for authors to write a stand alone if that is what the story calls for, and then add another story if the readers want it.
As an example, in Nora Roberts' Chesapeake Bay series, she didn't write the final book until years later. We wanted to hear the youngest brother's story.

Stand alone books are great if the ending seems complete. Sometimes an author who writes a stand-alone seem to be rushing the ending after a very detailed and good beginning and one is left with a sense of the work being incomplete. In such a case, I would not mind getting a resolution to the story with a follow-up book. There are many books though that are stand-alone and feel complete and satisfying. The Sweet Gum Tree was certainly one of them.
