Waffle Monarch | 59 comments I'm bored and I've been having a lot of trouble finding a good PNR (or FR/SFR) to read. This is likely a combination of my standards and the fact that I've read quite a lot of books.

MY STANDARDS:
1) NO YA
2) NO LOVE TRIANGLES
3) NO TSTL
4) NO FAIRY TALE REIMAGININGS
5) NO ROYALTY. EVER.

I also prefer a decent amount of, well, romance in my romance books. Someone recently recommended to me the Anita Blake stories for PNR. Don't get me wrong the (first) book was good but there wasn't even the tiniest shred of romance in it.

What I've read:
The Psy Changeling Series
The Edge series
The guild hunter series
The Fae Chronicles series
The League series
The Black Dagger Brotherhood series
The Grabbed series (yyyyyyeeeeeesh)
The Lords of Arcadia series
The Krinar Chronicles
The Shadow Quest series
The Immortals After Dark series
The Chicagoland Vampires series (terrible)
The Imp series
The New Species series
The Ghostwalker series
The Night Huntress series
The Rogue Hunter series

And probably some more I can't recall.

If you're just as bored as I am and for some reason recommending stuff relieves your boredom please (PLEASE) feel welcome to recommend something to me that I haven't read.

TY in advance :)

Sharon (basketchik) | 86 comments Based on what you've read. You may want to try

The Dark Hunter series - Sherrilyn Kenyon
The Carpathians - Christine Feehan

Not sure if that is something you would like but I highly recommend them

Michelle(Chelle) aka Nightshade - Cake Whisperer (michmag) I would recommend

The Riley Jensen series by Keri Arthur
The Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones
Rhiannon's Law series by J.A. Saare

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 451 comments Also by Christine Feehan, the Drake Sisters series-not a vampire or shifter in sight. The series is paranormal (witches/psychics) romantic suspense.

Dee (phonebooklady) I hate to say that I don't know what TSTL means. Sometimes I'm just so old, I thought FML meant family. :)

Anyway, I thought these were good romance books.

Pride Mates (Shifters Unbound, #1) by Jennifer Ashley Atlantis Rising (Warriors of Poseidon, #1) by Alyssa Day Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison

Don't take this the wrong way but I think thats adorable.

TSTL means Too Stupid To Live. Its when the protagonist (usually the heroine in the case of PNR) does something so senseless and jaw droppingly stupid that she signals to the world that she desperately needs to be killed lest she pass on her defective genetic legacy. Of course, she invariably does not die and goes on to live happily ever after, against all sensible odds.

Dee (phonebooklady) Ohhhh.......been there, done that.

Good luck with your search!! I've been having some trouble lately with finding something, also. I just haunt these threads as they always seem to have something.

Maddy Barone (maddybarone) | 74 comments Marjorie Liu's Dirk & Steel series might appeal to you.

I heartily second the Elder Races series by Thea Harrison and the Shifters Unbound series by Jennifer Ashley.

Tiger Eye (Dirk & Steele, #1) by Marjorie M. Liu Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison Pride Mates (Shifters Unbound, #1) by Jennifer Ashley

Fuck My Life.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 538 comments It's a tough criteria to think of suggestions, but I'll take a stab at it:

Awakening the Nightmare (Symmetria #1) by Lanie Malone Morningstar (Morningstar, #1) by Darcy Town Power of the Moon (Power of the Moon, #1) by Tina Carreiro Darkness & Lies (Brotherhood, #1) by Brandi Salazar The Mummy by Anne Rice The Witching Hour (Lives of the Mayfair Witches, #1) by Anne Rice Beyond the Night (Envy Chronicles, #1) by Joss Ware Connected (Twists of Fate, #1) by Jolyn Palliata Water (Akasha, #1) by Terra Harmony

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 538 comments Oh, no wait - there is a quasi ghost of a triangle in The Mummy, but it's really not a huge thing, in my opinion.

Esther | 21 comments Check out Elizabeth Hunter's Elemental Mysteries (vampires and wonderful romance). The first book A Hidden Fire (Elemental Mysteries, #1) by Elizabeth Hunter is free on Smashwords. These 4 books follows one couple. She's also written a couple of spin off books in the same world.

Yes! I was going to recommend Elizabeth Hunter as well! I luv that series

Vanessa Wester | 125 comments Have you thought about reading thrillers instead? I tend to go to a different genre when I am bored with PR. I usually revert back in time, but its good to try some different.

I would highly recommend Jeffrey Archer, Ken Follett, or James Herbert...

Hope this helps :)

Heather Blair (lovelyshivers) | 31 comments hehe, this thread is a treasure trove! And the TSTL criteria is funny as hell. I had heard the full-term before but was also clueless as to the acronym.

Also, curious. What do you guys think makes the best female leads?

message 20: by Oleander (new)

Oleander | 94 comments If you are bored with romance switch to Urban Fantasy. You can still get a romance fix in UF but lots more action fun

Sonya Heaney Heather wrote: "Also, curious. What do you guys think makes the best female leads?"

I’m not huge on the super-tough, super perfect, ball-busting heroines, but I’m also not a fan of the weak little wimp who flops around on the ground and waits to be rescued (view spoiler)!

I think both of those character types are just empty shells anyway.

Most women aren’t at either end of the spectrum, but somewhere more in the middle, and I expect that kind of nuance in my heroines, too.

message 22: by Kasey (new)

Kasey | 11 comments You should give a try to the Alex Craft series by Kalayna Price. The Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep is great too

I agree except my go to author is Michael Connelly. There are at least 16 Harry Bosch novels and then they have a little overlap with Micky Haller books. Lincoln Lawyer was made in to a good movie. As usual, the book was better
