message 5: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I am not even committing to this challenge but might as well set up a place to report and play it by ear

message 6: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I am eyeing France, UK, and Afghanistan so far

message 7: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm thinking Afghanistan for sure.

I'm liking your section titles. Your Mystic Mountain hop reminds me of a bar on a beach in Thailand called Mushroom Mountain or Magic Mountain or Magic Mushroom Mountain. I can't remember now.

message 8: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Yeah writing reserved gets dull so I went with song titles instead keepong with the trips theme

message 9: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Maybe you could choose your books so that you feel like your in a constant trip. Lots of weird fiction, cyberpunk and a fear and loathing reread should do it!

message 10: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments England book Warriors of the Storm

message 11: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments When I think about trips as it applies to you, Travis, I was thinking your sections could be hazards of traveling: Rolled Down a Mountain, Crushed in a Glacier, Boiled by a Geyser, Tripped off a Bridge, Sank in the Sea, Trampled by Wildlife, Speared by Natives. :0)

message 12: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments So you see death in my travels apparently. Guess I'll pack light

Janice (jamasc) | 59954 comments LOL! Calling your thread "Travis Trips" set the mood. Travis trips and falls and skins his nose.

message 20: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments You'll easily cover the coloured cover books and with all the fantasy reads you'll have no problem with a crown and war book I guess. The cave one will be fun though.

message 21: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I think a book, and yhere are several simikar to Subterraneanwould handle the cave. But I don't care much for those type books so far

message 22: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments The Descent might handle the cave. Will need to investigate further

message 23: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Maybe my post was lost. The Last Hunter: Pursuit will fit caves. I found the first bpok a bot too YA but it would br a quick read

It's really red. Let me know what you think of it if you get to it before me. I've heard mixed responses, but bought it anyway.

message 31: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Well hunger games trilogy was hot and cold for me and in school I hated Lord of the flies. Although a reread might not hurt. Either way battle Royale looks kind of like a mix of those 2 so I can understand why the mixed reviews.

message 32: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I liked the Battle Royale film from what I recall of it. I'm guessing the book is better. It's usually the case.

message 35: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments So I started Gates of Fire: An Epic Novel of the Battle of Thermopylae and came to see where I had it marked to read. I didn't. Funny it is the first one I pick up only to find it not in my list. Could have sworn it was.

message 36: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Looks like it will make a nice Germany book for fighting with spears

message 37: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59954 comments Looks like a happy accident then Travis. Enjoy.

message 38: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments I read Gates of Fire long, long ago. I remember it being pretty accurate to what actually happened in the Thermopylae. I hope you enjoy it.

message 39: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments All my friends that have read it gave it 5 stars so that's a good sign. I believe it was on my shelf because it was recommended. Then it was in an audible sale a couple weeks back. I listened to a little today but wasn't really in the mood. I had just found final enlightenment in Dante's Divine Comedy to start Gates of Fire which opens with a young girl raped. I don't know wasn't quite in the mood at the time.

message 40: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments Yeah, some things need the right mood.
I read it in 2001, so I don't really remember too many details. We were living in Brazil and I bought a copy in Portuguese that I kept for years, until we moved here and had to get rid of it.
But what I really remember is how well the feeling of those 300 men trying to stop Xerxes, and knowing they will fail, was expressed. Talk about courage and service.
Good amount of action too, if I'm remembering right.
