Ghost in the Stacks In the middle of the path, you met Pan. Pan is the god of shepherds and flocks, of mountain wilds, hunting and rustic music. He wanders the hills and mountains of Arkadia playing his pan-pipes and chasing Nymph, but today he is to lead you to your next task, to go further into the maze you must pick on of his songs for him to play. Which song to do pick:
A. Popular
B. Goodreads Voice
C. Ebook

(Go the explore tab, click the arrow and pick the one you choose. Now pick a book that appears on the page.)

Ghost in the Stacks To Complete this task tell us what book you read and the rating.
Also tell us your favorite musical instrument.
Once this is completed, you may move on to quest Nine.

My favorite instrument in the guitar although I also play piano, organ, cornet and clarinet. Mostly now I play my ipod. :)

Barbara ★ I chose A: Popular

Illusion (Chronicles of Nick, #5) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Illusion - Sherrilyn Kenyon 5/23

I really love this series but this one totally confused me until I realized it was an alternate reality. Boy that sucks for everyone involved. Though it was great seeing these characters in different skins. Totally hilarious. Can't wait for the next installment.

I have almost zero musical talent so I don't really have a favorite instrument. Though I did play the trombone in elementary school but hated lugging that odd looking case around and boy was it heavy for a young person to lug around.

Ghost in the Stacks Hope you enjoyed it Barbara.

Beth Roberts | 15 comments I am stalled out here on Quest #8. My tendency is towards Popular, but when I first looked, there were a couple of possible choices. Now I realize that this list changes monthly and tends to lead with the most recently published and therefore most expensive new books. The same with Goodreads Voice. When I click on ebooks, I get a lot of books that appear to be in Arabic, and so that won't work, either.

I am looking to read books I already own. So I may be stuck here awhile.

message 11: by Trisha (new)

Trisha oh no, Beth! that's never fun!

I know I was only able to get this one using a library book.
I'm not sure if that helps you, but that was the only way for me (I'm with you! I don't really buy all brand new, hard bound books!)

message 12: by Trisha (new)

Trisha BUT I did just click ebook and it has:
The Help by Kathryn Stockett The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Hercule Poirot, #4) by Agatha Christie

so checking back may help :)

Beth Roberts | 15 comments Ha! I finally caught one - and I'm listing it now before it gets away like the last one did! I chose "Popular", and I found The Spiritglass Charade (Stoker & Holmes, #2) by Colleen Gleason at #189 on the list.

I've got it on hold at the library and it's on order. I'm #1 on the waiting list. I liked the first book in the series a lot and this one sounds good, too.

So, I'm waiting. But half of any Quest is the wait, right?

Ghost in the Stacks Haha!Good luck!

Beth Roberts | 15 comments Finished The Spiritglass Charade (Stoker & Holmes, #2) by Colleen Gleason
It was fun and worth the wait.

Favorite musical instrument? I do not HAVE a favorite musical instrument. But the not-yet-ex is a guitar player, so the guitar is definitely OUT.

I should've gone with the drummer, lol.

Ghost in the Stacks Nice!

We will ban all guitarist from here on out!

Beth Roberts | 15 comments LOL @ Abbie - you totally rock the support category, girlfriend! I actually was thinking about Bella when I was answering this question, but I couldn't remember if it was the violin she plays or not. Junior high-age musicians are a much better lot, in my opinion!

I came from AAMP and chose "Popular". I read:

Garrett (Cold Fury Hockey, #2) by Sawyer Bennett which #51 on the Most Popular Books Published In February 2015 list. completed 2/15/15
* 4 STARS*

Favorite Musical Instrument: would have to be the voice. It's so versatile and can do some many thing and it's the only musical instrument that you can be born with!

Review:
I can't decide if I'm happy I knew where this book was going before I started it or whether I wish I hadn't know so the ending was more of a surprise. But being me I had to read the prequel before starting the series and a lot of where Celaena Sardothien ends up is clear before even starting reading the main series.

Altogether though I LOVED this book. I disliked Celaena in the beginning, she was such as spoiled rotten little brat despite being the greatest assassin of her age, and maybe any other. She's sooooo girlie for how lethal she is. But even though her naivete is still there, or maybe it's just blind will not to recognize the truth because of how painful it will be, she does grow up a lot in the course of this book. The actions she takes don't end well for Celaena, but she was trying for something better. She wanted something different for herself and isn't quite grown up enough yet to recognize where the betrayal is really coming from. Thus why we can set an entire series after this one book. ;)

I really loved the world created here. It's a fantastic fantasy realm, with a hint of more modern ideas creeping in. For me though they didn't detract from the novel. It's a fictional world. Have a little modern convenience in there, fine by me.

I think my favorite of the novels that tell the early beginning of Celaena was the Assassin and the Desert. I really loved seeing the changes that experience wrote in Celaena. You really get to see the truly good heart underneath all the pampered spoiled princess attitude she normally maintains. The betrayal here is hard to bear, but nothing like her future. The rod of steel her experiences have likely given her has me really curious to see the sort of woman she starts to become within the rest of the series.

On one sober note...Sam, oh Sam! You my dear are a breath of wonderfulness and the perfect man for her young love. First love will always remain with someone even as time and distance takes them to other places. I loved that her fiery spirit always drew him, long before he ever admitted it or let her close enough to see his pretend hatred really covered a deep well of love underneath. Sam I salute you!

All in all I really enjoyed this story even knowing it's not even remotely a HEA or even a HFN. It's a set up book for a series that I'm now doubly curious to read.
