Welcome to eBook Miner, please tell us about you, some suggestions could be age, location, favorite genre, favorite author, books you have read recently etc.

message 2: by Terri (new)

Terri Hi guys! I'm really excited to have been asked to join! The idea of connecting w/ authors is one of the things I love about Goodreads! I've only been on the threads for about 2mos but already I've read 2books I would likely never have read because I met them on Goodreads! Medical Thrillers & Psych Thrillers are my fave genres but I also enjoy true crime & women's interest esp Jodi Picoult. I'm really hoping to read more Canadian authors bcuz I'm realizing that I've not supported our home grown talent as much as I could be! I look forward to sharing suggestions & thoughts & opinions when asked (when asked?! Who have I become??? Lol). Cheers folks!

I've had a varied life to say the least. I am writing a book that will hopefully be out later this year. Looking for people to strike up a conversation with and maybe a friendship.

Terri Hi everyone! It looks like we ran eclectic bunch!

Frank: I don't like tequila but I do like vodka. Does that qualify to hear about the gunslinger name?

RedIza: I too am owned by 2 cats! I love that; "owned by"! That's my new phrase to add to my mom of 4, wife of 1... Do you mind?

Mike: you have kitties too... I find it interesting that I've met more ppl on Goodreads that are kitty ppl. Maybe that's cuz we're all too busy reading?? I'm excited to hear some of your travel stories. I've been to Brunei & Malaysia & travel quite a bit in the States but that's about it.

Everyone else: Jump in & join the chat! Don't be shy!!

Kerry (caseykerry) HI everyone, thanks for the invite to the group. My latest title Shaken A Story of Emotional Abuse and Depression by Kerry Connelly has just been entered into book award season and will be going through a 5 day kindle count down deal at just 99c from the 8th of may - 12th May :)

message 12: by Kari (new)

Kari (mrsbonallo) | 1 comments Name's Kari. I am an English teacher in sunny (snicker) Seattle. I am an avid reader and all around book nerd. I am on YA kick because of my involvement in Battle of the Books at the HS I teach at. Hell, half the time I swear they are better than the adult lit I read. If I'm not reading YA I like historical thrillers and other "smart" lit. I never want to say I didn't learn anything from the book I just read (eh'hem 50 Shades ;)
All for now...
Oh, wait, I am an avid red wine drinker; no tequila for me.

message 13: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) Hey Everyone,
I'm 26, from Massachusetts and I am and author and poet. I joined this site after 2 recommendations from someone and thought I'd see what it was all about. I enjoy the poetry, horror, western and sci-fi genres.

I am looking forward to interacting with readers and fellow authors and partaking in some discussions.

message 14: by Lou (new)

Lou Schuler (louschuler) I'm Lou. I'm in eastern PA, in the Lehigh Valley, which I've heard actually has less sunshine than Seattle. (Not that it's a competition!) I spend most of my hours in the darkness writing books and articles about health, fitness, and nutrition.

I've also been writing fiction since college in the '70s, but after decades of the usual cycle -- get an agent, get a round of rejections, get advice to write in a way that would require a new personality, new life history, and new set of interests -- I made the leap into self-publishing with Saints Alive. Originally it was a YA novel, and it still has a teenage narrator, but so far adults seem to like it a lot more than kids. Which makes sense, considering that I wrote the kind of novel I like to read.

I look forward to getting to know everyone here and sharing our information and insights.

message 15: by Barry (new)

Barry Martin (barrymartin) Hey Lou, how is you?

Glad to meet you, I skipped the 'get an agent' thing and just published 'Eight bites of life' and '8 short stories of life' back in Jan of this year.

I am thinking now to re issue with pictures as well.

What do you think?

Hope to hear from you soon Lou, have a great time on here.

Regards

Barry

Frank Black (frankblack) | 11 comments Lets just say RedIza that it involved a Ruger red hawk and too much cocaine. It really is a story for a big night out, especially when I take my shoe off. I am old now so those days are behind me but my friends still get a laugh out of it. The ones that are still alive anyway. Nice to meet everyone

Kelly Willcoxbrackeen | 2 comments Hi you all. My name is Kelly. I read and review just about anything but my favorites include apocalypse stories, virus stories, suspense, young adult (even though I am not young), zombies, vampires, dystopian, and dark romances. I don't always like cookie cutter HEA. It tickles me when authors kill off their main characters. My favorite books are: Infected and Contagion by Scott Sigler, The Sleep of the Gods by James Sperl, The Stand and The Cell both by Stephen King, Sector C by Phoenix Sullivan, The Taken by Dean Koontz, Whitney My Love by Judith McNaught, Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare, Divergent series by Veronica Roth, Dark Secrets series by A. M. Hudson, and Wallbanger by Alice Clayton. There are so many more but my post is a bit big. I currently read about four books at a time not counting my texts books. I am a wife, mother, pet owner, student, and Grandma.

message 22: by Jane (new)

Jane | 7 comments Okay, I'll take the plunge. I still haven't got the hang of Goodreads. Hello all. I write fantasy, YA and adult. So far I have published the first two volumes of a dark, dystopian fantasy plus a prequel. Like Lou's book, the series is intended for YA but adults seem to enjoy it too. Style and subject are much more 'Northern Lights' than Hunger Games or Divergent.

My name is Stephen Goldin, and I'm a Goodreads author. I write science fiction and fantasy (currently have over 40 book titles in print), and those genres comprise most of my reading list as well, along with mysteries/thrillers. I'm currently finishing up my first new novel in 4 years, Quiet Post . I'm a pretty friendly guy, so if anyone has questions about sf, fantasy, or writing in general, give me a holler.

Pleasant reading!

Wow Stephen, I can't believe you wrote a Star Trek book!! My Mom introduced me to Sci Fi and Fantasy. I read most of her fantasy books but I read a couple Star Trek, mostly watched it with my Mom. I am just impressed and wowed. I checked out your books ;) I would like to read some of your books, but I don't know where to start. I saw The Jade series, and Isis and lots more. Can you suggest somewhere for me to start?

Hi Meghan, nice to meet you. Tracking down Trek To Madworld would probably require an adventure in used book stores; last I heard, it's totally out of print.

Starting point? Well, it depends on what you're in the mood for. Lightweight space opera adventure--Tsar Wars: Agents of ISIS, Book 1--and use coupon code JJ62M through August to get it for free at Smashwords. If you like more intense space adventure, try Jade Darcy and the Affair of Honor. For non-series space opera--Scavenger Hunt. And if you'd like an Arabian Nights style epic fantasy--Shrine of the Desert Mage. I think they're all a lot of fun.

Thanks for your interest, and pleasant reading!

Katie Harder-schauer Hi. I'm Katie and while I'm from Kansas, I currently live in Germany. I'm old enough to know better but still too young to care. I read pretty much everything but my favorite genres are horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and dystopian (sort of in that order although I'm on a big dystopian kick right now). I've been reviewing on Goodreads for almost two years now I think, but it's just been in the past six months that I've learned the importance of posting my reviews on sales sites as well. I'm a stay at home mom to two beautiful annoying children, and spend large portions of my spare time reading.

Helen Whapshott (helenwhapshott) | 3 comments Hi everyone
I'm Helen Whapshott author of The Glow.I was born in Aldershot in 1980, and survived all three of Cove's schools, I started my working life as a catering assistant in a bakery before deciding that the world of buns and cakes wasn't really for my and went to Farnborough College of Technology where I got my diploma in nursery nursing. I've been a nursery nurse, a teaching assistant in a school for children with special needs, a support worker for people with learning disabilities, a care assistant in a residential home for the elderly, before finally settling down as a health care assistant in a local hospital. I also do bank work (which means I fill in shifts) at a children's hospice in surrey. I have five wonderful nephews a lovely niece, two very patient parents and a brother and sister who are incredibly understanding. I've always had a love of being read to when I was a child and when I grew up I found that reading by myself was also very enjoyable, and my shelves at home cover a wide range of interest. I also enjoy creative writing my first ever hit was at infant school which was 'How The Kangaroo Got It's Hop' unfortunately I was away with the mumps so I missed the hype.

Terri Hi guys! I've already introduced myself but I was wondering about a few things re: book reive iim that some of you might know more about.

I've only been involved w/ Goodreads for a couple of months but I've already been approached to Read & Review a couple of times. To me, being able to express my opinions on books is one of the best aspects of Goodreads. I'm wondering though, are there some guidelines that newbies (like me) should kno to follow? For ex: time period. Is there a generally accepted time it should take from getting the book to reviewing it? Also, are there any guidelines if you don't really like the book (aside from using common courtesy)? Any tips from anyone would really be appreciated.

Are there any lists or something that I can register w/ to let authors know that I would be interested in reviewing books? I especially am interested in Med/Psych Thrillers.

Thanks guys!

Hi Terri,
we will try to help you as best as we can.
Definitely post the fact that you want to review on groups that are asking for reviewers. We will do it in the future, but right now we are concentrating on building awareness and our launch.

You can review the book as soon as you finish reading it, we also recommend reviewing it on Amazon or any other sites the book is listed. This helps the author out.

You can also contact the author directly, most indie authors will probably be interested. One thing we have found though is that if they do want to give you a copy of their book to review, it will normally be in PDF or Mobi format. A lot of readers ask for a paperback or hardcopy version of the book, this can be hard and unfair for the author to facilitate. Postage, the cost of the book etc is too much for most authors. They are paying to give their book away which is not fair. So we advise readers to ask for an electronic copy and respect the authors wishes if they do not wish to do so; also of importance is that if someone says they are going to review the book, please review it. (This isn't directed at you Terri, it is just a good general rule for all reviewers/readers)

Some reviewers won't post a review if it is negative but that is completely up to you. A reviewer has full rights to express their opinion/s but if it is bad/negative, please put constructive points in there so that the author can learn and grow from the experience.

There is nothing worse than a review that goes like this, "This book was bad" or "This book was shit." It doesn't help the author out at all and to other readers, how do they even know the reviewer actually read it?

Diamond Drake (diamondthewriter) Hello Everyone,
My name is Diamond Drake and I have to admit to being addicted to Goodreads! I've had a ball meeting new people and reading books I may not have otherwise. I'm also a Goodreads author who has received incredible support and feedback from readers. My novels are Imagined Love, For the Love of Jade (sequel and International Book Award Winner), and Love's Fool (Editor's Choice Award Winner and Indie Excellence finalist). I'm SUPPOSED to be finishing my fourth and fifth book but I spend so much time here on Goodreads that I've fallen behind. The reads-to-review are addictive and I keep signing up for them no matter how many times I swear I'm going to stop. What can I say? I probably need to join Goodreads Anonymous and get myself some help. hahahahahaha

Jan Hi Everyone! and many thanks for the invitation to join what appears to be an interesting and varied group. My husband and I are retired and now live about 60 miles northwest of Chicago on 2.5 acres with our 2 Newfoundlands and Blue Heeler/Aussie mix. I belong to the Fred MacMurray Club and G'ma of 3 soon to be 5. I love Goodreads and consider it to be the best site available to readers and authors alike. I read about 200 books a year from all genres and review each one. I only hope to live long enough to read the 2000+ books on my TBR list!!

message 45: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (quargl) | 1 comments Hi...
I was invited to join by Frank Black, and I'm very glad he took the trouble!

I'm 57 (but a kid at heart), and if you were to try to pin me down as to which genres I prefer, the task would be disappointing, as I am almost totally without prejudice in this regard--okay, I'm not a zombie fan, but otherwise....go for it! I can let you know, however, that before I moved to the Midwest I had a cookbook collection which topped 5,000; unfortunately, I was forced to downsize.

So far, I have been thrilled with my winnings from the GR giveaways. I hope the trend continues!

Peggy Rothschild | 30 comments Hi All,

I'm Peggy and my first thriller, Clementine's Shadow, came out a year ago. I've been working on a YA mystery which I'm hoping will see the light of day in the not-too-distant future. I live in Ventura, CA, with my husband and our rescue cats. When I'm not writing, I'm working in the yard or walking the nearby hills or -- of course! -- reading. I love mysteries and thrillers as well as general fiction. My favorite authors include Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, Jo Nesbo, Jan Burke, Tana French, Gillian Flynn and C.J. Box (though there are MANY more I could mention).

Thanks so much for the invite.

message 47: by Harmony (new)

Harmony Kent (harmonyk) Hi all
I'm Harmony, and I published my first book in May last year (fantasy fiction). My second book (suspense) was published in November, and my latest is due out at the end of this month (31st) ... my first YA book, and I have returned to the fantasy genre.
As well as being a mad writer, I also read (avidly, and just about anything). I review (for The Review Board, Awesome Indies, and under my own umbrella). I also edit, proofread and beta read. Sometimes I remember I'm supposed to sleep ... yeah, you remember that word?!?
Oh, and I also have my own column "All About Indie" in the upcoming All Author's Magazine.
I love playing the piano (tho' I'm not so sure people love listening to me play quite so much) :3
Check out my profile for 10 things you should know about me :D
Thanks L.R. Currell for the invite to this group ... it looks awesome!
Cheers
Harmony :)

Margaret Sharp (margaretlynettesharp) | 2 comments Hi! I'm Margaret Lynette Sharp, an Australian woman writer.
I've written and published ten titles so far. Most of these have involved taking a look at life and love in Australia. If you like collections of romantic short stories and vignettes, then i invite you to sort through my titles. Lately I've taken to writing longer works such as novellas, but I've stuck with the romance genre.
Some of my personal favourites are the well-reviewed A Taste of Life and Love in Australia, Encore, Long and Short Australian Stories, Amelia's Call and Michaela Betrayed.
I have a blog on Wondpress: margaretlynettesharp. Many of my posts are about Australian birds and scenes.
Apart from writing, I like swimming, caring for my pets, playing the piano and piano accordion, listening to music, dancing, and painting in watercolour.
Thanks for the invitation to join!

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 1 comments Hi all,
My name is Michael J. Sullivan and I'm a full-time author primarily known for fantasy, but I recently also released a science fiction title. I really like companies like ebook Miner that help with the discoverability aspect of uniting authors and readers. I'm what's known as a hybrid author, meaning I release books both through the big-five publishers and also the indie route. Here is a bit about my current books and a future project:

THE RIYRIA REVELATIONS: Unlikely heroes...classic adventure

They killed the king. They pinned it on two men. They chose poorly
There's no ancient evil to defeat or orphan destined for greatness, just two guys in the wrong place at the wrong time. Royce Melborn, a skilled thief, and his mercenary partner, Hadrian Blackwater, are enterprising thieves who end up running for their lives when they're framed for the death of the king. Trapped in a conspiracy that goes beyond the overthrow of a tiny kingdom, their only hope is unraveling an ancient mystery before it's too late.

THE RIYRIA CHRONICLES: Sometimes the bonds of friendship are forged in blood

Two men who hate each other. One impossible mission. A legend in the making
A warrior with nothing to fight for is paired with a thieving assassin with nothing to lose. Together they must steal a treasure that no one can reach. The Crown Tower is the impregnable remains of the grandest fortress ever built and home to the realm's most prized possessions. But it isn't gold or jewels that the old wizard is after, and if he can just keep them from killing each other, they just might do it.

HOLLOW WORLD: The future is coming...for some, sooner than others

Ellis Rogers is an ordinary man who has always played it safe and done the right thing. When diagnosed with a terminal illness, he’s willing to take an insane gamble. He’s built a time machine in his garage, and if it works, he’ll face a world that challenges his understanding of what it means to be human, what it takes to love, and the cost of paradise. He could find more than a cure for his illness; he might find what everyone has been searching for since time began…but only if he can survive Hollow World.

The project I just finished writing, and haven't published yet, is my new fantasy series.

THE FIRST EMPIRE: What does it mean if the gods can be killed?

In the land of the Rhune, trees can tell the future. Roaw can’t sleep before adding more human bones to their bed. Crimbels steal children through secret doors in the forest, and the gods are beyond reproach. But when Raithe’s father is slain, he fights back and does the unthinkable--he kills a god. From this act rises the legend of the God-killer, the seeds of a rebellion, and the question of whether the gods are really gods after all.

Before the Dark Ages, there was the age of Myth and Legend. Before kings and castles, there were mystics and heroes. Before two thieves, there was an empire. And before there was an empire, there was Nyphron. Everything you think you know about the history of Elan is a myth. Learn the truth behind the legend. Discover the world of The First Empire.

If you would like to try out my writing with no cost (and just a short time investment), I have two free short stories on Audible. Just click on the cover below to go to the page, if you would prefer to have an ebook version, just email me (michael(dot)sullivan(dot)dc(at)gmail(dot)com and I'll send it out.

Again, thanks for the invite to the group, I look forward to seeing what ebook Miner does as it rolls out.
