Loretta (lorettalivingstone) | 134 comments Can anyone tell me whether I am allowed to sell my paperbacks at a cheaper price than Amazon from my own website? I am aware that I cannot sell a download more cheaply, or indeed anywhere else if I am in the KDP programme - but I'm confused about paperbacks. It would be really helpful if someone could advise me. Thanks.

Regina Shelley (reginas) | 135 comments I think there's a thing on Amazon where you agree to only sell through Amazon and ONLY Amazon...KDP Select, I think...in exchange for being able to do giveaways and whatnot. But if you are not signed up for that, then you should be able to sell it from any place you can manage. The agreement for Select, as I understand it, is that you agree to not have your book available anywhere else. You should check the terms of service for that, but that's what I understand off the top of my head.

I'm not enrolled in Select, and I keep a small stack of paperbacks on hand because people sometimes ask to buy them directly from me. I sell them for a little cheaper than they are available on Amazon because it's easier to have a nice round number and also because I'm getting them cheaper, so it doesn't cost me anything to pass on some savings to a fan.

I am pretty sure it's only an issue if you've enrolled your book in KDP Select.

K.D. McQuain (kd_mcquain) | 97 comments My understanding is that KDP Select is only for digital exclusivity as they don't offer print versions. So you are locked into an exclusive agreement for 90 days on digital distribution but print is fair game.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 2274 comments I think Regina said it best. When your in KDP they are very touchy over no selling while your book in under but paperback I would assume you can sell however you'd like wherever you'd like.

Rhoda D'Ettore (RhodaDEttore) | 73 comments This is copied directly from KDP--- it ONLY pertains to digital/ebooks -- physical copies are up to you:

What does it mean to publish exclusively on Kindle?
When you choose to enroll your book in KDP Select, you're committing to make the digital format of that book available exclusively through KDP. During the period of exclusivity, you cannot distribute your book digitally anywhere else, including on your website, blogs, etc. However, you can continue to distribute your book in physical format, or in any format other than digital. See the KDP Select Terms and Conditions for more information.

Rhoda D'Ettore (RhodaDEttore) | 73 comments BTW... ACX.com which produces the audiobooks is owned by amazon, and they ask for exclusivity as well--- for 7 years... they promote them on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes.

Loretta (lorettalivingstone) | 134 comments Thank you so much everybody, I really appreciate all your help. I have now been bold enough to put the paperback on my website at a lower price, feeling safe in the knowledge that I am not contravening any Amazonian regulations.
Once more, many thanks to you all. I am so grateful for your kindness in responding to me, and delighted to know that I didn't read it wrong after all.

Until I get caught? But apparently I am allowed to sell the paperbacks at a lower price on my own website. There is nothing to get caught doing wrong. I am not breaking any rules unless I sell downloads more cheaply elsewhere. Take a look at the other responses - it is all ok. That was why I checked. To avoid doing anything wrong.
