Greg Strandberg (gregstrandberg) For the past several weeks my daily Goodreads email has been shrinking.

Where are all the people? Does no one comment on fantasy books anymore?

Or is it just that so many people have abandoned Goodreads? Honestly, I don't see a whole lot worth commenting on each day myself.

What do you think?

message 2: by Luke (new)

Luke Part of it is that spring has started, so people aren't cooped up nearly as much. Personally, work has taken quite a bit of my attention lately so I haven't had time for the internet nearly as much :(

message 3: by Stuart (new)

Stuart (asfus) | 56 comments I am in a similar position with heavy work commitments.

Bev (greenginger) | 744 comments Hi

I have noticed and also think it is because of Spring. DO feel free to keep contributions coming and I am sure that you will get everyone chatting. Thanks for being here. :)

message 5: by Satinder (new)

Satinder Well, I am working on my own book at the moment. I find the "Dont you hate it when...." type of discussions just make me paranoid so thats why I'm not looking at or contributing to much these days!

Kris43 | 70 comments A bit of spring, a bit of work, a bit of re-subbing to World of Warcraft, a bit of teaching my new dog how to sit/down/stay/walk on leash, a bit of exploring the near by forest with my dogs, aaaaand a little bit of reading Half a King :)

Still here, just lurking more.

message 8: by Talitha (new)

Talitha (victorian_soul) I've been writing a blog, enjoying being able to grow plants on my enclosed porch, and lurking around Goodreads like Kris43. I haven't found a whole lot of "I must weigh in on this" topics, so I join different groups and hope people make interesting threads. I've noticed fewer people around, though, as well.

L.G. Estrella | 138 comments It's a cyclical thing. Like the others have said, there are a lot of things going on now.

message 10: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) I get more or less active in specific groups over time - right now my reading/reviewing group is taking up a lot of my time (which is fine). I still check back here regularly when I see there's been activity, but I only comment in threads that really interest me.

Lára | 479 comments Lots of people abandoned Goodreads because Amazon bought it. Quite a silly reason to quit something, if you've loved it.

But, as I've said in some other thread, people here insulted me because I had a different opinion, so I don't post as often as before. I do remember my bullies tho ;)

I recently supported one

Yeah, the bullying and antagonism can take the fun out of anything.

Lara, if you have any problems or issues please let me know. Hopefully we will do away with any bullying.

I'll disagree with you here. While some people maybe have left due to the purchase, most of the people who abandoned GR did so because GR started deleting their reviews and shelves.

And still others have been leaving GR due to very popular powerusers being kickbanned without notification or justification.

Most of us who used GR as both a social network AND a book catalog cannot bare to lose so much work and content based on whim.

I deleted my shelves and reviews, purchased my own cataloging software and utilize a personal blog and Leafmarks. GR's has been regulated to a pure social network for me.

Wish i knew what kickbanned and poweruser meant. :!

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 325 comments O_O Sorry about that.

Kickban - to delete a member's account and bar the former member from re-entry.

A lot of authors get kicked (deleted accounts) but rarely banned (banning of the ISP(s)). About 1/2 of members I know who have been kicked have also been banned.

Poweruser - in relation to GR this would be a member who generally logs into GR at least once a day and heavily uses the site as well as provides content. So, it's a little past just being an active user - it's someone who is an active user; who logs in daily; who (quite often) Mods at least one group; who is a member of at least one group (but usually several); who reads, rates and reviews; who shelves books; who has followers & friends; who recommends books and accepts recommendations.
