I REALLY enjoyed this book. It was funny and enlightening and heartbreaking and just all-around great. SO glad I read it!
Oooh.. Sara, I like the happy face! I'm going to see if I can find a heart... Oooh! It worked! YAY!

So THAT'S what that is!! I thought it looked most like a constrictor trying to swallow a black egg! (which I was sure wasn't correct...)

Next stop the kite..."Which task did you use this for? I'll add the points in once you let me know.

An interesting continuation of the Bella/Edward story.
I liked how the relationships matured in this book. There's still the annoying and entertaining teenage angst and insecurity but it's being tempered by some maturity in places.
A fun book. I think I would have really loved this series when I was a teenager. Now I can get annoyed at the long-winded drama if it continues too long but it's still an entertaining story.

I read and watched Nights in Rodanthe.
I was really surprised by both. Nicholas Sparks generally has the ability to make me bawl like a baby, but this novel didn't do that to me. Sure I shed a tear, but not anywhere near the usual.
So I expected the movie to be more emotional since the book didn't do it for me. I thought for sure I would be crying my eyes out like I did with The Notebook. But they took such drastic liberties with the storyline, that it really felt like I was watching a different movie. It didn't feel at all like the book. I don't want to spoil it for those that haven't seen or read the book, but this was a disappointing version of the story. :(

5.2 - Three Cups of Tea One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin.

15.6--MONET'S LANDSCAPES by Vivian Russel
What I liked the most about this book, which tells of the many places that Monet travelled in order to paint, was the fact that there were photos of the actual locations alongside the finised works. This really showed off Monet's "vision" of what he was seeing.
Since it has been sooooo hot around here I headed west to Balboa Park and visited The SD Museum of Art. I am a member, so I go there pretty often and usually will look at all of the Impressionist works they have as that is my favorite style; however, they have a new show going on with Picasso and Miro which has taken the place of my beloved pieces (they'll be back tho' as they are part of the permanent collection).
and
15.9--HOME ACROSS THE ROAD by Nancy Peacock
I really liked this story of two families: the "White Redds" and the slaves who worked for them who were also known as "Redds". The tale is told through the eyes of China who at the beginning is close to death and she thinks back on her families history from slavery, to "freedom" (while still working in the slaveholder's home).
For the homework assignment I thought of a few essay question choices wherein the student would answer in 3-4 pages and would include examples to support their thesis.
1. Compare/Contrast the "White" Redd women and the "other" Redd women who work for them.
2. What do the Abalone earrings symbolize? Give at least two examples.
3. "Sweeping" and "Waiting" are mentioned throughout the story. Discuss the significance of these words/ideas.
4. Why do things suddenly "change" near the end of the story. In your opinion is the change for good, or for bad?
This brings my points to 85!

Roseann - The really important question is: Was the exhibition any good? That strikes me as an odd combination of artists, but I happen to love them all! If you're ever in DC, you should stop by the National Gallery. We have a great collection of Impressionist paintings. (I say we because I consider it my museum. Very selfish of me, yes.)
And cheers to you for supporting your local museum! I'm sure they need all the support they can get these days.

It's been sitting on my bookshelf for eight or nine years, but all these other books keep getting in front of it. I only bought it because when I picked it up at the used book store the cute guy there said, "That's a really good book." I wonder how many stories of my mistakes would start "The cute guy said...." Probably a lot.
Thanks, Janice, for giving me a reason to finally get this baby off my shelves. It's on its way to Goodwill!

Sure - The Time Machine by H.G. Wells was easier to read than I expected; weird but fascinating and a little scary too. 3*

Katie, I've been doing a lot of bargain book shopping at Goodwill and I keep seeing this book sitting on the shelf. I'm so glad I keep passing it up.

I'm wary of books I see a lot of copies of at used bookstores. Why is everyone so glad to be rid of them if they're good books? Especially at Goodwill—that means they gave the book away for free! Half-Price Books will at least give you $0.25 for it! ;)

10.7 I read 'Somewhere in Heaven: The Remarkable Love Story of Dana and Christopher Reeve'
by Christopher P. Andersen for the hero task. As the challenge mentioned Christopher Reeve and I had this book on the shelf I thought I'd read it and see if it would fit the challenge.
It was on of those books that will stay with me a long time. Although I found his strength to cope with the tragedy truly inspiring I found his wife Dana to be a real life 'hero'. She truly was an amazing woman and the love they shared was evident. She carried on fund raising through her battle with lung cancer that claimed her 18 months after her husband.
10.8 With one lousy free packet of seed by Lynne Truss
This was for the word generator challenge- my three words were customary, attendance and packet. I struggled to find a book and someone kindly found this title for me. I really struggled to finish the book - it seemed to amble on aimlessly.

5.10 Time Travel: The Last Continent by Terry Pratchett. In this book, the wizards end up several thousand years in the past.
Oh, I had so much fun reading this.

I have learned to tune people out, because the chatty ones don't READ so I usually start a conversation about a book and they wonder off, now if they are readers it is a delightful conversation.

For task 5.4 (Adoption) - I read Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born by Jamie Lee Curtis. Its a story about a littl..."
I have seen books by jamie lee curtis and to me these are picture books for the preschool set.
