FALL CHALLENGE 2009 COMPLETED TASKS

As You Like It and watched the Kenneth Branagh version, starring Bryce Dallas Howard. It's GORGEOUS. Set in feudal Japan which is a perfect backdrop for the story of these two dukes and their daughters and their lovers.
also finished 5.6 Supernatural Witch's Canyon a few days ago, posted that, but haven't had my total updated! sigh...

25.5--PROPHECY ROCK by Ron MacGregor
I have read a few other mysteries with a Native American as the lead protagonist and I have to say that this is my favorite by far. While I have often gotten lost with the Native references this novel brought the culture in with the mystery in a very easy to follow way.
While reading this I started thinking about our local reservation and wound up going to a Sycaun tonight for the buffet and found out the PowWow is going to happen next week, so I think I will attend.
This brings me to 125 points!

I really enjoyed this book. It made me miss a deadline. My mom is visiting this week, and I sometimes even wanted her to go to bed early just so I could read more. ;)

& 30.1. current job - student A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, James Joyce
dream job - writer - Angel, Elizabeth Taylor
My total is thus 35 points and I've read two more books for tasks that requiere more books -Life of Pi and The Castle by Franz Kafka.

I actually really loved it! I usually never read graphic novels or comics but this was very well written and I like how it makes my brain work in a different way (flex that visual intelligence muscle). I always wanted to read The Absolute Sandman, Vol. 1 and other books from that series and now I think I will!

Also finished 10.3 (Berenstein Bears) which I loved! I read Blueberry Girl, Where the Wild Things Are, Madeline and the Cats of Rome, and Edwina, the Dinosaur Who Didn't Know She Was Extinct. I read a bunch more since I just grabbed a stack from the library and didn't realize how many pages they had. But that was so much fun; it was like being 5 years old again!

I read Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris. I love his books. Needed the laugh, so great option for the task, but could've probably fit it into a winter challenge later. Great quick read!

The movie missed out some key facts/plot devices that were critical to the ending of the book. So whilst the movie was a predictable suspense/action movie (I knew there was going to a be a car bomb and that doesn't appear in the book) but despite the flat characterization in the book that gave the actors little to play with it was a watchable movie that cracked on at a pace.
I was disappointed that we didn't find out who the Camarlengo's father was (we do in the book) and that the man who becomes Pope is different to the book.
All in all I preferred the book to the movie but it was a close call

I loved City of Thieves, but reading Leaves of Grass was like eating broken glass. I really, really wanted to like it, but alas...

This is one of the most beautiful book covers I've ever seen--there are several apples on the cover which are very fitting since the family's apple tree is a bit of a 'character' itself:

This book was a very quick read that I enjoyed very much.
My husband and my dad have been doing manly things with power tools all day and this book was a perfect, escape from all that testosterone. I'm glad I own this one because I can't wait to pass it on to my mom, my sister and my mother-in-law. This is one of those gentle, fluffy books that I think most women would feel comforted by.

10.3 - Childrens Books - Falling Up by Shel Silverstein - 9/4/09, which was pretty cute
10.9 - Civil War - Love Beyond Time by Nancy Campbell Allen - 9/4/09 (in which the two main characters travel back in time to the middle of the Civil War), which I also really liked. It was a cute little LDS fiction novel.

I just updated my first name on my profile. It was showing as jenijo.lyn, but is now showing just as Jeni. I noticed it was jenijo.lyn on the leader board, so I thought I'd let you know for when you update the scores.
Thanks!
Jeni

I read The Unbearable Lightness of Being and The Angel of Darkness.
I really enjoyed The Unbearable Lightness of Being, it is up there with my all time favorite books. The Angel of Darkness was ok, but did not live up to its prequel The Alienist.

How'd you like it? I read it and its sequel several years ago and really liked them. I was really sorry that the series was never finished.
