THanks for checking for me,

5.9 – Sudoku Puzzle Murders – Is that about a "se..."

Hi - just wanted to chime in about the Sudoku Puzzle murders. I just finished this book about 3 days ago. It is NOT about a senior. The main character is 25. Her aunt is in the book, but is definitely not a main character. She only has a few scenes - definitely not enough to qualify for the senior citizen task.

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 1281 comments Bridgit wrote: "...It is NOT about a senior. The main character is 25..." regarding the Sudoku Puzzle Murders.

The main character of the series is Cora Felton, the aunt, who is the one who solves the mysteries with the help of her niece, Sherry Carter.

The Synopsis for A Clue for the Puzzle Lady: (Puzzle Lady Series #1) on bn.com states the following: Cruciverbalists, rejoice! Pick up a pencil and get ready to solve a puzzling murder-and an actual crossword puzzle-in this sparkling debut of a unique amateur detective: Miss Cora Felton, an eccentric old lady with a syndicated puzzle column, an irresistible urge to poke into unsettling events, and a niece who's determined to keep her out of trouble.

If I remember correctly, Sherry had a little more involvement in the Sudoku Puzzle Murders, but Cora was still the main "detective."

Bridgit | 505 comments You know what - i read The Sudoku Murder A Katie McDonald Mystery not The Sudoku Puzzle Murders - what a difference a word makes. though really, the plots sound very similar. both involve a niece/aunt relationship.

That's interesting. I might check out the Katie McDonald one just to compare the two.

The series by Parnell Hall would work for a senior citizen. Enjoy!

El Gina, I was just looking at your list and thought I'd mention that Candace's task requires the book to have been written in the last 10 years and the movie version to have been made within the last 5. Pride and Prejudice is definitely outside of that 10 year requirement. Wanted you to be aware before you read it and try to claim points for it! :)

4. CANDACE'S TASK - Read A Book That Has Been Written Within The Last 10 Years And Made Into A Movie Within The Last 5. Read The Book And Watch The Movie Both, Then Post A Little Review Of The Two And Tell Us Which One You Liked Better And Why. Cindy AL (cangelmd) | 645 comments I can't get my list done!!! Actually, this summer my list changed so much that the post was sort of worthless. I guess that is a bit selfish, because what posting a list does is help other people who are struggling to find a book for a task - but, hey, we've got a super thread for that now.
I will get some GOALS into writing:
1) Get 500 points
2) Read only books that are interesting and enjoyable - there were a few stinkers last time, I need to post those.
3) Don't buy any books especially for the challenge
4) Read at least 1 book from a genre that I don't usually touch

My family felt ignored this summer, and have no vacation time this fall, so to remain sane, I have to control the reading.

but isn't it nice to help others who are struggling or new and not sure if the book they chose worked?

I was so perplexed on the German task, that having someone hold my hand and literally walk me to the author I could use was very helpful : )

I don't have a huge TBR list, but I tend to use the library for most of my books. Since I don't want them all to come in at the same time, I tend to use the "Vacation" factor to mark hold on certain books to kick in at a later date. The biggest problem is if I am using very popular new books the holds list is sometimes too long so I either have to choose a different book or break down and buy it. Anyway, the library is certainly a cheaper way to go.

I do the same thing. I don't buy books for the challenge unless I was already planning to buy them. We simply don't buy new books often at all, since our budget is so tight. I do buy used books occasionally, use paperbackswap, and go to the library. It's much cheaper, and I get to read a lot more.

Thanks so much for the heads-up, Julia! I've been wanting to read this for a while, but hadn't yet been up to braving the wait list at the library. I'm so happy to have a chance to escape it entirely!

Anna (gqannanguyen) | 214 comments 5 Point Tasks

2)Garden Spell by Sarah Addison Allen
3)On Stranger Tides by Tim powers
4)The Secret life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
5)Before We Were Free by Julia Alverez I still like it. It was an interesting read and looking through a child eyes through the whole traumatic event was great fun. But reading it a second time was a little anticlimactic. Although I did notice some details I didn't notice before.
6)Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Shwartz

10)Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut

15 Point Tasks
1)The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson and The Girl Who played with fire by Steig Larsson
2)Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld
I think it would be awesome if our world was exciting as Westerfeld's? I mean can you imagine? Cross bred animals and highly advance war machines? ok so that doesn't sound so good but trust me it is amazing in the book. Plus I'm sure there are much more peaceful inventions in that alternate history, but the story takes place during World War I so of course there will be a lot of tanks and ships. It would also be cool to have seen what would have happen if the Archduke's children were legitimate heirs to the Austrian throne. I can't say the world would be better per say, as there will still be war and death but it would be ALOT more interesting for Europe and the world.

3)Anna Nguyen: Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch and 1994/15=132 The Blade Itself (The First Law) by Joe Abercrombie
4)Hunger by Micheal Grant and Mega Disasters
5)Momo by Micheal Ende and The Glass Bead Game by Hermann Hesse

Hello! Just a heads up but this task was referring to the amount of words in your book titles. So far only Two Bear Mambo would fit this task as the 3 word title. Your other books have too many words for this task. I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding ones that fit from your TBR list though.
