B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments On the Friday at 12.00am (in your local time zone) you start keeping track of how many pages you read until Sunday at 11.59pm.

In each month's thread you will post your progress, telling everyone what you're reading and how many pages.

Then all readers' totals will be tallied on the Monday to reach the goal of ??? pages. It is a relaxed read-a-thon; it doesn't matter if you read 20 pages or 100, it also doesn't matter if we reach our goal, it's just having fun doing what you would normally be doing anyway:)

Once the new month's thread is posted (approximately mid month), make sure you put your names down if you want to be included.

We will do the read-a-thon on the last weekend of each month - if we achieve our goal of pages read, we will up the challenge the following month:)

For those who read by eReader, take the page number which shows for paperback/hardcover here on Goodreads for your total. Calculate by percentage to work out your page number read.

For audio listeners, check out how many pages the book has on Goodreads, then divide that number by how many CDs or hours it is to give you an idea of pages per time.

Another group I am in is doing this; what do the Moderators think about running it here? please delete if you think it is unnecessary etc. B

I like it very much!!!
I'll start counting up the pages this friday, even if it won't be so easy: I don't read only one book at a time!

Leslie | 16369 comments So how do you set the goal? Are we starting on the 18th?

I am also thinking about where the best place for this thread is... if it will be a regular feature, it seems it might be better in different folder. How is this managed in that other group B3tt3 Booklover?

It is posted as an 'event' by the Moderators and invites are sent out. Put in our Challenges folder.

The first goal is a total of 3000 pages read by all who participate. If we exceed that total, we will possibly increase it for May. (we might nominate less because we are starting mid-month.)

Do the Mods here want to take care of that, please?

Liking this idea. I have seen it on other groups.

Beth | 508 comments I will too

I've created an event for this. Shall we start in may?
@B3tt3 Booklover: shall you think of opening the thread at mid may?

message 13: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I put maybe on the group event.

message 14: by dely (new)

dely | 5214 comments I skip this challenge. I haven't counted the pages I have read since yesterday.

message 15: by amber (new)

amber (thelittlematchgirl) | 371 comments dely wrote: "I skip this challenge. I haven't counted the pages I have read since yesterday."

I believe the idea is to start in May and even if they start in April next weekend is the last weekend of the month.

You are correct, Amber. We are starting to May.

Really? If it's this way then I misunderstood.

message 18: by Beth (last edited Apr 19, 2014 03:35PM) (new)

Beth | 508 comments I can see why you misunderstood - the original post says this:

We will do the read-a-thon on the last weekend of each month - if we achieve our goal of pages read, we will up the challenge the following month:)

So that would mean we do this next weekend

message 19: by amber (new)

amber (thelittlematchgirl) | 371 comments I had just read the event invite when I posted. I hadn't read the first message in this thread in a while. Plus this weekend isn't the last weekend of April next weekend is, so either way you wouldn't need your pages from yesterday dely. :)

message 20: by dely (new)

dely | 5214 comments I think I haven't read it carefully or I was sure this was the last week-end of April!

message 21: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments Sorry everyone for any confusion. The original post was copied from another group that I am in. In that group, we are starting from the last weekend in April.

I will discuss with the Mods and see when we shall start and let you all know in the next couple of days.

amber (thelittlematchgirl) | 371 comments dely wrote: "I think I haven't read it carefully or I was sure this was the last week-end of April!"

That happens to me all the time! The only reason next weekend being the last one in April is stuck in my head is because I have a play reading to go to that Saturday.

Exactly when are we starting?
I thought tomorrow - friday 2 may - at 12.00. But let's wait for Bette to set things going ...

Laura, in my other group, we only do the readathon on last weekend of the month. Do you want to do it each weekend?

message 28: by LauraT (new)

LauraT (laurata) | 14366 comments Mod
No no let's do it how is settled somewhere, at least at the beginning to see how it goes on ...
Remind us though some days before what we have to do ...

message 29: by Alannah (new)

Alannah Clarke (alannahclarke) | 14716 comments Mod
I forgot about this what with all my deadlines coming up so soon. But I think each weekend is too much unless some members want to get together in smaller groups and do it more often?

message 30: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Great idea Bette. Count me in :)

message 31: by LauraT (new)

LauraT (laurata) | 14366 comments Mod
Yes Alannah: definitly all week ends would be a bit too much for almost all of us!

Thanks for the reminder! So it runs from Friday noon until Sunday midnight?

message 34: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ So we can record pages from books we are already reading? Or does it have to be new books just started for this?

Markie | 44 comments Where do post our pages?

message 38: by Alannah (new)

Alannah Clarke (alannahclarke) | 14716 comments Mod
Maybe it's a good idea to give this its own topic like the 2014 reads and the 2014 challenges.

message 39: by Alannah (new)

Alannah Clarke (alannahclarke) | 14716 comments Mod
Then we can post our own threads. What do you think?

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

This is a bad weekend for me as I'm working 10-22.30 Saturday and Sunday so I won't be contributing much. Enjoy your reads!

message 41: by LauraT (new)

LauraT (laurata) | 14366 comments Mod
From Friday 12.00 to sunday midnight?
I have to remember: since I'm in the habit of reading more than one book at a time I'll have to go around with a notebook!!!

message 42: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments I think it would be easier to have one thread and everyone adds their pages to the same thread, then all the information is together.

message 43: by LauraT (new)

Bette: are you going to think about it?

Shirley, I have re-named this thread to May Read-a-thon.

So this is the thread where you post your pages, either at the end of each day or simply as a total for the weekend.

message 45: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments We count our pages from Friday 12am (Thursday midnight) till Sunday 12pm (midnight)

How are we counting the pages of ebbok? Shall we go with the counting of the ereader?

Leslie | 16369 comments For audiobooks, you can also use time to come up with a percentage and then calculate number of pages the same way as for an ebook.

My totals may be low (for me) as I had forgotten that this is Memorial Day weekend here in the States... my brother and his family are coming to visit.
