Now, even though this club is about fantasy, we do talk about any fiction and sci-fi. I feel like The Hunger Games is sci-fi, so, let's talk about it. Just to keep in mind, this topic is ONLY about the first book in the trilogy. There are other topics about the other books.
SPOILERS BELOW.
I really loved this book because it was the first book I had ever read that had a dystopian setting, so I was completely enthralled during the first few pages before the Hunger Games actually begun because the setting and the inventions were just so interesting. I knew nothing about the book when I first read it. I didn't read the summary or know anything about the plot, so I was expecting that Katniss would be picked. When she volunteered for her sister, I was just so surprised. It really showed how much Katniss loved her sister and helped me understand her character better. The Hunger Games were awesome, too. I mean, they were sad. Children fighting to the death is generally a topic that's not so fun, but it was pretty entertaining to read. I have a habit of not thinking so much when I read, so the author always manages to surprise me with every thing that they write, and I love it.
