Finished Grave Witch (Alex Craft, #1) by Kalayna Price and started Grave Dance (Alex Craft, #2) by Kalayna Price (almost done).
Not really overly impressed with the series though the second book is a bit better than the first for me. I feel like there is a lot of deja-vu crossover from other series and the main character a bit immature how she deals with others and asks for help. And then the love triangle... sigh. Interesting world and cast of characters but I see a lot of Cassie Palmer (ghost side kick), October Daye (halfling fae), and others in it but yet haven't connected to the main character as much. (view spoiler) So I do like some of the consequences.

Finished Grave Dance (Alex Craft, #2) by Kalayna Price , which was better than the first but doesn't look like a favorite series for me. I'll listen to the next 2 since I have a challenge it fits into.

Started back up on Rivers of London (Peter Grant, #1) by Ben Aaronovitch aka in the US Midnight Riot (Peter Grant, #1) by Ben Aaronovitch as it is a BOM in another group and I've been meaning to read it forever. About 1/4 of the way through and really enjoying it greatly. Has some great humor and off the wall one liners. It is really heading for a recommend pile if it continues this good.

Just finished Grave Memory (Alex Craft, #3) by Kalayna Price and it was the first of the series that I really liked. I would've stopped the series except it is on a challenge I'm signed up for. I'm glad I didn't as Grave Memories was great. I really love Death and so dislike Falin. I've gone on to the last. Grave Visions (Alex Craft, #4) by Kalayna Price

I finished Midnight Riot (Peter Grant, #1) by Ben Aaronovitch Rivers of London (Peter Grant, #1) by Ben Aaronovitch final and it was very fun. A great read. Plan to go on with that one too.

Lindsey (ucdlindsey) Just finished Grave Surprise (Harper Connelly, #2) by Charlaine Harris which I enjoyed. Waiting for Marked in Flesh (The Others, #4) by Anne Bishop and Fire Touched (Mercy Thompson, #9) by Patricia Briggs which should both arrive tomorrow.

Marked in Flesh (The Others, #4) by Anne Bishop arrived so I'll be joining you reading that though I am in the middle of Grave Visions (Alex Craft, #4) by Kalayna Price . I may end up switching just because I cannot wait. Want to see what next will happen in Meg's world.

I'm on number #8 of Chicagoland Vampires but haven't had a push to get back to it for a couple of years. I really liked it but it kind of got push aside waiting for a few books and then I didn't get back to it.

Me too. Fire Touched (Mercy Thompson, #9) by Patricia Briggs at the end and really, really liked it so far.

Just finished and loved it. This is why Mercy has been and remains on the top of my UF list.

i have not been able to get my hot little hands on it yet..... i think i might have to import the book from overseas. yes i am getting impatient and i want to read it even more now!

message 61: by Amyiw, Challenges Moderator (new)

Amyiw | 1066 comments Mod
I'll be hoping that you get your hands on it soon, though really the sooner you read it the longer you will have to wait for the next one. :-) I'm back in wait mode unless I do a re-read... again, which might happen.

So I really didn't have an immediate book that I wanted to start so finally got to another Linnea Sinclair book.
An Accidental Goddess by Linnea Sinclair , I'm almost 1/2 way into it (over 1/3) and am really liking it.

OK, loved An Accidental Goddess, great scifi romance, with a very strong scifi plot.

Finished Grave Visions the latest of Alex Craft and it didn't get me like Grave Memories, with the wait, I may ended up dropping the series.

Fated (Alex Verus, #1) by Benedict Jacka currently reading and it might become another favorite. I asked for male protagonist recommends several months ago and finally found a couple I love. This and the Peter Grant series.

I started two series that have been on my TBR for a while, both PNR on the erotic side.
Raphael/Parish (Bayou Heat, #1-2) by Alexandra Ivy & Samson's Lovely Mortal (Scanguards Vampires, #1) by Tina Folsom

They are both fluffy quick reads and good for me to clear the palate after too many serious reads.

Bayou Heat (Raphael/Parish) are two short romances with a over arc plot that goes on through several books. They are definitely novella short. I'm up to Vol 4, Sebastian/Aristide

Sangard Vampires (Samson's Lovely Mortal) are right above a novella length at above 200 pages, but yet short for the novel and a quick read with a plot in the background causing distrust between the couple. I'm on book 3, Gabriel's Mate

So I was on a reading shut down while on vacation. Came back and read some erotic vampire and shifter fluff then got back to a series that I read the first last month. I really like the first so am currently 2/3 through the second.

One Good Dragon Deserves Another (Heartstrikers, #2) by Rachel Aaron

I was a little hesitant on reading it as the first book was 283 pages (paperback) long and the second is 486 pages. Sometimes the extra pages are just filler and over kill, that is not the case here. This second one is just as good as the first but it has more going on and more complications. It might not have much romance but it is a great straight UF in an alternate reality and has a great take on dragons and spirits. The characters (main and side characters) are really fun. Written 3rd person multiple POVs.

Read the new series from Faith Hunter
Blood of the Earth (Soulwood, #1) by Faith Hunter
This is what UF is supposed to be. Original with interesting characters that learn to interact with one another even with big quirks that make them a little strange. The main character is not you normal KickA@@ female that so many new UF series are trying to copy from the best (like Yellowrock) yet don't quite make it. No this MC is an isolated, brainwashed (though she is learning), introvert, who learns to work with a quirky team to investigate what is happen or if, with her former polygamous church cult, with which she still has connections through her family. It is original with a great plot and full round support characters. I wish the next few were already written.

I'm only up to book 4 in Yellowrock but you don't have to read that one first. In fact, if you want a different female protagonist, I would go directly to this one.

Just finished Wild Embrace (Psy-Changeling, #15.5) by Nalini Singh and for a favorite author... I am disappointed. It was good but I expect a favorite or really good read from this series and the last two books have just been.. good. **sigh** In fact one of the novellas of this compilation was, dare I say, just OK. The plot lines were too predictable and "secrets" held to the end for suspense just disappointing.

Ye I knw It would be awesome as a TV show since movie can't do the books justice so I just hope the show doesn't deviate from the series if it gets made ever..I so always wished that Heath got over Zo coz he still would have been alive. But I never got why PC chose to kill him ;-; he could have been her true love consort.

So many YA books get made into movies/series, too many. Although they might be good books, they just don't do as well in film/screen plays. I think the adult books do better like, Sookie, Outlander, then again even they can flop too. The exception to the movies was Hunger Games. Not my favorite but did really well.

Flops I can think of
Stardust
The Golden Compass
Inkheart
The Spiderwick Chronicles
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Percy Jackson (making sequels so must be good enough)
Eragon
The Maze Runner
Divergent (OK I think this did alright too)

I guess Narnia did pretty well at the box office but the ratings aren't great.
They are all wanting to find the next Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. I guess Hunger Games did that.

I don't know, I think I would rather read the book almost always. Then again, I would probably rather the movie for most of YA just so 2 hours is all it takes.

OMG you mentioned the worst movie translation of all time.... eragon. the movie made no sense... it might have been halfway decent if the deleted extra scenes were added. but even then it would have been horrible.

Amy the hunger games gave people hope that yes it could be done... quite decently too.

Ya is such a strange thing to try and put across in film /tv
how do they portray what is going on in the persons mind, the angst they are feeling. that sort of stuff.

i am not a massive fan of YA books either but i do read them to give them a go. and to say "yep i have read it(didn't like it) but i still read it".

Amy how are you finding the nikki glass series... i had to abandon the jane yellowrock series as i was waiting for the next book to come out and then i found more books to read. so it isn't completely abandoned at least.

edit: i'm such an idiot i'm getting my series all mixed up..... i need a nap!

Omg The Hunger Games ending Movie sucked and No The Maze Runner movies did well...many people found them awesome (for me it was good but the book way better). I never understood wth they did to Inkheart! I mean the books were pretty cool and the movie blew my mind away in the bad way ;-; Wut about The Mortal Instrument movies! ( I never watched it....didn't have guts to do it so tell me how it was?) and ofc Vampire Academy movie did Great....It was pretty awesome and I am waiting for the next part ( is it by any chance out?)
Its obvious that the fantasy and all those mythical elements are hard to portray in movies and as you know The Percy Jackson and Sea of Monster movie was a big disappoinment as they made cuts in it so such things hurt us fans ;-; but all in all it sucks so much :/ So I hope they make TV series and do books justice. It can have many seasons to portray stuff accurately.
