Fran | 69 comments I joined this group in late July and didn't have the time to do a classic challenge but I enjoyed watching everyone doing their challenges so this year I thought I would join in. It is a special year for me and there will be lots of challenges to get through, not just of the reading sort. So I'm happy to join everyone in this challenge.

Nice selections, I reread Huck Finn a couple of years ago, its great. I'm thinking about reading Franklin's autobiography this year for Bingo, haven't decided. I do hope you enjoy the challenge.

Fran | 69 comments I did some changes to message 2 above. I received some new books for Christmas and decided to do some children's classic and not to do the rereads I had originally posted. So I added The Princess Bride, A Wrinkle in Time and The Wizard of Oz. I still might read Gone with the Wind, Katherine and The Thorn Birds because all of them could be used in the Bingo Challenge but I would prefer a physical copy to the kindle copy that I own.

Only two more days to start the reading challenge!! I can't wait!!!

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1685 comments I borrowed eAudio of "Wizard of Oz" this year for bingo that I played with this group and was surprised that none other than Brooke Shields was the reader. Ha

Haha!!! I got a cheap copy of "Wizard of Oz" from Audible. Anne Hathaway is the narrator. I wonder if she'll break out in song during the reading?? Maybe "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"?

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1685 comments It looks as if a lot of celebrities are reading audio books!

Powder River Rose (powderriverrose) | 148 comments We will be reading quite a few of the same books this year. I see you have A Wrinkle in Time, I'm waiting on book 4 in the library queue. There are three different narrators for the series, books 1 & 3 have the same narrator, book 2 is different and books 4&5 share the third. The changes so far haven't made any real difference and I hope that continues with the last two. Enjoy.

Fran | 69 comments Updated Message 2 above to show the books that I read in January.

The Hobbit I gave 5/5 stars. I can't wait to read The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I also read The Iliad which I gave 4/5 stars. It would have liked to give it 3.5 stars but can't figure how to do that. The Odyssey was a much better read and I gave it a solid 4/5 stars.

I'm currently reading Mansfield Park from the list above. About 25% in and okay so far but I enjoyed Persuasion a lot more at this point. It might be that also reading Middlemarch at the same time and its a little bit too similar. I should break the reading up with something else. The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin from my list or The Diary of Anne Frank.

Fran | 69 comments I completed this challenge last week but I'm finally getting around to posting it. There was some really great reads. Of course, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice and Mansfield Park I really enjoyed. I thought The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was absolutely hilarious. My absolute favorites were The Hobbit and A Game of Thrones.

My ratings are as follows:
5/5 stars
Macbeth
The Hobbit
A Game of Thrones

4/5 stars
Sense and Sensibility
Pride and Prejudice
Mansfield Park
A Wrinkle in Time
The Iliad
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
Throne of Glass

3/5 stars
The Wizard of Oz It's not because I didn't like the book but kept on comparing it to the movie and there is no comparison.

Did Not Finish
The Princess Bride I tried to read this while recovering from surgery but the pain killers kept on knocking me out and I never got back to it.

Other Additions
I don't know if this is okay or not but I added some others books, well because I wanted too!!

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer I couldn't read Huck Finn without reading Tom Sawyer too! 4/5 stars
Gone with the Wind 5/5 stars I read this while recovering from surgery. My kindle, the hardback and audio versions were always close at hand. I originally read this the summer I was 16 and I read twice in a week. This time it took me more than six weeks to get through it once. I'm not blaming age but the pain meds!!

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1685 comments Fran,

It's nice to see JAs "Mansfield Park" get some love from you.

Some of the "Janites" in the JA group have commented that this one is not much liked by readers who are not JA "super fans."
