You can count books just once for the same challenge, so just one list. You can count books across different challenges though.

I have the same issue. I picked 8 for each of my lists, but I knew there would be a lot of overlap. I cut my goal to 20. We do not encourage using the same book twice in the same challenge, but you can use the same book in multiple challenges.

I ask since some of the lists I'm looking at have hundreds of books, and I'm reading books and then checking to see if they're on the lists for the time being as opposed to picking directly from them.

I type in a search for the book and on the book's page it lists the listopias it is on.
