I hope you guys love this as much as I do. Be prepared for depravity at its finest.

Natalie Carey (janeefficiency) | 43 comments I'm about to get started with this one. I'll be working on The Restorer and Covenant this week (as well as The Anubis Gates for a Sci-Fi book club I'm in).

I have to say I'm really excited about it with your praises Trinity!

I truly love all of her works... I don't know what that says about me ;)

Oh, thanks for the reminder. Gotta get this. I've almost read this a half a dozen times. About time I do.
Btw.. Your sci fi selection sounds really good.

Yeah I'm glad it won for this month - it's been on my list for a while. ^.^

Natalie Carey (janeefficiency) | 43 comments I started this last night (like 10 pages in). Hopefully I'll make a large dent, if not finish it, this weekend since it's not too long. I'm excited!

Yay!!

Natalie Carey (janeefficiency) | 43 comments This is going to get very spoilery for those who haven't finished the book!

I finally finished it! Took longer than I wanted, but it was really good! I'm so excited to see where the next 2 go! I loved how strong and logical Mary was throughout, but especially when she shoots Arkady. The plot wasn't what I was expecting, but it sets up the story of the family, especially their family as vampires, really well. I thought the introduction of the stranger at the end was a little odd at first, but I really liked how it went and am looking forward to seeing how that plays out, and what Arkady does about Mary and his son, and what Vlad does next. ^.^

I'm so glad we read this!

Natalie Carey (janeefficiency) | 43 comments Oh, and I really liked the epistolary way of writing. That's also used in Maplecroft, and of course Dracula, and I've really enjoyed it every time.

Although, while reading this, I didn't realize it (and the series as a whole) was meant to be a prequel to Dracula. So neat!!

Yay! I am so glad you liked it. It seemed a bit out there for what our group usually picks but it is one of my all time favorites.

I really enjoyed this first book. The trilogy has a nice story overall, filled with tension and chaos as Arkady grows on knowledge about Vlad's intentions. It's written as a dairy, from character's own perspectives; same style as Dracula, it was intense and entertaining. It's a perfect example of a classic vampire story, historical and gothic.

Oh yay! It's Nina ! Good to hear from you! I got the book a little while ago and I had read the preview and liked how it flowed.

So... if one reads the first, should one just plan to read all three?

Trinity | 803 comments Mod
I recommend doing so! These are some of my favorite novels. Don't know what that says about me, LOL. Not for the faint of heart, as I've said before.

Hi @Shaina! ♥ I agree with @Trinity. The story is pleasing; I felt like wanting to know more, since it's told via letters. Letters hold so many secrets! Points of view long buried and intentions uncovered.
