Good luck with your challenge!

Didn't really follow through with the "light-hearted" theme. Finished book four last night, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguru and loved it. 4 stars. It was heartbreaking, but at the same time so interesting and captivating. I found this dystopian scenario really plausible for our time and age and I loved how Ishiguru played with the characters innocence. You felt like while the went through it, they never even really knew what was happening. Something that stayed with me and for me, sums the whole book up pretty neatly, is the last scene in the movie adaption. "What I'm not sure about, is if our lives have been so different from the lives of the people we save. We all complete. Maybe none of us really understand what we've lived through, or, feel we've had enough time."

Book 10 out of 60 was The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. When I had a look through the reviews, I saw that this book is quite controversially discussed. I personally did like this book. Sure, it's a pretty glossed over and simplified summary of the history of Afghanistan but I actually really enjoyed learning a little bit more about the Afghan culture and the way the country used to be. People blame this book as being written for Westerners who suddenly want to feign interest in Afghanistan and too Americanised. I think it's good that people read at least something about this country. Afghanistan has been a war zone all my life and it has been little more in my head before I read this book. I am planning on picking up "A Thousand Splendid Suns" soon.
Book 11 out of 60 was Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. This is practically a Drarry fanfic in bookform and I enjoyed myself so much. Sure, this is heavily influenced by Harry Potter but I ain't even mad. The story had its own magic too it and gave me the Potter feels while being unique. Loved it. I don't even care that Rowell probably used all our fandom feels to make us like this book.

I really wish I'd read Holes a couple of years ago, I think I would have absolutely adored it. But it's still a good book.
The 5th Wave was amazing but I think I'll stay way away from the movie. Looks like a book ruiner to me.
How is your reading year going? :)

Thank you, Cassandra. I am really happy about how good it has been going so far :)

I don't have a lot of time to myself to read so decided to set myself a goal of 36 this year and aim for 3 a month :)

Same with me, I am really excited that this year I actually have a whole year to complete my goal and I am right on track. 36 books sounds like a great goal!

Yeah, same :D She really captured all the fangirl feels really well. I know right? Especially when you keep on buying new books, so the stacks are increasing instead of decreasing. I blame booktube :D

Books 16 and 17 were Wolf Brother and Spirit Walker by Michelle Paver. Those are book 1 and 2 in the "Chronicles of Ancient Darkness" series. It's a bit odd how I found this series. I was having a look through one of the shelves at work and someone left those two books there. I started flicking through them and was instantly hooked! I've never heard of this series before, but it has really high ratings and it's just fantastic! It's set in the Neolithic Age and follows the main character Torak on his adventures. There's adventure and mystery and friendship and it shows how people lived back then, which I find really interesting. I love Pavers writing style and all in all I am just so glad that I discovered her books. Also, the audio book is narrated by Ian McKellen, if you're not sold yet.
When I had a look online I realised that it actually was a series of 6 books. I devoured the first two in less than a week and have already gone out to hunt for the rest of the books. I got really lucky and found all of them, but the 5th book in a charity shop. So I can read on, yay :)

I am 30 % done with my challenge and it feels so good. I am 5 books ahead of schedule, so even if a reading slump hits me or I want to read a really long book, I'll be fine :)

Book 20 was Greek Mythology by Sofia Souli. This was a summary of the most well known stories of Greek Mythology and it was really interesting. I read the Percy Jackson series last year and I recognised so many stories and characters from the books :D The thing that really annoyed me though was the sloppy translation. There were so many typos and misspelled words. I hope they can fix that for future editions :)
6 books ahead of schedule, boom baby :D

I hope you keep up your challenge, and I am totally stealing some books off your list.
Cheers.

Really? That's so funny :D Well enjoy, because I really had a good reading month in January :) I am hoping to keep up my challenge as well and feel free to steal all the books you want :)

Yeah, I think it's so interesting. But then people have such varying opinions about them and I think that's even more interesting.

It sounds like I should read Carry On too if it'll give me the Potter feels

It sounds like I should rea..."
Thank you, yeah it's going pretty great. I hope you love Fangirl, it was such a feel good book for me :)

It was just really frustrating, because my reading year had been going really good until then :D Thank you, I only have one more book left though :/

The Prisoner and One Shot Kill by Robert Muchamore are book 5 and 6 in the Henderson's Boys series. What can I say, still a guilty pleasure but honestly these books are like crack to me. A WWII setting paired with kids doing espionage work, who could resist? Sadly there's only one more book left in this series :/ I am hoping to get my hands on Scorched Earth this month aswell :D
I also read Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson. Now, I've read quite a few books about eating disorders but none of them showed the grueling reality of the illness quite like this one. Wintergirls doesn't glamourise the protagonists anorexia but shows the ugly truth, all the while preserving a beautiful writing style and a hopeful ending. I devoured it in a day.
Lastly, I finished The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I actually read this out loud to people at my work over the course of two weeks or so and I felt like that was a very nice way to explore the wonders of Oz :)

I'm not going to go into detail about all the books I read since my last post, but my favourites have been The Time In Between by Nancy Tucker, Wonder by R.J Palacio, Scarlet by Marissa Meyer and the Hogwarts library (HP companion books)
I hope to keep you updated for the rest of my reading challenge ;)
