6. The Ruins by Scott Smith 5* 6/3
7. The Bottoms by Joe Lansdale 5* 7/24

There are only seven I have not read that I also already own. (No book buying goal for 2016).

Boy's Life by Robert McCammon (dnf'd early 2015)
The Croning by Laird Barron
The Devil in Gray by Graham Masterton
Hell House by Richard Matheson
I Am Legend by Richard Matheson
Kin by Kealan Patrick Burke
Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin

I will focus on these this year. There are some on the list that I'd love to re-read because I do own them and feel a pull to revisit, but I have too many unread books on my shelves. (No re-reads goal for 2016 also.)

If anyone is interested in doing a buddy read for any of these, I'm down.

THE CRONING is one that I particularly want to read, but have to wait several weeks to start, at least.

I'm usually quite flexible on my reading schedule and I often read multiple books at once; so, I'm pretty sure it won't be any trouble to just start up whenever. Let me know.

That sounds familiar--I always have at least 2 books and an anthology going at a time. I only take time out for BETA reads. I have a few group reads coming up soon that I'm really looking forward to, so the first week or two of January will be reserved for those. (I DO have The Croning, however, and have been looking for an "excuse" to bump it up in the pile. ;) ).

Bella | 4 comments I'd love to do this challenge. I was wanting to add some different areas to my reading this year (last year was really heavy on the apocalyptic side and I'm in the "waiting for the next book in the series phase"), so this would be perfect! I looked at the list and was a bit embarrassed by how many books I hadn't read, but had seen the movie version.

Books I've read:
It - Stephen King
Pet Sematary - Stephen King
The Mist - Stephen King
The Vampire Lestat - Anne Rice

I'm going to go for 13 books for the challenge, but I will have to do library and inexpensive as I have a huge move coming up this year, so book funds are very little. I will be picking from the following 36.

Want to Read:
Dead of Night - Jonathan Maberry
Black House - Stephen King
We Have Always Lived In The Castle - Shirley Jackson
Watchers - Dean Koontz
The Funhouse - Dean Koontz
Twilight Eyes - Dean Koontz
City of the Dead - Brian Keene
The Travelling Vampire Show - Richard Laymon
Fevre Dream - George R.R. Martin
Strangers - Dean Koontz
When We Join Jesus in Hell - Lee Thompson
The Bleeding Season - Greg Gifune
Books of Blood - Clive Barker
Carrion Comfort - Dan Simmons
Cruelty - Edward Lorn
Dead Sea - Tim Curran
Endless Night - Richard Laymon
The Girl Next Door - Jack Ketchum
Hater - David Moody
Horowitz Horror - Anthony Horowitz
In The Dark - Richard Laymon

Seed - Ania Ahlborn
Something Wicked This Way Comes - Ray Bradbury

Strangers - Michaelbrent Collings
The Summer I Died - Ryan C. Thomas
Summer of Night - Dan Simmons
Sunblind - Michael McBride
Swan Song - Robert McCammon
Sweetheart, Sweetheart - Bernard Taylor
That Which Should Not Be - Brett J. Talley
Ugly As Sin - James Newman
Usher's Passing - Robert McCammon

Natalie Carey (janeefficiency) I'm going to go for 5 this year, as I didn't finish my goal of 13 last year, and a couple of the ones I'm selecting are on the chunky side (one of which is one from last year's list that I didn't get around to)....

1. Imajica by Clive Barker
2. The Stand by Stephen King
3. Swan Song by Robert McCammon
4. Ghost Story by Peter Straub
5. The Other by Thomas Tryon

Edit: challenge will be for 6 books, as the edition(s) of Imajica is the reprint in two volumes - Imajica: The Fifth Dominion and Imajica: The Reconciliation.

Julie (chthonian) Saving my spot -- I'm aiming for 8 books, like last year. [EDIT: Now that we're in November, I'm tweaking my selections slightly in the hopes of finishing this under the wire!]

1. Revenge - Yoko Ogawa ★★★★☆
2. N0S4A2 - Joe Hill ★★★★☆
3. Hell House - Richard Matheson ★★☆☆☆
4. Passenger - Ronald Malfi ★★★★☆
5. The Mist - Stephen King ★★★★☆
-- The Vampire Lestat - Anne Rice - I read Interview with the Vampire in the hopes that I could get around to this, but it's just going to take too darn long.
6. Pet Sematary - Stephen King ★★★★★
7. Seed - Ania Ahlborn ★★★☆☆
8. Something Wicked This Way Comes - Ray Bradbury ★★★★☆

8/8 done as of December 9th!
Average rating: 3.75

Jay (okay_jay) | 219 comments Have read 16 previously. Have already read one this year, The Mist, and my goal is 15. Have changed my total book goal for the year to 75. Hoo boy.

Update (1/29): After reading The Haunting of Hill House, now at 2/15. 9/75 total. Good start?

Update (3/30): With The Terror, have now read 3/15. Need to get in gear, but my total books are at 26/75, which is much better.

You have a fine list. I'm always pleased to read all these lists from members of HA because I learn about so many titles that I haven't heard about before. I've only read 2 from your list: Exorcist Road and Sunblind. Both are gripping reads.

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Thanks, Anthony! I am definitely looking forward to them then. I've read so many great books from suggestions here over the years. HA is a valuable resource for horror fans, that is for sure.

Sunblind was the best book I read in 2014, and one of the best things Michael McBride has written (and that is saying something). Enjoy!

Exorcist Road is on my list this year, and if I enjoy it half as much as I enjoyed Wolf Land, which I just finished, it'll be a hit! :-)

This may be the next horror one I read. It looks good. Thanks.

SUNBLIND was my number 1 read last year, as well--of over 225 books/anthologies. :)
