Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Have a look in the word search below. I want you to note the first THREE (3) words you can find. These are your challenge words. This month you are going to read a book that has one of these three words in the title or in the author's name.

 photo Word search_zpsjnd6lipy.jpg
If the image is too small for you, click on it and it will take you to photobucket where you can see it bigger. Or zooming on your browser window should work too.

In your post below, SPOILER your three words eg (view spoiler) so you are going into the word search with a blank slate. To spoiler like above, type < spoiler>like this so we can't see them< /spoiler> (without the spaces). Then tell us the book you decide to read. There are 60 words in there (that I've put in, I posted this and found 2 more randomly generated that I didn't add), so we should all be able to find 3.

In the reporting thread, I want you to tell us when you're done, and what you think of it.

Clarifications:
Not the subtitle or series title, the main title.
No compound words eg if the word is BLUE, you can't have bluebottle.
Plurals will count. So if the word is BEE and you can read The Bees. If it's BUTTERFLY and you can read In the Time of the Butterflies.

General Rules:
1. The book may be in any format - paperback, ebook, audiobook.
2. The book may be in any genre.
3. The book may NOT be combined with the Year Long Geocaching Challenge.
4. The book must be read between January 1 to January 31 (based on your own time zone).
5. The challenge is for one book. You may read more books if you chose, but only the highest scoring book will apply.
6. The book must be 175 pages or more determined by the issue you read. If reading eBook or audiobook page numbers will be determined by the issue that comes up on a Goodreads search.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Rusalka, may we use the plural form of the word? For example, may we use apricots if we found the word apricot in the grid above? (I am assuming the word apricot isn't up there!)

message 7: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Love it! I'm in bed and woke up only minutes ago, but with my slightly hazy head I found (view spoiler). I'm sure I have no problems finding a book!

I know, I did it on my kindle and you can not check there if your html is correct, I thought it was wrong. Had to boot up the laptop. Sorry about that. I really don't like the kindle app, it is only good for checking updates.

Stephanie This looks like fun!
My 3 words : (view spoiler)

Off to gopher :)

EDIT

I can't believe none of my words were in any of my lists of to be read or owned books! I finally found a book that is available at my library though :)

I'm going with (view spoiler)

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments No worries Kelly B. All done now. I have the kindle app but i only use it for checking posts and basic commenting but I'll use the Silk web browser to access the GR website for anything else more complicated.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11268 comments Now, I'm reading all the spoilers to find great books to add to my TBR! That's what is about, right? In each monthly challenge we kill one of our TBR, and add around 8 or 12. Did I get it right?

message 22: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Pretty much. ;)

message 24: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19182 comments This sounds so fun! I'm on the app, so I can't see the word search, but I'll be choosing my words as soon as I can get on line again.

Janice (jamasc) | 59953 comments Of the three words I picked (msg 3), I decided to go with (view spoiler)

Sarah, we could buddy read it.

message 26: by Cherie (last edited Dec 28, 2015 01:54PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments What I dislike about the mobile apps is that I cannot read spoilers.

With Sandra's statistics in mind though - keep putting your books into spoilers too, and I will not be tempted to add eight books to my already full TBR list. he he he

None of my words yielded one single title from ANY of the books I already own. Bummer! One of my words had no hits on my TBR list, nor anything I was remotely tempted to want to read. I was about ready to beg a second chance for some new words when I found a title that jumped out of my TBR list and started flashing neon lights and begging to be read. So awesome when that happens!

edited: I updated my first post with the book title I will be reading.

Janice (jamasc) | 59953 comments Sounds like a Christmas miracle, Cherie - flashing neon lights! Woot! I'm dying to know what you're going to read. Hate hate the mobile app.

Sarah, we could buddy read it."

That would be cool. That would mean three buddy reads I'll be participating in for January. I think this will likely be the first book i read of the year. That way i'll definitely complete the challenge.

message 29: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Dec 26, 2015 08:20AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I am partial to a couple more words if no other option but has to be a really good reason. As I have worked out there are now at least 70 words in the search, there should be something very quickly for everyone.

I am so interested to see what words people find first though.

message 30: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19182 comments @ Cherie - I agree. Not being able to read spoilers is one of the things I don't like about the app. Also, not being able to reply to specific comments and not being able to check on polls without a link posted. I use the app a lot though. I am constantly checking notifications. Currently, I am in a location with very patchy internet service, so I've been grateful whatever access the app can give me.

message 36: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Thanks Janice. Looking forward to this one. Although it's another series ;-)

message 37: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59953 comments I know! Grrrr - Audiobooks just announced their 2-for-1 credit sale and I have 2 firsts in a series books I want to get. I just have to admit that I'm irrevocably lost in serial hell.

message 38: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19182 comments So, I intentionally looked in a different area than I usually do, just to see if I could get some different words than what's been posted so far. My first three words were (view spoiler). After looking at other people's words, there are still some words in common. :) So, off to gopher a bit.

There were two Books #5 in series that I've just read the first book. I'd kind of like to read books 2-4 before I buy book 5. There's no rhyme or reason, it seems.

I always think that's a bit strange when they have random books from the middle of a series. They're probably the slower sellers.
