J.D. Robb discussion

We all seem to agree we’d like to track character development during our buddy read of the In Death Series. While we’ll all be discussing many of the characters together each month, we thought it would be fun to give buddy read participants the opportunity to choose one or two specific characters (other than Eve & Roarke) they’d like to track and report on during our monthly discussions throughout the series. Hopefully, this will enhance the reading experience for all participants, affording us a greater depth of understanding of certain characters and their contribution to the series. It is not a requirement of joining our buddy read, but rather an opportunity to explore if you so desire.

If you would like to be a Character Tracker Reporter, choose 1 or 2 characters to follow by indicating their names in a post in this thread. Plan on making note of your character’s introduction into the series, description, relationships, development, impact on other characters/cases/books/series and other relevant information as you read and then share it during our buddy read discussions. If you see that more than 3 or 4 people have signed up for a character, please consider choosing someone else so we can cover as many characters as possible.

Again, we’ll all be sharing our thoughts and contributing to the discussion of all characters during the course of our buddy reads. Choosing one or two characters to follow and report on is not mandatory for joining our buddy reads. It’s simply a choice.

We'll start by choosing from these characters and will add to the list as we proceed through the series. Let's have fun with it!

I plan to track almost everyone! LOL! But I will choose Summerset as a character that I really want to keep a close eye on since I've always had a soft spot for him. Peabody is also one of my favorites so I may take her on also. And gosh - when I look down the list, there are so many I want to track (& will). I also want to take a close look at the introduction (whether alive or just through references) & influences of Richard Troy, Patrick Roarke, & Stella. And then, I'd love to do Morris or Trueheart or Trina...oh dear, I have a problem!! :)

Okay. This was hard since I am afraid I will forget later on...but my choices are Crack and Troy. Now one question...I should discuss it each month (if there is character development) right?

Right, Dawn. If they make an appearance in the ID book we're reading that month, then you'll share your thoughts about them, their development, actions, significance, etc. (whatever you'd like to share). No pressure...just sharing your thoughts.

I like authority so I will track Whitney --- and his wife Anna because she is usually included via him. And even though he isn't on the list up there I'll also throw in Tibble.

If no one minds, I'll track Dickie and Caro... I would like to track Dickie's bribes.

Great idea, I'd really like to know just how much he is bribed. And with what.

Caro is one of my favorites, I wish we could see her more.

How are we going to track our characters? A message for each, a thread for each, some type of shared document? I've never done anything like this so I'm unsure of what to do....

Just plan to share any info you'd like about your characters (or any of the characters) during our buddy read discussions in the br thread. It would be great to hear about their intro into the series, description, relationship/s, development, and how they influence other characters, the book, and/or series. And then - do the same for those characters in each buddy read thread of any of the books that they appear in. Just note that you are sharing info on the characters that you picked.

LOL! It's true...I get excited about all the characters! I think they all play an important role in the series. I want them all! haha

I missed this tread so I'm late to the party. Can I just mention that some of those on the list I don't know?! Is that bad?
Anyhoo. I think I'd want to track Mavis and Eve's friendship. I also tempted to say I want to follow inconsistencies of characters. But I know myself I'll miss one and I'll be shot by the In Death police. Lol.

No you won't, Michelle. Eve & I will protect you! lol

Lmao...no In Death police will persecute you Michelle. There are too many to catch them all. I was just discussing this the other day. My sister-in-law is a author and said she misses the minutiae of her characters. I reminded her that Nora Roberts has paid professionals who miss some pretty big things. Am looking forward to the ones you will catch.

So I only noticed two changes. Now the question is that according to the rules we can only talk bout the current books or books previous to the current., do I mention it or not.

I think we are to just focus on the current book, so maybe take notes on future books?

What I thought as well. Besides it would be interesting t see when exactly it changes to what we know in the later part of the series.

I agree. I am excited about seeing it all progress as well.

That's right...we only know what we learn in NID right now. But that will quickly change as we proceed through more of the series.

Michelle - what you can do now is make note of the things that pop on your radar - maybe things that give you pause. You can talk about that info as soon as we go to a spoiler zone and then later on, you'll be able to compare it to what happens in later books.
