Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Thanks Cynthia. For some reason I forgot today was still August.

message 506: by Heather (new)

Heather | 384 comments I think these will be the last questions but we'll see!! Just want to make sure... for 15.10, can I use The Boy in the Striped Pajamas for the student part? It was listed in the post asking for books about students.

Also, and I'll ask in the other place, too, Cait, for 25.8, would House of Leaves work for the "thing" part with Leaves being the thing?

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments Cindy - For your task, the book cover actually shows Storm Front (2 words) but GR adds in paren that it's part of a series. Does the series section count in the word total?

Storm Front

Lori (batchelorxyz) | 218 comments Would Lady Knight by Tamora Pierce count for 10.7? Keladry is a wonderful heroine in my opinion.

Has there been an official ruling on the Jasper Fforde Thursday Next novels for 15.2? Because I would really like to read Lost in a Good Book for that task.

15.2 is the Alternative History task.

message 516: by Cindy AL (new)

Cindy AL (cangelmd) | 645 comments Tanja, I've tried to reply to your question 3 times, maybe this is the charm.
I think "The Dresden Files" may have been added in a later printing, anyway I think Storm Front is a two word title. I wouldn't count words following a colon (:), that are integral parts of the title, not just "A Novel"

Yes Lady Knight is fine and originally I had said the novels after The Eyre Affair would not count but I decided to go ahead and allow all of them for that task

It looks like the main character is Apache, so I would think that would work for the Native American task.

I love the Dresden Files series and have already read the first six in the series. When I first started into the series, I picked up a copy with a cover that was I think updated from the original artwork to correspond with the TV series. The way that cover reads makes it more obvious that the book's name is Storm Front and underneath it says: Book One of the Dresden Files. (This link shows that cover: http://www.jim-butcher.com/books/dres...). As you can see, the style is slightly different from this cover: Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher . As I looked around at some different book covers, it looks like there have been several other additions and some make it seem like the title of "Storm Front" is the second part of the title--do a search on Amazon with a search for the title and you'll see what I mean. Sorry if I rambled but I do agree with Cindy :)

Tanja, hope you decide to read the book(s). The TV series was pretty good, but the books are sooooo much better, in my opinion.

SusannaW (susannauk) | 6 comments Hi

I'm currently reading 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close' by Jonathan Safran Foer

I'm having trouble finding a category to put it in, tho'.. I thought (maybe I was dreaming...?!) that there was a category that a 9/11 type book might fit into...but I must be mistaken.

As it's told by a 9 year old by, would it fit the student category, maybe..?

You could pair it with a book by Nicole Krauss for 25.2, the related authors task.

What Katie said. Nicole Krauss's The History of Love A Novel was a wonderful book. She and Foer are married.

I say the Pentateuch is ok for 25.5 the Fortune Telling task. Lots of good prophesies--plus all that incest, murder, rape, & other good stuff.

You could read it for task 20.2 and read books beginning with C-D-E, D-E-F, or E-F-G.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments Cynthia, I need to reread Airhead by Meg Cabot before I read its sequel, and so I'm trying to fit it in. I don't want to give too much away about the plot, but the main character is in an accident, and essentially ends up in someone else's body via a brain transplant. Is that science-fictiony enough in your eyes to count for Task 15.4?

if not do you have a B and C book for the abc task
or under poetry rhyming with a poet book

I found it! In post 44, Cynthia approved behavioral science books like those written by Malcolm Gladwell. So, Traffic... should work. (That looks like a fascinating book, BTW.)

for task 5.1 (Our Children Are Our Future), would sister work? I was thinking of reading The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Thanks! =)
